As society evolves the concept of leadership is changing and becoming less of the person who is most qualified and more of the person who has the popular vote and the most followers. As we see in the novel Lord of the Flies there are two different types of people. You have Piggy, who has every qualification to be a leader such as wit, knowledge, and clear thinking but lacks confidence. On the other side of the spectrum there is Ralph who is voted by all of the children to be the leader because he has one thing that appeals to many that a leader must possess; the ability to publically speak and good looks. A leader needs to be both. A leader should share the qualities of both Piggy and Ralph, they should have confidence to speak and lead others as well as the knowledge it takes to back up their decisions. There is one adjective that a leader needs to have in order for others to be interested in what it is they have to say and that is relatability. No one wants to listen to someone who doesn’t relate to how they feel at all. An example of a leader in my life would be my pastor. If every Sunday at church we had a pastor claiming to have never been through struggles with a perfect life no one would want to hear what he had to say because they cannot relate; no one is perfect.
