Open campus high school helps improve student behavior. “Research shows that teen drug use and other dangerous behavior is highest between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. - the unsupervised hours between the end of school day and the time parents get home from work” (Merino 89). The mistakes or little flaws of a few students should not affect the students who did not do anything wrong (Saslow). At Frankfort High School some city school leaders hope that reviving open campus will better connect students with their community (Schanding). Open campus is not a matter of closing opening the campus (Saslow). Open campus is about trying to help students manage time right which could also improve the behavior of those students (Saslow). “At Great Neck North, …show more content…
Frankfort High school believes that the ultimate goal of open campus is to provide students with the real-world skill sets (Schanding). In that case talking about maturing students and teaching responsibility so that they will be ready for college or adult life (Schanding). “We want it to be a little more structured. Students will be accountable, Barber said. We know there are logistics and there has to be steps worked out...but it all starts with the concept of allowing students to have freedom and independence in the lunchtime” (Schanding). Having open campus High School allows the students to make their own independent choices. (Saslow). Making these independent choices as a High School student is extremely important for kids as they grow older, it makes students more responsible as young adults (Saslow). At North Shore High School ninety-five percent of the students use the privilege of open campus responsibly (Saslow). Ninety-five percent of the time/students use their open campus lunch …show more content…
Allowing the students open campus could in fact give them a chance to go home, and take drugs, but the truth is half of the students most likely would not spend their time that way (Merino 88). Some schools believe that they should not allow open campus due to them being about five miles at least away from the nearest restaurant, being further away from a restaurant means that students can become more experienced at driving (Schanding). There are many schools that believe that if they allow open campus their students will go home and sneak into their parents alcohol cabinet, but teachers and parents are going to have to allow some freedom or else the students would not be able to prove/ gain trust (Saslow). “Safety is of the utmost important to us, so the option to leave was removed at the Glen Burnie High School”, but most kids would most likely try to stay safe (Nwabuzo). Parents who are at work would probably like to know that their kids are safe and at school not out getting food or at home doing bad actions, although most kids are not as bad as most parents or teachers think (Saslow). People believe that there is a lack of discipline and that kids have too much free time, and that open campus just simply will not help kids achieve the best education possible, but not allowing open campus could also make students feel claustrophobic/stressed out (Saslow). Students could be going home and committing bad
Every year, more and more food is wasted and school lunches because nobody thinks they are good anymore. The quality of food goes down, less students eat, and more wish they could go and eat somewhere, anywhere, else. If schools were to add off-campus lunches, however, that would all improve. While off-campus lunches may promote unsupervised behavior, going off campus for lunches is a viable option because it is cheaper for the school, cheaper for the students, and makes sure everyone will eat.
If college students continue to cut out the aspects of education that may be upsetting, it is very likely that things worth learning will disappear. When classrooms are meant to comply with a certain level of safety and well being, the freedom of real curiosity and discovery are removed and unreal expectations for life are generated. Your Analysis: I found this article to be thought provoking and well written. The author, Peggy Noonan, brings up a number of points that I believe to be relevant in today’s education system. It’s definitely probable that if universities continually remove and edit classroom material and discussions, the kind of learning that results in actual progress will be inhibited.
Over time, schools have become more refined and communicative, especially with the addition of student liaisons at board meetings, reporting on their school’s events, activities, and
When I attended Palmetto Boys State in June of 2017, there was one thing that I was told repeatedly since the first day: “You get out what you put in.” Before I attended, I roughly knew that Boys State was a government simulation program, and I was interested yet still unsure about the program. While it is a government simulation program, Boys State at its core teaches more than government and law. When I decided to follow the advice I was given and put in as much as I could, the week turned out to be one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Santee City, the city I had been placed in, did not have a great start to the week.
Fremont High School is located in Los Angeles, California, “sprawled across a city block.” The school enrolls about 5,000 students every year but only 3,300 are in attendance every day. The students read at an elementary school level and are not provided the necessities to succeed. The school is lacking many resources, such as, classrooms, restrooms, and lunchrooms. The school lacks at least 15 restrooms that the law requires.
High School Graduation The beginning of the Highs School year, was a new experience for me,because of begin alone in the school without knowing nobody, not knowing the language and have zero knowledge of the academic level i need it to have in order to graduate, on the mid senior year of high school,i got a call from the counselor Mr.Calume,he told me that, in order to graduate i need it to pass 4 states exams that can be only due 2 times per year semester, and i was in my last semester of high school,so the chances of me passing those test were low for me. There for, i meet some olds friends from when i was a child from my country (Venezuela) they have move to the same school i me,so they reached me some tips and trick to pass
During lunchtime, students generally make their way through the crowded cafeteria to sit with their friends, and enjoy their lunch while being supervised; however, many schools are now authorizing students to have an open campus lunchtime. An open campus allows students to leave school campus unsupervised to have lunch or hang out at a local restaurant or business. Having an open campus is beneficial because it allows students to gain independence, responsibility, trust, the health of students, socialize with friends, and help increase business at local restaurants. Therefore, I believe Arapahoe should continue to have an open campus for the benefit of our students. Having an open campus allows students to leave the school grounds to have lunch outside and be able to socialize with their peers.
Concealed Carry on College Campuses Concealed carry on college campuses is an ongoing controversy in today’s society. There are a lot of questions and valid points from both sides of agreement and disagreement. The following essay will answer the readers’ questions about concealed carry and persuade them to agree with the right side.
Not everyone wants to stay on campus and they may not be in walking distance of the campus. When they drive to class they want there to be a
Sacrificing their individuality and creativity is just a step in the right direction towards their version of success. Even though sacricinfing one’s true self is great, they are willing to do so if it brings them profit in their own lives. Ultimately, the selfish need for success outweighs the corruption and negativity it brings to the overall system, and in that respect, restricts itself from progressing towards change. Because a generic system like a college can not cater to every individual, there are always concrete flaws, one of which is the pressure to confrom.
As you can perceive, unlike Campus, with smaller class sizes Haysville High gives each and every student an opportunity to have one on one time with their teachers. To put it differently, Campus High is overpopulated, and the school seemed “crammed.” For instance, there are countless classrooms at Campus that are so full; they do not even have enough desks for the students. Thus, Haysville High is diminutive enough to focus attention on every student, and makes all of us feel accepted. For all these reasons, Haysville High’s environment is more conducive to learning than Campus is.
Waikato Times says, “If students were to be pampered by a late school start, we would get a rather big shock when, further down the track, our employers would expect us to begin work at 8am.” There are also a large quantity of students who have after school jobs and due to late start late release school days they will not be able to put in as many hours as they would if the school hours were left alone. Students are also involved in sports that require after school practices. School getting out later means that practices will run later too. This would leave students less time to complete homework, not to mention the students who live out of town and have a long drive to get
How much does summer vacation mean to you? That's the question many families ask themselves as they make the choice for year round schooling. With year round schooling students take several breaks, similar to a winter break in length, instead of one long break in the summer. Some people feel it is a terrible idea, while others say the academic aspect is superior. Although some people feel strong about year round schooling, year-round schooling is not the best educational option for students.
The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.
Studies show that overweight students tend to have more problems with learning and paying attention (Miura). Many parents also fear that children would have the chance to skip school of get into drugs and alcohol while they are loose for their lunch break. People of the communities have also expressed their fears of increased traffic and increased risk of traffic collisions (?9 Primary Pros and Cons of Open Campus Lunch?). Not only can open lunches cause health problems, but they can lead to other dangers such as a car crash or
