Born in January 1929, Martin Luther King Jr. grew up to become one of the world's most-known civil rights activists, tremendously changing America for the better. As an African American, Martin Luther King Jr. experienced immense hatred in America during the civil rights movement. Little did he know that he would grow up to be one of the most influential civil rights activists in the world. Some of his great achievements include leading the Montgomery bus boycott, founding the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and helping organize the March on Washington for jobs and freedom.

Martin Luther King once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” This quote analyzes that people can’t get rid of hatred by hating more but, by love and the hate will vanish. He was an activist that made a significant impact on the world and especially America because he fought for his cause when segregation was an important thing in the US. A big time that he stood up for his and a lot of colored people's rights was at the Selma to Montgomery march in 1965 and this was an important protest because it was a bunch of people fighting for the right to vote. Also, Martin Luther King got shot on April 4, 1968, in a hotel at 6:05 when he was standing outside on the balcony of his hotel room. James Earl Ray was the guy that shot him, and he did it because he thought that the colored should not have any rights and he did not like that he was making change in the US. Martin Luther King supports this quote because he fought for years and years and he finally got what he was working for.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a man that was willing to do anything to end segregation of the white and black people. He would be the man to dare and break the unjust law that was set upon colored people. He would do so by not promoting violence or any acts of harm toward others. Kings states, "One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.

But when he rallied people to action, he called them specifically to non-violent action. He was passionate to see the conditions of his people improve, but he was not willing to further the pain that had already carried on too long through slavery and war. King spoke strongly against violence with sayings such as, “Violence must not come from any of us, and if we become victimized with violent acts or intent, the pending daybreak of progress will be transformed into a gloomy midnight of retrogress.” and, “We cannot win with violence—it is immoral. It is also impractical…

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Was a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement. First, MLK Jr cared strongly about having equal rights. This is because He was apart and led many peaceful protests for equality for everyone. Next, Martin Luther King Jr was famous for his actions.

He insisted that love and God’s law were above all other things. Through his public speaking he spoke of nonviolent actions towards others who would harm blacks, he would also challenge the wrongs that the society was doing by having protest marches, boycotts and sit-ins, and all of this was done without the use of violence. One of his most famous civil rights act was the March on Washington, this showed the different views of Martin Luther king Jr and Malcolm X, this march happened in a time where there was a lot of violence but Martin Luther King still did not act out but instead he wanted all races to come together and try to put all of the violence and hatred to an end. As the civil rights movement went on Martin Luther king ideology became even better. In some of his writings and speeches he explained why Christian people and all of the members of society had a moral obligation to get over the limitations of the man-made laws that they had set before them.

King had several different ideals and goals that he wished to ingrain into Americans and society. King’s main goal was to end racial discrimination and transform society into a loving, tolerant, and peaceful culture (3). Dr. King believed in the power of love, and preached love and nonviolence as the normal upholding of the universe. He adamantly encouraged people to not fight with violence but to continue to stand for what they believe in no matter what. He also insisted upon individuality and uniqueness of all people so as to prevent people from discriminating and judging based on racial prejudices (4).

Martin Luther King Jr was an African American minister, his dream was to bring peace to all races and colors all around the world and for them to be civilized together. Not only did Martin Luther King Jr. want equality for all people of color, he also wanted his kids to live in a society that was civilized with peace between blacks and whites. His father was a Baptist minister, as was his grandfather, and Martin Luther grew up to be the third minister in the family. He was a bright and intelligent young man, being the valedictorian in his high school class, attending college, and earning a doctorate degree. Of course, Martin experienced racial segregation throughout his lifetime, which led him to become involved in the civil rights movement. Influenced by Gandhi’s actions in India, he led many peaceful protests, such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, in hopes of ending segregation. Martin Luther King believed in racial and ethical equality, nonviolent protests, and love and peace.

Martin Luther King was a Civil Rights activist. He spoke on behalf of millions of African-Americans around the nation in search of a complete freedom. He spoke on behalf of African-Americans who wanted to sit in the same place as their white peers, speak without getting that glare only a white supremacist could give when in the presence of a minority, have laws that protected them like the laws that protected the majority did. In his marches, and public papers and letters, King spoke of theses injustices. In his Letter from Birmingham Jail, King describes just and unjust laws.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a strong political leader who discussed the segregation of African Americans. MLK also was a minister and Noble Prize winner; he was also a leader in The National Association of Colored People (NAACP). Many African Americans opened up to what he had to say and followed his strategies of a nonviolent act in the Civil Rights Movement. MLK was one of the most important black leaders in his era where not only did he touch the hearts of many blacks but also grew to have many enemies with whites and other leaders who didn't agree in his nonviolent strategies and beliefs.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights activist. He would often speak out about unjust issues. Dr. King would inspire people through his speeches and actions against segregation. He was known by everyone and has gone down in history as one of the greatest activists of all time. His words brought hope to the African American community.

One of the rhetorical devices that was key was his persona. His persona showed his followers that with patience and persistence change will come.
