My interest in dentistry was sparked at the age of fourteen. It all started after me and my dentist decided that I needed braces, for a "wonderful smile" as he put it. Every visit to the dentist was a new experience to me. From every time I had my braces cleaned and checked to the difficulties I had to endure afterwards, curiosity found its way, and I slowly took an interest in dentistry. The conversations with my dentist revolved around the fundamentals of the dental world, and this strengthened my confidence and unlocked my hidden potential in indulging myself with the world of dentistry. At first, I was unsure about which career path I would like to pursue, but after these visits my curiosity and inspiration grew and I am pleased to say that I have reached the point where I can say that I am enthusiastic and about starting a dentistry course. My work experience at Al Fardan Orthodontics Clinic for two weeks gave me an insight into the world of a dentist. The practical work given by my dentist started off with check-ups to aiding the dental nurses. I also observed a range of oral hygiene treatments such as stain removal treatment to prevent gum disease. This experience taught me about the advancement in technology since my dentist introduced me to the Damon brace …show more content…
I strive to become a passionate dentist one day and will always test my abilities and undertake many challenges in order to continue achieving this profession. I believe I am suitable for this course because I enjoy being part of a team, willing to give advice and help others, and obtained valuable skills and achievements so far. One of my ambitions after I finish my degree is to make sure I shape a new smile for my patients of all ages that would not only enhance their appearance but to also make sure that they feel amazing from the inside
If the dentist diagnoses any gum disease, our hygienists are trained to treat mild to advanced gum disease with deep cleaning using latest technology. We are able in many cases to prevent the need for gum surgery for severe cases. Our ultrasonic scalers use sound waves to remove plaque and calculus (hardened plaque) and provide a more gentle and effective treatment. The ultrasonic scaler gets down to the base of the pocket better, disinfecting the full mouth. We use Arestin® antibiotic treatment and soft-tissue lasers to eliminate remaining bacteria.
I remember the day. I remember the day I had to get braces. That day, I went to the orthodontist’s office with my parents and the process began. After 3 hours of irritation and pain in my mouth, I walked out of the doctor’s office with braces on my teeth and instructions of what not to eat. Every time I think about that day, I remember my parents.
My classmates, faculty, and coworkers know me to be an accountable student and employee. My experience in customer service and administration, paired with my education in dental assisting and dental hygiene allows me to be a cross-trained employee who is willing to jump in and help accomplish any task in the dental office. I understand the fast-paced environment of dentistry and am always willing to lend a helping hand to coworkers to ensure our clients receive the best care while we as teammates feel valued. As a student, I recognize that I am just beginning to learn the ins and outs of this profession and I have learned the value of observing those ahead of me. I take note of feedback from instructors who have experience beyond my knowledge and use their feedback, good or bad, as an opportunity to grow and improve my skills.
I further explored my interest in dentistry through the Dental Career Exploration Pipeline Program. Through this program I learned the impact of one’s oral health on one’s overall health. I learned the types of procedures dentists perform other than the typical filling and extraction. The most memorable and influential part was placing filling and caps, repairing chipped teeth, and many other procedures I was able to perform myself on the mannequin. I left with confidence that dentistry was the career for me.

My ambition to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at University commenced in my teenage years, when I first came to London and visited the dentist. The professional approach coupled with a kind and compassionate nature and all of the different instruments and scientific technology the Dental Hygienist and Therapist used fascinated me. I am currently studying Dental Nursing at Teesside University. This course involves providing correct support to the dentist at the chair side, reassuring and supporting patients, maintaining a gold standard clinical environment, charting, dental anatomy and physiology. Studying this course has enhanced my knowledge of dental terminology and procedures as well as the anatomy of the oral cavity.
Shadowing was a great opportunity for me. It provides students a general overview about a certain career such as working conditions and nature of work. On the 14th of November, I shadowed Dr. Azhar Bustami, a dentist on 10043 E Adamo Dr, Tampa, FL 33619. Dr. Azhar was very welcoming and supportive. She tried her best with explaining the advantages and disadvantages of working as a dentist.
Coming from a different culture but still embracing the Christian values that Loma Linda University emphasizes, I believe that my unique background and personal experiences distinguish my application from others. Growing up in Egypt, where the gap between social classes is significant, my parents always stressed the need to prioritize service into my life encouraging me to dedicate time in volunteering and helping others. As a result, my experience has grown from volunteering to serve as a camp leader for orphans in the summer to participating in international dental service trips. These involvements would allow me to use my skills in organizing missions trips at Loma Linda. Being a Coptic Orthodox Christian enables me to add diversity to the

Not only do crooked or gapped teeth contribute to anxiety also yellowing and visible cavities make people hesitant to do simple things. Things that dental assistants do to help people be more confident in their smiles are whitening and cleaning teeth. I would be able to give people a whiter, fresher, and more healthy smile without them having to go under anesthesia unless they needed something like a root canal. I love to help people, by being an assistant versus an actual dentist, I would be the person who knows the patient the best and would be with them from the time they are to the time they leave. Essentially, I would be the person to do everything but perform a procedure on the patient, including, taking pictures of their teeth, x-rays, cleaning, whitening, and asking the questions about their oral health.
Overall, I think that I will make a great addition to the Dental Hygiene
Health and social care is something that I have always been passionate about. Because I have studied health and social care for the last four years I have regularly met a lot of the most vulnerable members of society through past work experiences. Through past placements I have worked with children who have special needs. This helped me develop ways of communicating with the children this could be through sign language. Because my Aunt is deaf I have taught myself basic sign language in order to communicate with her effectively.
Ever since I was young, dentistry had sparked my interest for my career. Dentistry appeals to me chiefly because I had always wanted to be involved in a profession where I can help people. My love towards human biology especially human teeth also contributes to my career choice. Most importantly, I find human teeth interesting, often fascinating. Due to my compassionate nature, I have since long known that I would want to pursue dentistry as my career because I get to form relationships with my patients, work hand in hand with many people on a face to face basis.
Being able to provide the dental patient with a degree of happiness and peace of mind is the most rewarding aspect of dentistry, and I credit my university and my professors with this affirming experience. I study under incredible doctors and practice on a high volume of patients while providing high quality care to underserved populations at UNIBE in the Dominican Republic. It is refreshing to see the relief and happiness on patients’ faces after they receive treatment. My goal is to be a leading dentist, and I strive to be a preeminent clinician by contributing to research, perfecting my clinical skills and continuing to aid underserved populations. Research has been a key part of my dental school experience.
I am a first-generation college student who was raised in a single-parent household, in an underserved community. My status as growing up in a neighborhood with less access to healthcare not only encourages me to pursue a career in dentistry, but it also inspired me to make an impact through community service. My clinical experience as a junior give me insight on the oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of the population who has less access to care. I’ve seen many patients that required extensive work because they had not visited a dentist in many years. I’ve also provided oral healthcare to inmates that can’t be obtained in their facility in our oral surgery clinic.
