The American Revolution lasted six years and the impacts of it were everlasting(Schultz, 2010). The effects were felt by every group of people in North America and many worldwide. Even though George Washington had all of his troops vaccinated against smallpox, the colonists were not so fortunate and as a results some estimates are that as many as one hundred and thirty thousand people died from this dreaded disease. This loss of life combined with the divisions among the colonies into those loyal to Britain and those who wanted freedom would forever change the way of life for the colonists. Possibly the group of people most significantly impacted by the American Revolution was to the slave population of North America. Before the American Revolution, not much thought was given to the contradiction of fighting Britain for freedom and owning a man as property. After the American Revolution, the northern colonies started to see the irony in the two policies and made it legal to manumit their slaves(Shultz, 2010). These freed slaves congregated in the Chesapeake region to form colonies as free people. This made it easier for slaves from the south to escape and blend into the Chesapeake colonies of …show more content…
Unlike the blacks, that were better off after the war; the Native Americans, in most cases, were worse off after the war(Gaksu, 2015). The majority of Native Americans fought on the side of the British because it was widely believed that they would win the war and the British promised the native Americans their own land after the victory. At the end of the war, even though the Native Americans fought in the war, they were not invited to the talks and therefore had no influence as to how the land was divided. The tribes were decimated during the war, due to battle and illness, and now they had no land to call their
The American Revolution was one of the most important wars that was fought in the history of the United States. The Patriots and the British had two different views on how things should be run in America. Many people have different opinions on why, where and how the war was started. There were a few key battles that helped to influence the outcome of the war. The outcome of the American Revolutionary War influenced the United States way of Freedom and the way the American people live today.
In the late 1600’s, many European settlers arrived in North America in hopes of escaping the hardships they faced back home. America initially promised colonists the wealth, religious freedom, and escape from oppression they desired. New England was home to dense forests, and hills which was not optimal for crop growth. Therefore, the colonists directed their attention towards trade and commerce. The people in this region were devoutly religious and believed in the education of children.
This was the point in time when everything in America became recognized. At this time, everything began to fall into place. The Europeans were establishing colonies, laws were passed, treaties were signed, and friendships were made. This time is called the colonial period. Native Americans were the first to live in America.
Before the westward movement, the concept of race was essentially black and white. Literally. No one thought of what was in between, what was gray. It wasn’t til people began moving towards the west when other races started to add to the equation more adequately. As the packet says, “The diversity of the West put a strain on the simpler varieties of racism.”
While the American Revolution was long and suffering it carried a significance on each of the following groups differently (Schultz, K., 2013). While the war killed as many as 25,000, other deaths were caused from disease and the smallpox epidemic. The total amount of deaths that occurred during this time was around 70,000. The colonist were divided up between the ones that were loyal to the British crown, the rebels who rebelled against the crown and the one’s that were indifferent to either side which included many of the individuals living in the colonies (Pettinger, T., 2017). The war took the colonists away from their families and disrupted their daily lives for extended periods of time.
From colonial times until the end of the Indian Wars in 1890, the people in America went through a series of unfair and unfortunate events. Mainly for the Indians which are also called the first peoples. These events could have been handled with much more consideration for the Indians. There are many times when the Americans went too far including the Removal Act of 1830, the Reservation System, and the Act for the Government and Protection of Indians.
Since the colonists got all this new land in the Ohio River Valley they started expanding west. The natives did not like the colonists moving on to their land without their permission. The natives started attacking the colonists who were on their land and they started asking the government for help but got none. Also, when the french left, they left forts throughout the land and British soldiers started moving into them.
I am writing this letter to tell you that me and couple of the men of the ship are doing fine, some of our men have died from hunger and from the ship crash that we’ve had recently, and here I am with the men in an island being welcomed by the native indians that helped us through. The native indians are extremely welcoming people in my point of view, they helped us when the ship crashed, they gave us food, water, and shelters for us to live in since we didn't have anything anymore. The native americans are the opposite of what I thought, when I saw them after the crash I thought they would kill us and sacrifice us to their gods, when actually they are celebrating and trying to fill us with happiness, instead of thinking about our lost of the ship. They are emotionally understanding people of what I've seen, they felt our sorrow and sadness of losing our ship from the recent occurring hurricane that led us to this island.
In that case, the American Revolution was very revolutionary because there were political, social, and economic changes. Wealthy people lost their money, there was a new government, it made citizens question slavery, and certainly more freedom for the Americans. The American Revolution resulted in the establishment of an independent nation; British colonists became American citizens. That was a vast change in U.S history.
During the 1700s America and it’s 13 colonies made a bold decision to revolt from Great Britain and become their own independent nation. This started a revolution that would forever change the way Americans would live. The War of Independence or better known as the American Revolution, consisted of the 13 colonies of America trying to gain independence from Great Britain and on July 4th 1776, America finally decided to declare their independence. Many say the revolution paved the way for many other great changes to take place, while others believed not a lot was impacted due to the revolution. This raises the question, “How Revolutionary was the American Revolution?”
American Revolution DBQ The American Revolution changed American society politically, socially, and economically, as the American colonists overcame their differences and broke away from British rule. During the American revolution, Americans began to develop different political views than that of their European counterparts. Following the Revolution, the Americans created a new type of national government, a republic.
The American Revolution brought independence to slaves, colonists, Native Americans, and women. The Revolutionary War made the United States and France allies go against Great Britain. France made a choice to assist the United States military until they received independence from Great Britain. The Revolution had a huge part in slavery, such as bringing conflict between slavery and liberty because the North prohibited slavery. The South did not believe that slavery should be abolished.
Impact of American Revolution through time Almost all aspects of the lives of Americans were somehow affected by the spirit of the American Revolution. The attitudes of American people towards religious life, women’s rights, voting and slavery were changed forever because of it. There was a drastic change in social and political life after independence.
Throughout the 19th century Native Americans were treated far less than respectful by the United States’ government. This was the time when the United States wanted to expand and grow rapidly as a land, and to achieve this goal, the Native Americans were “pushed” westward. It was a memorable and tricky time in the Natives’ history, and the US government made many treatments with the Native Americans, making big changes on the Indian nation. Native Americans wanted to live peacefully with the white men, but the result of treatments and agreements was not quite peaceful. This precedent of mistreatment of minorities began with Andrew Jackson’s indian removal policies to the tribes of Oklahoma (specifically the Cherokee indians) in 1829 because of the lack of respect given to the indians during the removal laws.
The American Revolution (1700-1790) was a historical event in time, where the Thirteen Colonies that became the United States of America, gained independence from the British Empire. Many historians would agree that the Revolution was caused by events and the growing differences between the colonists and England. The cause of the American Revolution could be summarized in the saying ‘liberty vs. tyranny’. The American Revolution was a struggle by liberty-loving Americans to free themselves from a dictatorial British rule. In this period, the Colonies protested against the British Empire and entered into the American Revolutionary War, also known as the American War of Independence.
