Crittenden Compromise was an unsuccessful proposal created by Kentucky senator John.J. Crittenden on December 18th, 1860. It was the first proposal submitted to prevent the Civil War. This proposal was made for two reasons. The first reason is to avoid more secession by reaching a compromise. The second reason is to maintain the Southern slavery. This proposal is inspired by the six amendments to the constitution. The six of them are listed below: -----First, Slavery should not be allowed in the upcoming new territories. -----Second, congress was requested to abolish slavery in places under its jurisdiction within a slave state, such as a military post. -----Third, Congress could not prohibit slavery in D.C so long as it is existed
