Making Decisions: The United States Congress

The legislative branch creates laws for the United States citizens to follow. The legislative branch has bicameral structure with the branch being made of the Senate and the House of Representatives. This branch is known as the people's branch due to the fact that the citizens of the U.S. elect each branch member. The members of each branch has a different term limit, the House of Representatives have a two year term limit and the Senate has a longer term of six years. The legislative branch has the control of the national budget.

1. The role of the Congress is to enact legislation, approve treaties and foreign policy related budget spending. It has equal power to the President, although their respective influence varies over time. 2. Congressional Accommodation refers to the moments in which the Congress cooperates with the President, allowing him to exercise more power in foreign politics.

The legislative branch is one of the most powerful branches of government, in charge of making and enacting laws. Article one consist of ten sections, in which they describe the powers granted by the constitution to Congress. Section One states that the legislative powers of the Constitution are vested in the Congress, which is composed of the House and Senate. This section is crucial because it is the foundation and structure for the entire legislative body of the United States.

Legislative Branch is the most interesting branch! The Legislative Branch includes, House of Representatives and the Senate. Which forms the United States Congress. Senate is up for reelection every two years. The House of Representatives is made up of 435 elected members.

The Congress is the supreme potent branch in the US, holds the agendas of the government. The two major political parties in the US Congress are The Republican and the Democratic Party with the Democratic Party comprising of 188 seats and the Republicans 246 seats. The Congress performs functions such as, representation of the people, law making, oversight performance, ensuring the public is fully educated and serving their constituents. Several factors have made it difficult for the democrats and Republicans in the congress to expressive a rational political outline.

A central question that encapsulates this debate is, “Why is Congress dysfunctional?” An implied corollary to this question also seeks to investigate if this perception is harmful to American democracy and if damaged beyond repair. This essay seeks to contribute to the debate of Congressional dysfunction. A critical element of this debate is ascertaining who is responsible for determining if Congress is dysfunctional. In the scope of this essay, I will argue the American electorate is final adjudicator of Congressional dysfunction.

This branch of government is composed of “the House of Representatives and the Senate, which together form the United States Congress”. (The Legislative Branch) In the legislative branch, many major decisions are made, such as the declaration of war or the passing of laws. Since the founding fathers made the legislative branch the most powerful, that made this branch responsible for overlooking the other two branches. This is an example of checks and balances.

Each branch held a different duty and responsibility. The legislative branch includes both houses of Congress: the Senate and the House of Representatives and its job is to create laws. The laws then passed to the Executive branch which headed by the president where they are approved or rejected. The approved laws are enforced by the Judicial branch which consists of the supreme court and the lower federal court where they interprets the laws. These three branches are not entirely separated nor completely of one another.

The House to represent the population of each state and the Senate to represent each state equally.[1] People can claim this is not fair since this setup will not represent the majority fully. People can claim that this does not fully represent the majority but others can argue this also protects their interest and not be bull dozed by the majority. In order to become a Representative, one must be: over 25 years old, been a US citizen for 7 years, and length of the term is 2 years.

To begin, the Senate and the House of Representatives, while having some similarities, also contain many differences. These responsibilities consist of: declaring war, borrowing money, regulating and making laws for money use, and to advise many appointments for the president. There are many factors which sway how the members of congress vote. These factors include party affiliation, reelection, as well as individual political beliefs. Currently, California leads the house with 53 representatives. The states with small populations are guaranteed at least one representative. The House of Representatives under the umbrella of the Constitution has the power to do certain things that the Senate cannot. The House is responsible for initiating spending bills; also, the house has the sole authority to impeach officials for misconduct or illegal dealings. The House also has the exclusive authority to select the president in the event of an Electoral College stalemate.
