Personal Statement: A Career In Education

As the oldest of eight children and many cousins, I have always loved little kids. Hearing them laugh, seeing them smile, seeing them overcome something and being able to celebrate their accomplishments are all things I enjoy. I also love teaching them and always find it rewarding when I get to see a light bulb go off. Because of this, I would like to place my career pathway in education. More specifically, as an elementary school teacher. And because I imagine myself being the mother of many children, this job would be perfect as my schedule would fit theirs. First, let’s take a look a little closer into the future than my married days. During my senior year of high school, I would like to do running start in order to get the first year of college out of the way. After I graduate, I would like to continue going to Pierce College and receive my Associate degree there. Then, I will transfer to Central Washington University and finish off my schooling. Fist of all, I am the oldest of eight children. This has given me plenty of experience working with kids and helping them learn. It also has helped me to learn patience in many areas. These include times when kids are not listening to what I’m telling them to do, times when kids are crying and they really have no need to, and even those times when you are trying to get them to understand something and they just aren’t. All of these are definitely prevalent in the world of elementary school children. I have also learned to be diligent and determined. Having seven little siblings makes my life a little hectic, and it can be very difficult to get things done sometimes. This includes homework and chores, and especially the part time jobs I have now. And, being able to do things in a little bit of time will be perfect for when I have to grade and lesson plan as a
