The great Criminal Justice system in this country is comprised of a great many number of agencies that can operate both dependent or independent of each other. However, within each larger agency are divisions that provide supporting roles and sections that each agency is reliant on in order to run smoothly and accomplish its larger goals. The purpose of this assessment is to examine how the City of San Diego Human Resource (HR) section manages to accomplish its goals, while enabling the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) with high quality men and women, to achieve its objectives. In studying how, a single section can influence an entire department, one can better understand the inner workings of a large agency intended to provide a needed service

There are good days and bad days and that is just how it is no matter where you work. The fact that some situations officers go into can be very tough not just for the victim or others affected but also for the officer it can be physically and mentally excruciating. Whether it could be a violent crime scene or maybe even a situation where children are involved. First responders play a vital role in the safety and health of our community. Putting their own life at risk, these first responders undergo some of the most stressful and life threatening situations as part of their duties. Benedek, Fullerton, and Ursano’s article states that military health care workers, public health service workers, and state, local, and volunteer first responders experience many different effects from their professions such as Acute Stress Disorder (ASD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and much more. They also mentioned the use of population-based interventions and it’s positive effect on the mental wellness of first responders.

There is definitely more stress, both good and bad, in the criminal justice field than most other fields. The good stress is the excitement of catching criminals and helping the public, which is like the good stress of scoring a touchdown in football or hitting a homerun in baseball. The bad stress come from things that those in other fields do not see such as “exposure to murders, numerous car accidents, seeing hurt kids, and other types of secondhand trauma” (Herships, 2015, par. 2). On the job bad stress also comes from the tough administrative policies and procedures that accompany the criminal justice field (Cronkhite, 2013). These stresses can lead to suicide if not kept under control as police officers have a higher suicide

He had hurdled out of my patrol car on the way to the hospital, took off running down the main street, screaming ‘Satan is chasing me God HELP me! Don’t let Satan catch me again!’ all the while he is stripping down to his birthday suit. I can tell you that the mentally ill can be fast and strong when they have these types of episodes.

The conflict in this is are they trained according to policy? Supervisors should be given more autonomy to make some personnel decisions such as helping in the hiring and the appraisal process, but HR should be responsible for the employee training

Correctional institutions are a rapidly expanding throughout the United States unfortunately, and with them comes the individuals on both sides of the bars. The individuals behind the bars are just as important as the ones standing in front of them. Correctional officers are a huge part of the criminal justice system and their mental health and burnout is a serious factor to consider when looking at how important they are to our criminal justice system. Keeping enough officers to deal with the rising amount of offenders is a huge issue within our correctional institutions. Due to the responsibilities correctional officers have may seem to be linked or contribute to the burnout rates seen.

Male officers have also stated negative remarks about female officers who work in Law Enforcement. These barriers have caused female police officers to resign from their positions to avoid any issues and because gender discrimination and the other complaints aren’t taken seriously in Law enforcement. By the females constantly compared to the male police officers has caused stress on them. It’s much harder for woman to advance in Law enforcement than men and when interviewers make their decisions they are more than likely choose men over women. It is important to think critically when dealing with the barriers discussed above because it can be challenging and cause someone to give up and quit.

For instance, stress could lead to stress-induced gastrointestinal problems, irritable bowel syndrome, acidity, acid reflux, insomnia, depression, heart disease. Moreover, stress could push the victim toward high risk behaviour such as smoking, drinking, and substance abuse. Stress-related illness led to increase in absenteeism and attrition affecting the profitability of the organizations. (Kumar & Rooprai, 2009) Stress can be triggered by the pressures of everyday responsibilities at work and at home. Traumatic stress, brought on by war, disaster, or a violent attack, can keep your body’s stress levels elevated far longer than is necessary for survival.

The professional supervision is something where workers are provided with the responsibility from the Organisation to work with each other in meeting up certain personal, professional and Organisational objectives. The aim of supervision is for the workers and employers to get along and conduct face to face meeting in order to evaluate and reflect effective progress within their work practice. While undertaking supervision, it is necessary to explain the total workload of each and every employee, highlight competences, training needs and skills. This gives the chance for discussing any conflicts which the individual might face with other colleague, service user and the way the project is taken under consideration, along with freely allowing
