Persuasive Essay On Gun Control

Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. Many citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would reduce the threat of crime. People have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting and recreational activity. With the recent events involving firearms and mass shootings, people are skeptical whether to increase or decrease gun laws. Americans have a constitutional right to own handguns and stricter laws and licensing will not effectively save lives.

It’s Valentine’s day, many believe this holiday is about celebrating love and enjoying life, but for others the death of their child. Imagine sending your child to school thinking that they would be safe from any harm and to learn. In total there has been 290 school shootings across the United States of America since 2013. These children are traumatized seeing the death of their fellow classmates and for some, sibling(s), friend(s), or even best friend(s). These children were given a week in order to recuperate from this tragic situation they were put through.

On October 2, 2015, President Barack Obama addressed the nation after yet another shooting, this one being in Oregon. Obama made such claims that this gun issue was becoming “routine” in the nation. With this massacre, along with other prime examples such as the Columbine, Aurora, and Columbia shootings, the nation continues to split down the middle with varying causes, outcomes, and solutions, even though there has yet to be a solid beam of hope to help. However, until the country can find a way to agree on anything, the President may be correct in his accusations.

Between 2000 and 2015, over 150,000 Americans were killed in gun related homicides (Zakaria). It has been estimated that there are over 310 million guns in the hands of United States citizens (Krouse). These statistics have rallied many gun-control opponents and proponents to action. Gun control opponents believe that the answer to this problem is to loosen gun control laws to dissuade potential shooters. Gun control proponents believe that the answer is to tighten gun control laws so that a gun is never put into a potential shooter’s hands.

Gun control has been a big factor in today’s society, now days it is often to see people getting their lives taken from them due to guns. Having researched one side of the issue, that gun violence had increased over the last year. Having researched the other side of the issue, more gun owners are feeling their rights are being taken little by little. There is no question this is a complicated issue that will require a complicated answer.

On December 14, a gunman opened fire in Connecticut elementary school killing 26 people, 20 of them children and 6 of them adults. It was the most horrific event that shook the whole country.

Different parts of the country have separate views regarding gun control laws. Such as, Americans from the south may say current gun control laws are fine, and Americans in the north may say they need to be stricter. Some would even say guns need to be banned all together. If an individual’s ultimate goal is to commit bodily harm to someone, they are going to do it whether they have a gun or not.

33,000 people are killed in gun related incidents, in United States of America alone every year. This is a very staggering statistic knowing that the U.S. is only one country out of the 195 countries in the world today. This is due to several reasons. Shootings are becoming more and more common, guns are getting easier and easier to find, but most of all, the second amendment has reigned supreme in gun laws ever since the founding of America in 1776. Some believe that this is a terrible amendment to have our country live by, this group supports enforcing gun laws or even abolishing guns all together.

When it all comes down to the use of guns, or any weapon against another, there is always three issues that most come across: do I actually have the nerve to go through with it, can I do this and be okay mentally, and can I truly put others lives before mine? These questions, these logical thoughts, are frankly the most important aspects to using any weapon against another. Even if it is in the intent to protect another, you still must consider these facets before doing anything that could bring more harm to others than aid. In relation to this, it shows that these same ideals process through teacher’s, as well as any adult’s, mind frame. Trusting someone not certified and trained thoroughly for an immense period of time with a weapon to protect young children and other adults would be putting the kids and the protector at risk.

Gun Control Gun control over the years has been a controversial subject, with people arguing for both sides. The 2nd amendment states that everyone in the U.S. has a right to bear arms. Mass shootings and suicides by firearm have been a growing concern for many people living in the U.S. Numerous people making the argument that there should be more gun control. Having gun control would help lessen the deaths by firearms in the country for a variety of reasons.

A weapon in the wrongs hands is the maximum danger humanity can face. Nowadays, violence and delinquency in society are viewed as the maximum problem solver. Humanity is full of chaos; hate and envy seize our souls. Guns are the ultimate security for some citizens but for others, these add to a feeling of defenselessness. Throughout history, any topic related to guns means a plethora of problems.

Gun control also limits our constitutionally derived right to own firearms. If gun control is enforced, law-abiding citizens will be forced to give up their guns and their right to own guns, while many criminals who own guns may illegally keep theirs. As the saying goes “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Guns are an important aspect of our society in many ways. They allow for protection, recreation, and hunting.

Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.

Why guns should be legal The NRA has a saying that goes “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun.” This quote is very powerful because if guns were taken away, then good people wouldn’t be able to stop bad people with guns. Guns are not the ones that are pulling the trigger, it’s the people who are holding them. Furthermore, guns were created in the fourteenth century and they were around a full four centuries before there was ever a school shooting.

Majority of the people who oppose gun control believe that it violates the Second Amendment. The Revere Journal says that “In terms of the substance of the Second Amendment, the notion of a militia has no practical meaning today relative to what that term meant in the late 18th century. We are long past the days when farmers left the fields to become de facto soldiers, or when posses were rounded up to chase outlaws, or when settlers were on their own in a hostile environment. Some pretend that a lifestyle that no longer exists still has meaning in the America of the 21st century.” The people that agree on needing strict gun control laws will find a stronger connection to this image compared to the people who oppose
