As a result of rapid technological advancement, many organizations are demanded to develop and implement different projects towards the objectives of the organization. For these projects to be developed and implemented accordingly, the projects have to be divided into phases. There are four basic stages of project development life cycle. These are, initial phase, planning phase, execution phase and closure phase. As such, during project development and implementation, all the above phases need to be considered and ensured that proper planning is put in place for effective project development to be achieved. During the process of project development within an Information Technology organization, the above project development cycle need to …show more content…
This is timeline of the project from its design to the operational stage. For example, the team is required to allocate time to each development stage and ensures that all requirement and development of the project is done within the stipulated time. Provision of timeline is important in project development because it helps project management team to countercheck the progress of the development (Carr, 2009). At this stage the project planning team is mandated to consider labour required towards the development of the project. These will include number of managers, supervisors and workers needed for the project development based on the number of activities involves in the project development. Also in relation to labour are the equipment that are required towards the development of the proposed project. Project-planning team should also consider all the materials needed for the project to be …show more content…
This is the stage where the project plan from the plan phase is put into execution as found by. During project execution, it is important for the project management team to ensure that proper and effective communication is achieved among the workers of the project. It is through effective communication and relations that will help project management team to create teamwork within the organization. Teamwork will help project management team to perform various activities of the project effective and ensure project development is completed within the time allocation. Thus, effective downward, upwards and horizontal communication must be enforced during project development process. Moreover, Barron and Barron (2011) found that it is important for the organization, through the project management team to ensure that they provide continuous communications to the organizational shareholders and other bodies of the organization on the process of the
Project staff assignment documentation – includes names of project team members, memos to team members, and a project team directory. The Project Schedule – The project schedule includes start and finish dates for project activities, assignments and timing for specific leaders, workers, or other project resources. Resource requirements - The Schedule Development process includes estimates of the resource requirements for a project. Some activities may require double resources.
Milestones and assignments to each responsible individuals working on the project are defined. The reports are requested from individuals to make sure the project and work is moving forward and everyone is on schedule. The work is managed with schedule, deliverables, and assigning capable leads to drive the projects and taking report from the leads. This way, it makes the management hours to be flexible and leaves enough time to respond to issues or needs.
The project is about developing a civil engineering software. The main risk this project would have to be scheduling. Since the project has exactly the required resources it would be important to make sure that before completing the planning process the project team must make sure that their schedule are planned in order to complete the project in time. Since, even a small scheduling mistake would cause the project to be delayed which could increase the project’s budget.
• List all items of mechanical and electrical equipment to be purchased for the proposal project • Identify purchase price for each item • Calculate the total price 5.3 Category “Man power resources”: What is the staff time required to perform the project? • Identify full and part time employees involved in the project • Estimate the number of working hours they will work on the project •
the author is improved the author’s clarification by the rhetorical strategy of definitions of the article properly. Furthermore, readers will feel to be interesting through reasonable and a clear article. Shah composes eight sections into his article that has own heading in each sections. These sections are written by Introduction, Project Description, Owner’s Requirements, Design/Build Contract Negotiation, Final Contract, Result, Conclusion, and Acknowledgements. So, readers are able to read and understand well because each section has its own heading.
Task 1 (P1) Create a poster, for the trainee staff, illustrating the typical phases of a project lifecycle, with a clear explanation of each of the stages. The phases of a project lifecycle include the following: Define and Produce Specification The first part of a project lifecycle is defining what the project will be about this first part is important because if the project wasn’t defined then what will the staff and the project manager be working on as they would have no idea what is required this can be done by asking for the requirements that the client wants for the project if there is one, then after this comes the specifications this means what components are needed for the project or any other things that are needed will vary depending on what the project is about but this will give the manager details on the things needed so that they would be able to get a precise cost on the components needed. Plan and Design Next comes the plan for the project which gives a better idea of what the project will look like and also it might have a rough sketch of not only the design but the components as well it can also have a timeline to give everyone working on the project a time frame when certain parts or things in the project needs to be done, design is also part of this part of the life cycle this
Poor Change Control management. Failure to understanding impact changes and changes are constraint in Projects. Denver should have had a proper change management process that is robust enough to control changes. This could have eliminated the complexity introduced by various changes that took place on project 4. Why did United Airlines decided to act as the project manger for the baggage handling system on Concourse B?
INTRODUCTION The application of information, expertise, tools, and procedures to project activities to meet the project requirements is known as project management (PMBOK 2008). Alternatively, project management is the process in which projects are well-defined, planned, supervised, organized and conveyed such that the agreed features and requirements are fulfilled (APM BOK 2006). Success of IT projects is very much dependent on providing the anticipated product at the projected time, within budget, its desired performance levels, acknowledged by the client, offering at least the minimum agreed functionality i.e. meeting customer satisfaction, and delivering the promised benefits (Dalcher and Brodie, 2007).
You need to create the project scope; how big the project will be and the deadline, budgeting, etc. You need to breakdown to the goals and milestone into task that would be completed. You need to identify constraints that restrict not just the project as a whole but the tasks themselves. You need to think of how many people should work on one task and if one task is related to another. 6.
To organise for project management requires an understanding of the organisation’s architecture which includes the organisational hierarchy - the grouping of internal business units, the authority lines and interaction with one another. Each of these aspects should be designed to support project management within the organisation. Structure should follow strategy or else it may impede communication, coordination and decision making which are all key to success (Brevis, 2014, p. 224). Hence, an important function of upper management is to support project teams by either redesigning the organisation to emphasize projects or integrating projects into the current organisation (Graham & Englund, 2004).
Prioritizing the Triple Constraint One of the first tasks a project manager is faced with is the prioritization of the Triple Constraint; this can only be done by communicating with the client whether the client understands project management or has ever heard of the triple constraint, in their mind, they already know what is most important to them. If your job is project manager, is to find this out, this is usually done by asking them a series of very, well worded questions. As you master the skill of balancing the triple constraint you will naturally begin to keep track of all aspects of project management and you will begin to understand what to look out for and at what stages of a project you should. Client Concerns and Priorities Generally,
It is important to emphasize that these challenges were brought about by poorly defined goals and the scope was usually unclear. This meant the projects usually tended to go beyond the estimates as the project developers tried to fix newly developed ideas in to the development process. the phase gate model was developed to give an outline of the project development process to offer solutions for managing newly launched
The different communication methods are used for different audiences in Atlantis project management including Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for real-time inventory and shipping communications, e-mail or regular mail for business communications, ProjectWeb as the main information interface for information transactions, telephone or web conferences for meetings. Partnering requires high commitment to change by all project team members to work in a team environment with “win-win” relationships, which will result in better quality project and performances, increased probability of timely and on-budget completion of project and reduced risk of claims and litigation. The mutual benefits gained by partnering members of Atlantis project acted as incentives and provided team motivation to achieve optimum project goals, and
The principle reason that motivated me to pursue the MSc Project Management course is the appeal and challenge Project Managers experience in delivering assignments they undertake in their career. The qualification, indeed, lead to very smart and modern careers for graduates who love challenges, creativity, leadership and success. As a graduate of Mathematics, I have cultivated these features in my student life. Now, for my master level of study, I would like to take my chance of attaining formal skills in the area of project management. From my research, I see that Project Management is the application of skills, knowledge and techniques to meet the objectives of a project and stake holder’s expectations.
