Paramedic practice is ever changing and it’s a continuing challenge to provide the best care for patients. Many studies that have been conducted with evidence based practice are still relativity infantile within a prehospital or emergency medical service environment. Evidence from Merrill (2014) indicates that “evidence based medicine” only began to progress in the 1970’s. With any type of research there comes faults and benefits. Advantages can include: the research is open ended, dynamic and flexible. It can provide a depth of understanding with a deeper and broader outlook on the certain subject. If a small sample is use the can often provide a quicker result as well as a cheaper method of research. With the positives comes disadvantages with the consequence of risk within the information collected. According to statements from the man, he had been swatting a bee before the big rig rolled over in a ditch. The State Patrol and county deputies responded to the accident at 10:58 am, along with the Baldwin Ambulance and United Fire personnel. The driver said that a bee had entered his 2005 fuel tanker, and he had done his best to remove it, which is the reason for the truck rollover. According to radio transmissions, the man told them that the truck carried diesel fuel that had about 600 gallons.
For this week’s discussion post I will identify a situation where evidence-based practice has been applied in my workplace. Evidence-based guidelines are put in place and into practice after research has been completed. This helps with intertwining practice and research and are established by professional organizations, government agencies, institutions, or expert panels (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). These clinical guidelines give clinicians findings to help in the decision making process of diseases or treatments. In developing evidence-based practice, a clinical question must first be put into place.

Evidence alone is not enough in decision making hence the integration of the three elements. In order to ensure effective public health programme the practitioner must ensure that every decision made is evidence based.
Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016).
