Comparative Essay Throughout both these dystopian stories, ideas of oppression and manipulation are shown. Leaders appear to have complete control and power which is often misused. As both The Matrix and Animal Farm progress, this power and control is altered and changed. The Matrix is a film about an artificial reality created for humans to live in. The Wachowskis write the machines as mighty beings that believe the human race is just a plague on the planet. This is shown during the film by their tendency to do things alone and use humans for their dirty work, “Lieutenant, you were given specific orders”.The filmmovie's plot is driven by the struggle for power between the machines and humans who are aware of the simulation. The machines use their power and control to manipulate humanity into a state of ignorance and servitude. They do this by keeping humans trapped in a virtual existence.
