Niagara Movement

Milam were guiltless of killing Emmett Till, Mamie Till-Mobley was the one receiving hate mail. She stated that “it was the white murderers who felt they were being victimized.” Things shifted in history when in 1909, an organization founded by W.E.B. Du Bois was established. This organization was known as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). They fought for racial equality as well as fighting discrimination in many court cases.

E.D. Nixon helped the Montgomery Bus Boycott in many ways. He once said “The Montgomery boycott was a big thing in a whole lot of people’s lives.” And he was right; for if it wasn’t for the Montgomery bus boycott, African Americans wouldn’t be able to enjoy the freedoms they have today. Edgar Daniel Nixon, otherwise known as E.D. Nixon , was born on July 12, 1899 in Lowndes County, Alabama.

W. E. B Du Bois was also a founding member and leader of the NAACP (NAACP). Du Bois "fought discrimination and racism…and contributed to debates about race, politics and history…through his writings and speeches" (America's Library).

DuBois. He was born in Massachusetts on February 23, 1868, and is well known for fighting for equality and African American recognition in the political field. He had a troubled life as a child and realized that there was no true equality in the world he lived in. He then created the Niagara movement to fight racism and the Jim Crow laws by creating basically a militant force. This led to the creation of the first national African-American organization which petitioned for civil rights of African-Americans, published the newspaper, Voice of the Negro, and planted the seeds for the creation of the NAACP.

1. I currently, take AP Unite States History, and in class we tend to base history on three things. Those three things are: Causation, Comparison, and Continuity and Change over time. With that being said, how did the Niagara Movement cause or influence other Civil Rights organizations or movements to come into existence? Itoro Okokon The NAACP is one of the most known civil right organizations in America and as a whole, it has impacted many of the events in American history. There are many factors that have allowed them to succeed in their endeavors, such as their values and norms and overall culture. They strongly mirror a bureaucracy because they contain an executive board that include many positions seen in governments.

Almost every year hundreds to thousands of African Americans are killed due to police brutality. Over like a hundred of African Americans were killed this year because of police brutality. Everyone who has been a part of police brutality, their families have to go on with life knowing someone really special to them is not in their life anymore. Many families are devastated this year because they have lost a family member or a spouse due to this situation. Many African Americans think that police brutality is not right.

The Civil Rights Movement provided us with many leaders for our young generation to emulate. The NAACP, more distinctly, has granted Black Americans a voice. From its founding in the 20th century by such legends as W.E.B Du Bois and Ida B. Wells, the NAACP has inspired the disenfranchised to speak. They have provided educational opportunities, legal actions, and monetary support for the advancement of our people. Most importantly, the NAACP has taught Black Americans that it is their right to dream.

From Ferguson to Tulsa to Baton Rouge, there have been countless cases of police brutality towards African-American men, women, and children. Murderers never receiving their justice, given paid time off and being cleared of charges. Families living in fear, left torn apart at the hands of people who took an oath to serve and protect. We see people of all races standing together in protest of something we know to be wrong, advocating for much needed social change.
