President K. Polk being a fair and a smart man had many successes including the promotion of the Manifest Destiny’s policies. One of which including the negotiation possession of the Oregon Territory from the British. Also was able to buy what is now California and New Mexico, gaining all this land after the Mexican-American war. Although he had many other successes, he also had his flaws one of which was when he was running for reelection in 1841. It was not a good time for a Democrat, due to the country being in depression and the bank with many failures.
2) Not only did Texas gained independence from Mexico after the Mexican American war, but the Mexicans also agreed to sell California and everything north of the Rio Grande. Not for free but for about $15 million. This treaty was called the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, being established on February 2, 1848.

Elected in 1844, Polk was president during the prominent dispute between Mexico and the US, and perhaps that tension between the two countries was what led him to state those words about his presidential term. The dispute started in the years preceding Polk’s term. The US Congress refrained from annexing Texas, which had gained independence from Mexico, because some Congressmen believed that doing so would anger the Mexican officials who still regarded Texas as part of their country.

According to (www.History.com) Texas Got its Independence from Mexico in 1836, the United States had declined to incorporate it into the Union, Mainly because the Northern Political interests were against the new addition of the new Slave state. The Mexican Government had also said that any attempt towards annexation would lead to war.

He had made several domestic policies that helped the US economy to strive. Polk was also the president who had acquired the US’s ideal dream of Manifest Destiny by making treaties and compromising to gain land from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Fifty-Four Forty refers to the line of latitude that served as the northern most boundary of Oregon at 54°40'. In his opposition was a very well known politically acclaimed figure, Henry Clay. Despite the odds stacked against him, he was and excellent strategist and realized that the idea of manifest destiny and the public's view towards expansion would be the key to his success.

Another goal that he had was to lower the tariff rate.
