Oskar Schindler was born on April 28th, 1908 in what is now Suvitavy, Czech Republic, to Johann and Franziska Schindler.He chose to not pursue higher education at a university or college. Instead, Schindler later enrolled in a technical trade school as he was passionate about manufacturing machinery. On March 6th, 1928, he married Emilie Pelzl. He is best known for his role in saving the lives of over 1,200 Jewish people during the Holocaust by having them work in his artillery shell and enamelware factory in the concentration camp of Krakow, Poland. Schindler protected their lives and ensured that they received adequate food, water, shelter, and were not killed or deported by SS officials.
