Perseverance In The Little Rock Nine

The Little Rock Nine will be forever known as history as great leaders. The Little Rock Nine are the first African Americans to go to an all white high school known as Central High. With the help of Mrs.Bates their mentor to protect them it will not be easy. Carlotta Walls LaNier has written her autobiography called A Mighty Long Way. During the integration of Little Rock Central High in 1957,the media illuminated certain event but painted an inaccurate or incomplete picture of other events.

Because they fought for a good education. They endured harassment from people who did not even know them. For a simple reason as that they are African American, they were treated as if they had no freedom. As a result, “Little Rock 9” suffered through hate because the group is African American.

Going from being shunned upon for speaking up, to having power and a voice in deciding their future. Though it may seem President Eisenhower, the media, Governor Faubus -the governor of Arkansas at the time- or the segregationists had the most power, the Little Rock Nine out matched all of them.

The Little Rock Nine was a group of teenager chosen to integrate Central High, which is in Little Rock, Arkansas. The group consists of three guys, named Ernest Green, Jefferson A. Thomas, and Terrence Roberts. The girls of the group were Carlotta Walls LaNier, Minnijean Brown, Elizabeth Eckford, Thelma Mothershed, Gloria Karlmark, and Melba Pattillo Beals. Ernest Green was a senior when he started at central, he was the first African-American student to graduate from Central High. They commonly faced challenges of the segregationists.

With certain life skills, people can overcome almost any challenge. Of these skills, perseverance, adaptability, and integrity are notably important, opening up a world of new opportunities and experiences. Also, without these three concepts people’s lives wouldn’t be as fulfilling. American actor Christopher Reeve once quoted, "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles" (Brainy Quote). Not only did he play a hero as Superman, he truly became one in his personal life. After becoming a quadriplegic Reeve became a spokesperson for people with spinal cord injuries. A hero is a person one admires because of the qualities and selfless actions they exemplify to overcome adversity and inspire others. Heroism is apparent in literature, history, and in our own life.

The Little Rock nine had strength and courage to apply for an all white school despite on others that may not agree on having black students in their community, even though one was expelled and some not graduated they all represent a mark of achievement in black history they symbolized hope of integrating other public schools and maybe the world. They had words of wisdom from Martin Luther King Jr. explaining them he is aware of the mobs and Faubus and others trying to terminate there education, he gave explains how their action are unholy and to remain Christian to represent all of black people to show others how to properly act into these types of situations, and all integration in the future is upon them they must show who blacks are and how to correctly define us. However the school board, governors, and organization showed an abundance of resistance to the court ruling, they tried many protests and rallies to avoid the nine students in Little Rock. Although they all tried to stop the nine students from proper education, Little Rock Nine held their heads high and eventually were able to encounter human relations and graduate, the nine students us all how we are defined and we should not let anyone determine that for us depending on race, gender, or

“A true hero isn’t measured by the size of their strength, but by the strength of their heart.” A hero is a person that does something to help or they can also save someone 's life. One example of, being a hero is Darry because he takes care of Ponyboy and Sodapop. Another example, of being a hero is Johnny when he saved Ponyboy and the little kids. A further example, of being a hero is Ponyboy when he also saved the little kid’s life and when he wanted to take the blame for killing Bob.

With America being in the midst of the Cold War, the government still made time and effort for nine students to receive equal education and show the nation that they were ready for change. The government ensuring the nine's safety and education made black people feel recognized, somewhat altering their perspective of the government. Although the nine students' lives were changed forever, they also helped change the lives of future generations. The strengths exhibited at Central high school helped shape a new generation of black citizens. Citizens became fearless in fighting for equal opportunities due to the trailblazing the Little Rock Nine had done.

Little Rock Nine fought for their rights to go to a public all white school. This has changed the lives of many people because it lead to the desegregation of public places. Every past and modern culture over the course of history, has its hero’s. A hero is a person or figure that others look up to and use as forms of protection. Many cherish the hero’s, they make up who we are today. The Anglo-Saxon hero, Beowulf, and the postmodern hero/hero’s, the soldiers, both show the traits of bravery, selflessness, and loyalty. To have the trait of bravery you have to have lots of confidence in yourself and have courage.

The Little Rock Nine were very young, brave, and strong kids for pushing through and finishing the school year. In conclusion, the Little Rock Nine used perseverance, passion, and bravery to become the first black students to attend an all-white school. Scott LaBarge’s essay “Heroes: Why Heroes are Important” is well written because he effectively uses pathos, logos, and karios when explaining heroes to his audience. When something goes wrong or we feel like we cannot continue, we could all use someone to step in and change our situation. Everyone needs a hero. LaBarge gives an excellent example from his high school days; Thoreau inspired him and became his hero. The high school period of one’s life is a difficult period.
