To achieve the strategic plans toward vision 2020 is offering the entry level of DPT that involves the core values of physical therapists (APTA, 2003). Core values consist, accountability, altruism, compassion, excellence, integrity, professional duty and social responsibility (American Physical Therapy Association[APTA], 2003). My core values have improved because I have been more focused and understanding to my patient's desire or achieve in receiving physical therapy treatment. As a clinician, I take more responsibilities of accepting errors and consequences and self-correct without taking in a negative manner or revenge. I became more flexible with changes of the style of treatment, such as new advanced technologies based on evidenced based practice, linked to excellence (core value). The physical therapy code of ethics has impacted my career of being more aware in preventing liabilities, such as performing activities beyond the scope of my practice. There is a professional consideration of each other's limitations, by engaging in exploration to add to the discovery of facts recognized in the scope of practice (APTA, 2003). As a member of APTA, it enhanced my knowledge of new advanced technology and other physical therapy managements based on evidence. Compassion/ Caring defines the desire to identify with of another's experience (APTA,2003). Caring is the concern, empathy, and consideration for the needs and values of others (APTA,2003). Providing care to my patients is different as compared before I started the TDPT course because I became more active in communicating to the other health care disciplines in my facility in improving the patient's medical care and mental care, such as suggesting the time of medications to be taken that will not adhere the patient's physical therapy treatment, patient's nutrition, clearing obstructions in their bedroom for patient's safety, as well as communicating of patient's caregiver to help improve the patient's function, safety, and other psychological issues for good health outcome. Moreover, respecting other culture or beliefs that I have developed, and it is fulfilling that my patients and caregiver recognized and acknowledged my attitude and behavior towards their culture. According to Cahali (2012), a physical therapist should always understand the client's/patient's custom and traditions, which significantly assist in performing the physical therapy goal for every patient/individual for effective

These factors have a significant impact on health status and physical therapists should consider these factors when evaluating and treating patients. (2009, November 2) p (10-13) c) Personal Cultural Influence: Physiotherapists recognize that their culture and beliefs shape their interactions with their patients and clients. Understanding and acknowledging a person's cultural biases is critical to providing equitable and culturally safe care. Physiotherapists should consider their practice to be inclusive and respectful, regardless of cultural differences. Woods, M. (2010) d) Adaptation of practice: Improving patient-client interactions and adapting practices to improve health outcomes are key components of cultural safety.
My answer: Based on the blueprint for teaching cultural competence in physical therapy association, updated by American Physical Therapy Association, 2014, some of the core values of a physical therapist are clinical excellence and social responsibility. Physical therapists should practice flexibility and possess the ability to understand every person's behavior, as well as their way of life due to cultural practices. Physical therapists fall under the three cross-cultural stages, such as knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity. Cultural competence is essential to all health care providers. To provide an excellent quality of care to our patient, we must know a person's culture, just like entering the patient's world.
We have to display patience with our patient even when they don’t have the patience or they feel the need to give up. Holding your head up, keeping calm, and being encouraging even when the patient isn’t at their best so that will have the client feeling better even when in pain they would be fighting through it knowing they have a therapist that’s encouraging and sympathetic.
My personal characteristics, experiences, and professional and personal goals both align with those promoted by the National Academy of Kinesiology and will greatly contribute to my success in the field of kinesiology and ultimately, as a physical therapist. Some of my most prominent characteristics include my compassion, empathy, and caring nature. My desire to relate and build relationships will aid me when interacting with patients and provide a comfortable environment to perform my duties in the field of Kinesiology. Many of these traits originate from my personal experience as a patient.
Physical therapists get to meet new people everyday with different pains. A physical therapist needs to be well-rounded in their field of study to be prepared for patients. Everyday, physical therapists will have to review their patients medical history, diagnose the patients’ problems and evaluate on how to fix them. To help patients, physical therapists will use stretches, exercise, and equipment to help improve patients. This will help prevent injuries and solve existing injuries.
Although there are many qualities that one could possess that are equally important in displaying professionalism, there are two qualities that I believe a student must have in order to display professionalism, those two qualities are accountability and altruism. One major component that I believe a student should possess to exude professionalism is accountability. Accountability is being able to assume responsibility for any and all actions. Acknowledging personal accountability and accepting all consequences for their actions is a great way for a student in a doctor of physical therapy programs to display professionalism.
Throughout my life, ballet has played a huge part in shaping me as a human from the age of four, teaching me discipline, perseverance, and the importance of pushing the limits of my physical abilities. As a professional ballet dancer, I have encountered numerous injuries over the past three years- starting when I was 13 years old- challenging my determination physically and mentally. From tendonitis to foot surgery, I have experienced the pain, frustration, and emotional toll that comes with the physical setbacks of my passions, which not only tested my physical resilience but also ignited my determination to pursue a career in physical therapy. Physical therapy is not merely a career choice for me, but is a deeply personal journey that has been shaped by my own experiences and a strong desire to make a positive impact on society.
As a professional, one must adhere to the guiding principles defined by the professional association. Scope of Practice outlines the “notions of professional conduct, accountability and self- governance and expanded practice”. Scope of Practice summarizes “the range of roles and activities an individual registrant or licensee is permitted to undertake in the course of professional practice. These roles and activities are largely determined by professional education and practice competence along with factors in the practice context, such as demands on practitioners’ services and available resources” (Fealy 2005). Scope of Practice is based upon the “profession 's unique body of knowledge, supported by educational preparation, a body of evidence, and existing or emerging practice frameworks” (American Physical Therapy Association, 2015).
