My Leadership Philosophy

The ultimate goal should be the success of others. A good leader doesn’t care about personal gain or accolades and achievements they can get, but the well being of their followers. A good leader is one who, not only speaks with words, but with actions as well. Attributes of a good leader entail a person who knows their strengths and weaknesses, so, when the time is necessary, they know when to lead and know when to back down.

For a person to find his or her path in the world and to lead others effectively, one need to develop a clear vision of what she or he is aiming to accomplish and be able to communicate that vision with others to gain support. However, each person has a different vision and as a leader one’s personal vision, influence the kind of the personal leadership philosophy; he or she has. Leadership is something that every collective society will need regardless of its make-up. I try to lead in the things I am able to. Being a leader is more than just bossing people around and getting what you want all of the time, it is understanding the needs of all the people involved and creating progress for the good of all. Leadership is not always easy, especially when no one in a group views a situation remotely the same. I attended a school where there was very little diversity in terms of race but, very typical of other types of diversity.

While there are several different types of leaders and manners in which individuals try to lead, the most effective leaders typically all have very similar characteristic traits. Now, another question arises. What makes a leader good? What is the importance of leading? Moreover, leadership skills being a part of PDP allows students to recognize their true potential in the classroom and compare if they have the same influence on people elsewhere.

For years, there have been many leadership ideas and theories which has been the source of intensive studies. The three major leadership ideas/theories that I have learned are the Behavioral Theory, the Contingency Theory, and the, Transactional Leadership Theory. The Behavioral theories of leadership focus on the behaviors of a leader. In this theory, a leader’s behavior is a gauge of their influences and as a result, is a good indicator of his or her leadership success.

The truth is that there is no "magic combination" of characteristics that makes a leader successful, and different characteristics matter in different circumstances. This doesn 't mean, however, that you can 't learn to be an effective leader.
