Personal Narrative: My Experience As A Registered Nurse

This last week was not the best. I might've bombed my Chemistry final; I studied for days from the book and practice exams. The test was nothing like I expected it to be, and now my hopes of getting into the nursing program are going down the drain. I still need to find out what I got, but I just feel defeated. Thank you for your prayers, I need them right now.

I’m (McMurphy) starting to think that trying to rebel and act ornery towards the Big Nurse is a bad idea. I know that it would be right to keep fighting the fact that the women are trying to rule us, but fighting the matriarchy may not benefit me. Not to long ago I figured out that the nurse can keep me here as long as she wants. Originally, I was planning on only serving my sentence and leaving. However, my behavior could warrant staying here forever, and I’m not even a psychopath.

The strong Lutheran foundation at Valparaiso University that prepares students to lead and serve in the community. In addition to the church, and society offers me the opportunity to pursue a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. The university's foundation and family-centered focus make it a great place for work-study. Although no one ever suggested that my journey to become a Registered Nurse would turn out to be a faith-based journey, I transitioned from Medical Assistant to Registered Nurse in 2017. I enrolled in an LPN program with only 12 weeks until graduation, but the school closed with no further information.

In those hospital visits I had become accustomed to the sights and smells of a doctor’s office that instead of reminding me of pain, comforted me. I knew from then on, that the medical field was where I was called to serve.

It was at that moment, listening to her on that first day, that I knew nursing was what I was called to do. Even as I shadowed nurses during my senior year of high school, I felt a belonging in my spirit. I observed these nurses show such compassion and solace to the people they continuously encountered. As I ended my senior year, I asserted that I would become a nurse.

A nurse practitioner takes the place of a physician when there's a gap in the amount of doctors available at a hospital or clinic. The nurse will examine patients, order tests and prescribe medications like a doctor would. A nurse will support disease prevention with patients as well as focusing on wellness and a change in bad lifestyle habits. As I embark on my journey to become a registered nurse at the master's level, I anticipate significant changes in my role and responsibilities. As a registered nurse, I will transition from a student nurse to a fully licensed healthcare professional. This transition entails a shift from primarily observing and assisting in patient care to taking on a more independent and autonomous role in providing comprehensive care to individuals, families, and communities. The standards for my new role as a registered nurse are established by professional nursing organizations, regulatory bodies, and healthcare institutions.

From the beginning of my nursing endeavors, I knew that working at Broward Health will be my goal. My work towards it wasn’t easy, but I hope that this healthy challenge will be rewarded one day. Whenever I could, I choose to have my clinical rotations at one of Broward Health System hospitals. My first three clinical rotations were on oncology floor at Broward Health, where I was exposed to patients with various and serious conditions. Despite the fact that most of these patients were suffering, they fought and had hopes in them that really made me going.

Sometimes, we would have people come to our home for treatments as well. Our home had become a place of healing for the broken, both literally and metaphorically. Our home had being set apart from many others. I learnt the importance of love, care, and support. My first opportunity personally interacting with patients was after I became a certified nursing assistant (CNA); I took a job at a Skilled Nursing Home called York land Park.

On 2/05/17, I was getting medication for another patient when Kofi Obeng, came up to me with the new admission vital signs. He stated, he could not find the new admission that came in because it was not in the system. So I asked him to tell the nursing clerk to assist him to accept the client in the system. When he went to ask her. She responded to him that anyone can do it and she is not doing it.

There is a high significance for a nursing student completing their degree in nursing to start their career as a nurse practitioner. Nursing students must prepare to become nationally certified by an accredited body upon completion of their schooling in order to advance their career (AANP, 2016). This academic accreditation process helps to show that the students have met the requirements to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in their population focus testing. The scope of practice will be affected based on the certification that the practitioner obtains. If the Nurse Practitioner obtains a certification as a nurse specialists in pediatrics, oncology, geriatrics, emergency medicine, etc.

I interviewed a Nurse Practitioner (NP) at a Rediclinic in Pennsylvania. It was a very friendly and professional environment. At the Rediclinic a medical assistance works as receptionist. NP has a private room for practice. It was packed, a guy was waiting for driver license physical examination, a young girl was waiting for a flu shot, and a lot more.

As a nursing student, I have a grasp on what nursing is through textbooks and lectures. The more I learn about this profession, the more I learn about what my philosophy is. Although I haven’t gained clinical experience as a nurse, I have gained some clinical experience as a nurse assistant that helps me administer patient care while acquiring knowledge working under the supervision of nurses. This experience helps me to become knowledgeable on what their roles and responsibilities are, and it has inspired me that I hope when I graduate, to equal their skill, diligence and passion.

My Sense of Purpose at Work Dela Gana, Karol Raneses June 24, 2015 Summary— my nursing career allows me to obtain essential qualities to what I believe is needed to be a successful nurse. I established important goals to remain on this path for success. It made me the person I am today. It is hard to just pick one memorable moment because it is the big and small daily happenings that make nursing such a rewarding profession. It is priceless profession.
