Michelangelo Buonarroti was born in Caprese, Tuscany on March 6, 1475. He was the second of five brothers. As his mother was greatly ill and frail, he was given to a wet nurse who lived in a family of stonecutters. Even though he was very young, he loved the idea of stonecutting, the craft of hammer and chisel. However, when he told his father of his wishes, his father was enraged as he thought that an artist’s life was one full of labor. Sadly, his mother soon passed away, and the boy was only six years old. This and other past events made life very grim and sad for him. He had to maintain a taciturn disposition, which eventually made him very thin-skinned and fierce. As Michelangelo grew older, it was clear to his father that he was a very intelligent boy. Immediately, his father sent Michelangelo to a man named Francesco Galeota who taught the boy grammar. During his time studying the principles of Latin, he became great friends with Francesco Granacci, a boy six years older than him. At the time, Francesco was also the apprentice of the master painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. When the boy heard that Michelangelo loved art despite his father, he encouraged Michelangelo to follow his dreams. With Francesco’s help, he became another apprentice of Domenico. …show more content…
As a result, the boy was often punished for learning art. However, his father eventually gave in when Domenico and his brother paid father and son for Michelangelo’s artwork. After a while, he did not get along well with Domenico, so he left to study art at the sculpture school of Bertoldo di Giovanni. Bertoldo was great friends of the art curator Lorenzo de’ Medici, “the Magnificent.” As Michelangelo continued to practice, his works became better and better until it even impressed Lorenzo. Finally, at the age of sixteen, he created two of his best artworks: the Battle of the Centaurs and Madonna of the

Even though this only lasted a short amount of time Michelangelo learned the fundamentals of fresco painting from Ghirlandaio and these skills helped him when it came to painting the Sistine Chapel. Leonardo Da Vinci was among just a handful of the most highly skilled artists and minds of all time. Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy and would become known later in life as the “Renaissance man” for the remarkable artwork he would create. Leonardo would never enroll into a school and was taught basic English and mathematics at home for only several years in his early childhood. Later in his childhood, Leonardo would indulge in an apprenticeship with artist Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence, where he would learn a wide variety of commoner skills such as leather arts, carpentry, drawing, painting, sculpting and metal work. The first of many artworks by Leonardo would arrive in 1473, of a landscape drawing he called “Arno Valley”.
Even at a young age, Leonardo was clearly extraordinary. He was not only skilled in art but also had noticeable interpersonal social skills and was musically talented. When Da Vinci was born, his father, Ser Piero Da Vinci was twenty-five. If this moment in history happened in the twenty first century, he would be charged and tossed in jail for pedophilia. Later throughout Leonardo da Vinci’s life, he received little formal education, but even from a very early age, his artistic ability has shown immensely. When Leonardo was fifteen, Ser Piero Da Vinci apprenticed him to Andrea Del Verrocchio (1435-1488), who was a remarkable sculptor, painter, and goldsmith (one who works with golden jewelry). There, Michelangelo was exposed to different art techniques in which he became famous for and an expert at. After moving to Florence, Michlangelo had a great success at his artwork. “He learned the ways of sculpting from great architects; also, with a permission from the Pope, he had a chance to learn about the human body from using cadavers” .
He was a great artist, but he became famous because he was able to do so many other things. He was an architect, a musician, inventor, sculptor, scientist, and mathematician.
