However, the younger generations tend to put themselves before the group. But still, the group remain prevalent wether it is at work or inside the family, the bonds created inside these groups are quite strong and must be respected. What 's more, Vietnam is considered as a feminine culture, that is to say that quality of life is essential. If a person is placed higher in the hierarchy it implicitly means that they know more than those who are of a lower rank. From that moment on it became impossible to question their authority even if they are wrong. In such a society it is quite difficult to establish bonds with you superior. It is normal to be friendly with your peers and person who shares the same status as you, but being friendly with your boss is unthinkable. Vietname culture, is a culture where an individual 's superior is allowed to act as they want. And even if what they said something which is not appropriate, or if their behavior is not, since they 're the boss they could do whatever they want. If someone try to contractict their power, they can risk to be fired or to be ostracized from the group and as we have seen earlier, Vietnamese is a collectivistic culture as a consequence, not being part of a group, being excluded from one could be quite difficult for an individual. This is even more true when we take into account the fear of judgement that exist in this culture. Vietnamese people tend to be afraid to be wrong, and to be judged because of …show more content…
They should also learn not to stand out from the crowd since Vietnamese culture is quite collectivistic, this could be difficult since French culture is more individualistic. If a French person wished to work there, their competetiveness could be poorly received. A French person should also learn how to negociate, that is to say in case of a conflict, it is important to compromise. Furthermore they should be prepared to take into account the fact that even if Vietnamese are pragmatic about their traditions, they are still prevalent. So, you cannot cast them

The tragedy that is the conflict of two cultures, American medicine and Hmong culture, two goods that lead to inevitable outcomes coupled with a distinct language barrier. This book crucially recounts a poignant and touching tragedy of an immigrant child whose origin is the war torn traditional life of Laos’ mountains and now her home is the Merced town in California. Two disparate cultures essentially collide resulting from language barriers, social customs, and religious beliefs. The recount by Anne Fadiman, an editor at the American scholar, sequentially recounts the clash between the American physicians and the Hmong family and thereby revealing how such differences can have an effect on the attitude towards healing and medicine. During the Vietnam War, another war broke out known as the Laotian Civil War. An organization and communist political movement called “Pathet Lao” from North Vietnam was trying to overthrow the Royal Lao Government. While this was happening the CIA recruited the Hmong led by general Vang Pao, (who were an ancient hill-tribe from the mountains of Laos) as a secret alliance, to help aid the Royal Lao Government. (Batson, 1991, “Birth of Pathet Lao” Para. 16) The United States and Hmongs involvement in this are now what is known as the Secret War, for it was kept a secret by the United States government.

INTRODUCTION There 's so much grey to every story - nothing is so black and white. Same is true for French colonization in Vietnam that lasted more than six decades, being a part of so-called Indochina. The French government created an ideology to justify their expansion in Asia and Africa: “civilizing mission” in order to develop those regions and introduce modern political ideas, social reforms, industrial methods and new technologies.
I’m a Vietnamese immigrant. I came to the U.S in October 18th, 2010. The funny thing is it was my birthday; the day that I felt real loneliness for the first time. It wasn’t an outgoing boy neither in my birth country so it became even harder for me to fit in. So loneliness was my biggest challenge that affected my academic achievement.
Psychologist Irving Janis explained some alarmingly bad decisions made by governments and businesses coined the term "groupthink”, which he called "fiascoes.” He was particularly drawn to situations where group pressure seemed to result in a fundamental failure to think. Therefore, Janis further analyzed that it is a quick and easy way to refer to a mode of thinking people engage in when they are deeply involved in a cohesive in-group, when the members ' striving for unanimity override their motivation to realistically appraise alternative courses of action. According to Janis, groupthink is referred as the psychological drive for consensus at any cost that suppresses disagreement and prevents the appraisal of alternatives in cohesive decision-making groups.
Honestly, it’s very difficult to find a place for me to be accepted as a being of Lao. It 's hard to explain because where I live in a predominantly neighborhood where racism exist on a standard level. Due to my race, some of the people are hesitating to accept me for who I am. However, I had an opportunity from my parent to influence me toward understand Lao culture and tradition. Therefore, for me being a member of the Laotian-American makes me feel a sense of appreciation of my race.
I was raised in a traditional Vietnamese household where the sharp, lingering taste of bitter melon was a treat, family was everything, and everyone spoke Vietnamese. However, I lived in a community where speaking English was the majority and I was very clearly, a minority. There were hardly any other people who spoke Vietnamese where I lived. Because of this, I slowly lost my grasp with the Vietnamese language and my ability to communicate with my family This was terrifying for me; as a result, I have made efforts to learn and speak Vietnamese even though it sounds horrendous because I still have a voice and want to be heard.
During the age of exploration France was one of the biggest countries to imperialize in the 1800. France desired control of some Indochina for money, resources and labour. France unfortunately cared less about the lives that where spent and more about the resources. For this reason the native people of Indochina suffered greatly at the hands of French imperialism.

Cultures with high power distance accept an unequal distribution of power and the fact that “some members have greater resources and influence than others”(p.50). When James Carter speaks to his boss, it seems that they are equal in power. James does not afraid to say what he thinks, and even the call the one with higher position by his name. The American always expects egalitarianism so it will be great if there ia not formalized hierarchical structure in community and social relationship. However, in China, it is different, relationships are hierarchical in terms of age, political status, wealth and so on.
