Migration DBQ The United States of America has, and will always be, a country where immigrants and refugees can migrate to, internally and internationally, to vastly improve their lives. During the late 19th century in the US, there was a massive influx of immigrants from all over the world, as well as movement of people already living in the US to different areas. These people were primarily seeking better job opportunities due to numerous economic issues in foreign countries and social tensions in the post-Reconstruction US.

Many people are raised up by the idea that the society they live in always needs more adjustment, and other people around them are not always friendly. I am also one of those people. Since I was little, I was taught by my father not to trust anyone around, and not to pay too much effort into any kind of relationship. Even though I might not necessarily agree with him, I still followed his advice for years. However, I always ended up feeling lonely and depressed.

I can remember it like it was yesterday. My parents left me when I was fifteen years old to go to America. I thought to myself for one year, they left me here to starve, live, and die alone in eastern Europe. When I was sixteen years old I got ready to move to America and start a new life.

On January 5th , 1988 , my mother, Rosita Rancharan immigrated to the U.S from a small city in Belize named Corozal. Although she was married and had a teaching job that kept her economically stable, when her papers came out she decided to immigrate to America because she saw greater economic opportunity. At the time she was building a house with her husband , but she did not want to take out loans to build it. Originally she had just come here to stay for a couple of months so that she could send money back home to her husband to help build their house. But eventually she became more adjusted to living here and decided to stay here and build a foundation.

My life took an interesting turn when my mother told me I would be moving to a different country, fear took over my body because that meant I would have to start from zero. On January 1st, 2011 my mom gave me the exciting news that her fiancée, now husband, had started the process to bring her to the United States so she could become a permanent resident, live with him, form a family and start a brand new life. I remember her face blighting up to every time she spoke a word but that smile faded once she told me I could not come with at that time because of the expense of the process. I understood why she could not bring me with. We had economic and emotional issues going on.

Traveling to a country much different from one’s home can be life changing. Recently having traveled to a small community in Costa Rica, my life has been changed. I experienced a culture unlike my everyday experience. I realized the major difference between what is needed and what is wanted. This experience challenged me to think about my own personal values and beliefs and ultimately changed my world view.

For as long as I can remember, my childhood was one memorable aspect of my life. My environment motivated me to be a survivor and adapt into whatever situation I found myself in because of the constant movement that happened in the busy city I grew up in. I was born and raised in the western part of one of the biggest countries in Africa known as Nigeria, a pretty large state known as Lagos. I resided in a popular city known as “Ikeja”. It was a busy place where every person had to worry about their means of survival because as much as the city had its positive sides, the negative sides took a lot from the citizens because of the corrupt government.

When I was six years old, living in Ethiopia, my dad won an American green card visa lottery among 53,000 people. Although it was exciting news, family members were discouraged because my dad could not afford the visa processing and traveling expense. However, he found a sponsor in Seattle, which allowed him to settle in America. As soon as he found a good house and a stable job, he started the process for me and my family. Multiple errors and obstacles delayed our processing for five years.

When making a permanent move to a new location it is known as migration, but what triggers this movement? It all relates to push and pull factors of why one may move or leave to a new country/territory/state. The factors that contribute to this is through economic, political, cultural, and environmental. Since the 1820’s till now there has been a big move of US citizens to California but lets dig deeper as to exactly what may have influenced them to make this move.

TITLE Migration is a vastly broad term; it is mainly associated with the movement of humans from one place to another usually permanently but can be temporary. There are reasons for this action to happen and those are what push people away from a certain place and attract them from the opposite place. There are factors of migrations and these differ from each but are always the reason of migration happening. • Economic • Political • Environmental •

My mind takes me back to a time when I woke up to the aroma of food from street vendors through the homes that sit in a tightly compacted neighborhood. I remember growing up as a young boy in an area referred to as “La Laguna” in Mexico. This city was dry in rainfall levels and hope, my family were in the pursuit of an improved standard of living when they decided they wanted to move to the United States. Temporary living on the border made it tempting to go across a bridge and never come back. I saw America as elysium and Mexico as fool’s paradise, where the violence was rare and financial stability was so common.

At the age of____, I left everything behind in Armenia and migrated into the United States of America to start a new life. Even though I love my paternal land and do not forget where I come from, the fact that I could pursue a career and become a productive member of the society encouraged me to move to America. To my great misfortune, I was persecuted for being politically active in my own country and I could no longer fight with the authorities for violating my civil rights. I had the potential of facing more dangerous situations than I was already in at the time. I am my parent’s first child

As I ponder over my life, each memory seems identical to the other, and I find myself drifting through a reality of similar events that generate the same memories and emotions. Looking back further into my childhood includes memories of my homeland. I remember entering a new world at the age of five, where all of my later memories would be formed. This was when my family moved to the United States from Peru, my native country in the South. The complete change in culture and values truly impacted me when I first moved to Florida, and I reflect over the significant effect it has had on my character during the last thirteen years of my life.

Living in a potent economic country, immigrants like us have found more chances of employment from low skilled level to professional level with increased salary. We can get better pay compared to what we can get in our country. The dollar value is also much higher and more stable than many other countries’ currency which gives us a chance to support relatives still residing back in our native land. Finally, we come to the United States because we have our families already residing here and we desire to be reunited with them.

Moving to a new country can be difficult sometimes. Leaving all my relatives and friends back home was the saddest thing for me. My mother told me that we were moving to a new country. At first, I thought my mother was joking about it. but little did I know that she was telling the truth.
