Personal Statement: A Career In Education

For over twenty years I was a Nursery Nurse who developed professionally by undertaking different roles within my school, attending courses to help me reach my full potential, but now I feel that I need to do more for the children and the families in my care. I have a vision of what I want to achieve and provide as a fully qualified teacher.

I have learned to plan my time around working with my animals and chores, while also playing sports and doing my homework. These life skills are so important, and I am grateful that I got to learn

As an Early Educator, I see children as flower buds, that need my undivided attention and love. They need a safe and rich environment so they can blossom into strong and confident flowers. Like flowers, there is diversity among them, and it is my duty to accommodate and meet the needs of each flower, in order to help them grow. I see children as curious and active learners, and my job as an educator is to provide a safe and rich environment, where children can explore freely. I strongly believe in forming secure attachments with each child, to provide that comfort they need to explore the world around them.

When I looked further into it, the career that interested me the most was Teacher Assisting. Being a teacher’s assistants meets what I value through having a good workplace, since I get to work with kids and it is something I love to do. There would be a sense of accomplishment seeing all when a child finally gets something that they are struggling on and the innovative challenge of coming up with new ways to present the same information so that each student gets the concept. In order to be in this career field I would need to have the abilities of oral comprehension and expression as well as be able to speak clearly and understand what someone is saying when they speak to me. Being in this career field means I would be supervising children in distinct places around the school environment.

I have selected Elementary Education as my major. Children have always been a part of my life and I can’t imagine my future without kids in it. Three years ago, I started a business that incorporated my love for children and my entrepreneurial spirit. I opened Courtyard Summer Camp - a half day, outdoor, adventurous summer camp!

The role of an educator is not only to teach the many children that come through our classrooms, it is essential to form relationships with students that makes them feel like they matter and that goes above and beyond a teacher's job. It is essential for children to feel valuable, appreciated and motivated in the early stages of their education, the reason why I am pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching for an Elementary level academic setting. Receiving a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education Sciences at the University of California Irvine and the leadership roles I have undertaken in my employment has prepared me to begin and undertake a Masters of Arts in Teaching

I have always had the desire to find a career that enabled me to help others improve their quality of life. Growing up with my father as an elementary school teacher, I witnessed first-hand the positive influence you can have on a child’s life, as well as their future. He always stressed that each student is an individual, not just a number. Early on, I learned that every child is far more than their standardized test scores. Even though I felt the draw to work with children, I knew that little reward came from the hard work of being a regular classroom teacher.

One being, learning how to manage my time. There were weeks where we would have school all day, then practice till five, then a basketball game at six. It was extremely hard to study, cheer, work, and somehow have a social life. These situations helped me plan ahead to when I was going to finish homework or study for my upcoming tests. I will use this useful skill in college next year where i'll find myself always looking for time that I don't have.

I am a responsible, hard-working, ambitious and kind person who has a strong passion to attain a career in education. My ambition is to become a primary school teacher and I firmly believe that in order to work in education it is the desire to help and assist children in achieving their best. Working in education can be tough and challenging, which is one of the reasons that I really love about working in this profession. I am applying for this course because I feel that I have the potential to inspire and encourage children of all abilities and for them to reach their full potential. Working in education has always been my passion and dream goal to be a primary school teacher since I was young.

After carefully considering my skills, interest, and values; I have decided my first choice of career plan would be to become a Kindergarten teacher. I am suitable for this job because I would like to work with children. I can help children that need help and want every child to be safe. Being a teacher comes with a lot of responsibilities and skills that I need to learn. The responsibilities that I will have are to create lesson plans, observe students, grade students' assignments, and prepare students for state assessments.

All skills apart from the academic ones which are important to being a good teacher and demonstrates my willingness to go the extra mile. Studying and working in education has shown me that it is a challenging and rewarding career, but I believe my track record of dedication and hard work in both elements suggests that I can meet its demands. Enrolling “in college-preparatory classes, including courses in English, the physical sciences, a foreign languages, history, and mathematics” can also benefit those working to be teachers (“Elementary School Teachers” Occupational 4). Individuals, working to be teachers, benefit from taking classes such as social studies, psychology, and language arts. Other classes that might be helpful are courses in teaching methods including those in curriculum design, which teaches how to plan lessons, the philosophy of education, which teaches how to instruct and manage students. To become a teacher, individuals are required to have a teacher’s certificate. To qualify for this certificate by earning “a four-or five-year Bachelor of Education degree with a major in elementary education or a Bachelor of Arts degree with certain specified education courses” (“Elementary School Teacher” Occupational 3).

I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily. Teaching can leave a lasting impression in a child’s life and offers a special opportunity to shape the bright young minds of future generations. While many professions can be impactful, I believe the qualities of the person in the career position to be the most influential.

My career is a preschool teacher because I want to become a preschool teacher. The preschool teaches children that have not wanted them the first year of kindergarten. The duties are to help the kids are 3 to 5 years old to be ready for kindergarten, by working with kids in group by themselves, but depends on what subjects do they need the help in and helping plan out for the children day for breakfast, snacks, lunch, activity, rest, and playtime. In a childcare center, preschool teachers are required to have a last a high school diploma and a certification in early childcare education, but to start out ahead of a preschool teacher is getting into programs are required to have a least associate’s degree.
