I, Lanie Breitbach, am honored to be among the group of students who are being considered for the National Honors Society. I have had many opportunities and privileges in my lifetime as part of the New Hampton community. First, I have the privilege of being Rick and Ruth Breitbach's daughter. Being the daughter of a local farmer has given me the opportunity to learn about our community from an agricultural standpoint. Like many of my peers, I have been given the opportunity to pick rock, work with livestock, and be a laborer during the planting and harvest season. Experiencing work in this kind of setting has opened my eyes to how farming comes together to make our community in Iowa a great place to live. I had the opportunity to go …show more content…
Teaching the different levels and watching the children improve was a rewarding experience for me. Refereeing for soccer and being an umpire for little league baseball and softball taught me discipline and leadership with children and parents. At the CWC, I enjoy the opportunity to assist and communicate with people in the community striving for a healthier lifestyle. I enjoy volunteering in the community and working with people of all ages. I find it is very gratifying to know that when we all work together for a common cause, the outcome is beneficial to people in our community. These experiences in the New Hampton community have created and strengthened my values of hard work, academic success through education, and community participation. As an eager young person, I believe these are the key factors in having a career and being successful in life. I know that many of my peers share my enthusiasm for success and the New Hampton community has a history of strengthening young people to become successful adults. I also know the difficult decision that is before this committee in making the choice for those whom will be selected into this year’s National Honors Society, this decision will require both thought and hard consideration. If I am one so chosen, I pledge to live up to that honor and continue to strive to be a strong representative of our school and

Throughout this past week, thanks to Alabama Action, I have discovered the true meaning of a “servant’s heart” and discovered that when like-minded people get together, we can make a huge impact on the community. Servitude is something that is incredibly close to my heart and this week was the perfect introduction to all that the UA Honors College has to offer to help find ways to leave my mark. Coming into this week, we were just a large group of kids from every corner of the country – joined only by our desire to serve and our love for the University of Alabama. But, in just a few short days, we became a community of thinkers, leaders, and dreamers who formed bonds that will last throughout these next few years and beyond.

Speech for NJHS Induction Ceremony Good evening students, faculty, and family members! Thank you, Mrs. Reece and Principal King, for inviting me to this year’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony. Every week I spend time at the Morristown Medical Center as a volunteer, where I am able to help keep things functioning in the hospital at the highest speed possible and hopefully brighten a few patients’ days. Also, I’ve enjoyed helping refereeing youth basketball games for the past two seasons and being able to talk with the kids. It is a great opportunity to give back to a program which gave me so much in the five years I played in it when I was younger. Furthermore, I am excited for even more opportunities to have an impact on my community which being a part of National Honor Society would aid in.
