Leadership is a form of art and science. There are various strings attached to this term that turn into actions and influences. One of the most influential leadership organizations are those men and women who serve the United States within military forces. Every person in this organization has some sort of leadership role that is critical and influential to the force. One of the biggest challenges that good leaders face is the encounter with another good leader. Though the initial thought would be that two leaders would work well together, that isn’t always the case. Good leaders can obtain all the same qualities but portray them in such different ways that they could possibly clash. Operation AL FAJR was a study conducted on a U.S Army and …show more content…
This sparked during the American World War I victory where the U.S Marines received a lot of the credit, as if they did it all on their own. By the end of the war, it was very obvious that there was tension between the two forces. Army officers were suspicious of Marines officers and Marines officers were always trying to be above the Army officers. The tension and rivalry was very apparent to the public. When World War II came around, there was still animosity between the two. General Douglas MacArthur argued “the Marines had enough glory in WWI” referring to the fact that they glorified themselves after the victory. Sadly, there was so much conflict that Army MG Ralph C. Smith was relieved of command because of lack of leadership and aggressiveness, and he blamed the Marines for it. In this case, this would be a worst-case scenario. As a leader, those who follow should always be of top priority because, especially during battle, their life is in your hands. Because of that rivalry, MG Smith was not able to perform to his best ability and that is extremely unfortunate. The rivalry was so bad, President Harry S. Truman said that the military should represent “a more unified, cohesive, fighting force”. When the president gets involved speaking on the leadership of such powerful forces, it should be considered the last red flag. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case when the Security Act of 1947 that expanded the role of the Marines, which infuriated the Army even more than before. At the entry of the Korean war, the tension was still boiling. It was almost as if it had no end because it even continued through the Vietnam
A man in that high of a position should make better decisions on the battlefield. General George McClellan no longer deserves his position after the events that occurred on September 17 near Antietam Creek. I hope I am not the only one shares this opinion and that President Lincoln hears our opinion and reacts with at least a demotion. I also believe
Throughout the civil war the Union was plagued by incompetent generals that would not us the men they had, not use their men in a way that could achieve victory in the field of battle. This begs the question what makes a good officer? A good officer should be respected by his men and he should respect his own superiors.
The U.S. Marine Corps Doctrinal Publication titled Warfighting is one of the most important written documents the Corps has produced. It is the lifeblood to the organization’s overall bodily function of winning battles. The text is basic in methodology and sound in composition. It was not designed as a “warfighting for dummies” procedural approach to fighting in war, although the how part is broadly answered. It was, however, intended to answer the philosophical bigger question, why we fight (Warfighting, 1997).
The tenacity and passion of Marines is one of their greatest attributes, however without regulations to guide their behavior, Marines have a tendency to be extreme. Striking the rank insignia was a way of congratulating a newly promoted Marine. This tradition, however, began leaving Marines injured and unable to carry out their duties. Assault was not a tradition the Marine Corps was willing to uphold.
Throughout the history of the United States, war has become a very questionable topic. The simple idea of war already exudes a barbaric resolve to conflict, but yet it still occurs and even gets support from the public most of the time. Out of all of the many wars the United States has been through, one of the few that stood out to be very unpopular among the public was the Vietnam War. Of course, war itself already contracts negative opinions from many people, but the Vietnam War, in particular, was one of the most hated by almost all people on the home front. It is a subject of question as to why this war, compared to previous ones the United States has been in, was often ridiculed instead of supported during its time.
The proper use of chain of command, The chain of command suppose to look out for the morale and welfare of its soldiers. With using the chain of command the soldiers issue can be handled at the lowest level possible. When one has an issue take it to your NCO first and if the issue is not handled then one would take it to the next highest ranking person. The chain of command is basically like a ladder where you can go as high or low as you need to, to get your issue taken care of. Six hundred dash twenty, chapter two, paragraph two dash on section C, the enlisted soldiers are required to use the noncommissioned officer support channel before using the chain of command, the right was is from the lowest to the highest first speak to your team
One of the funniest Moments in Marine Corps History It all started before I was born, I come from an extensive line of United States Marines. The story goes my father was a Marine, and his father was a Marine and so on and so forth. Well, it was like destiny that I, myself become a marine when I was old enough to join the Marine Corps.
In Cahn and Abigail’s (2013-06-07) opening to Managing the Conflict Climate they state that no matter where you are, you’ll be in an environment that makes you feel either comfortable or uncomfortable, both mentally and physically. The five opposing concepts that make up the conflict atmosphere are individual decision making versus groupthink, supportive behavior versus defensive behavior, equality versus imbalance of power, cooperation versus competition and trust versus distrust. A nurturing conflict environment encourages mutually satisfying outcomes, openness, collaboration and assertiveness through trust, supportive behavior, equal power, and cooperation.
Leadership takes notice, responsibility, self-development, and experience. Thoughts pop up when one thinks of a leader, perhaps a captain of a team, the president, maybe even the bigger brother. These people are mostly responsible and developed, they take notice into what is happening in any situation but the experience is where a leader and a follower have things in common in most situations. Lord of the Flies is a book where children are trapped on a deserted island and have to create their own small world. Jack is one of the chosen leaders in the book, he came with most of the children from the plane crash.
Operating outside the doctrine involves personal risk for leaders but has to be considered if it delivers the strategic outcomes. h. Professionalism, desire to succeed, willingness to seek and accept responsibility, willingness to take personal risk, etc are pre-requisites to be a successful leader. j. Human Quality is equally important besides military knowledge in the Multi-National Force Structure. k.
Leaders must apply the Army Values when leading soldiers because of the fact that it builds trust and a bond. The same goes for the soldiers, in order for them both to work as an effective team and to get the mission done efficiently they both must live by these values. Once these values are integrated in a soldier’s lifestyle, it becomes too easy to work as a unit. An example on how loyalty and respect fits in a day to day to situation would be, a soldier witnessing a misunderstanding with his or her team leader and a higher ranking NCO, the soldier knows that his or her team leader is in the right. The soldier shows loyalty by standing by their team leader and shows respect by approaching both their team leader and the higher ranking NCO with tact to explain the situation from their understanding and what they witnessed.
From the Commandant and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps down to lower echelons, the same message is consistently delivered, help is available. However, there are things that should be happening that are not. The most apparent is buy-in from mid-level leadership. Mid-level leaders face daunting tasks to meet increasing operational tempos with little dwell time and scarce resources.
And respect is most certainly not gained by a childish man snickering behind his cell phone taking a video with a smirk on his face. In the military these actions that display the inability to be a member of the team, the inability to get along or instigating chaos amongst the members of the team is not tolerated. Instead the swift, skilled leadership redirect the soldiers under their charge as to the missions and goals of the team. And when this cannot be accomplished, the one who places their selfishness above the team is removed by reassignment or simply discharged if
Leadership Leadership is the art of guiding and leading individuals towards an objective or a specific goal. Leading is bodied with many different day to day functions that are needed in order to make an organization or business run smoothly. Without leadership, the workplace could turn into a chaotic work environment for the employees as well as the employer. This could cause severe problems for an organization. Without leadership, there would be no management, and without management there would be no leaders.
Military leadership is the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Another significant aspect of emphasized by the army is charisma.
