Compare/Contrast Essay This essay is going to be comparing the tragedy that William Shakespeare wrote called Macbeth to Saul from the Old Testament. Macbeth is a dark and very bloody play where the main character Macbeth explores illusions, witchcraft, and more. Macbeth is a brave Scottish general who receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become the king of Scotland one day. The themes of both Macbeth and the story of King Saul are ambition, guilt and power Saul, also known as King Saul, was the first king of Israel. He was anointed as king by the prophet Samuel, who was instructed by God to find a new leader to bring together and govern the tribes of Israel. Samuel chose Saul because of his great physical stature and leadership skills. Despite being a great king and leader of his army, Saul's reign was plagued multiple times. He disobeyed God's commands a handful of times which led to the loss of his favor. Not only that, but it also led to the eventual downfall of his kingdom. Once David had started to become popular, Saul began to have a growing jealousy of him. David was a young warrior who had won many battles for Israel and was loved by the people of Israel. In the play, Macbeth was encouraged by his ambitious wife to kill King Duncan and take the throne. However, his guilt and craziness drive him to commit more murders including his friend Banquo and his very own family. As Macbeth's tyranny grows, he gradually becomes more isolated and haunted by guilt and visions. Towards the end of the play, Macbeth is defeated in battle and gets killed by Macduff. Similarly, Saul died during a battle against the Philistines. Along with three of his sons, he was killed in the battle on Mount Gilboa. He decided the best solution was to have him killed. However, fortunately for David, Saul had a son who knew about his plans, Jonathan, who respected David, and warned him about his father's cruel plans. David escaped as fast as he could. Later he decided to work for the Philistine king, and become a vassal. Unfortunately not many were faithful in his loyalty to the Philistines, and David was not meant to come to battle against Saul.
Compare and Contrast Macbeth and Film Act 1 scene 1: The 3 witches recited a spell or curse right away instead of starting with the first line in the play, “When shall we meet again..” (Shakespeare, 302). The second version we watched was less dramatic than the 1948 movie.

The Tragedy of Macbeth is a well known story that revolves around the word “ambition” but this ambition isn’t always self driven by someone, but rather through the influence of someone else who maintains control of the situation. The story is about a man whose desire to be the king and have power leads to the murders of those who might stand in his way. Throughout the story we see many characters who play major parts in how one event follows another, and how some characters seem to completely have control of the events in the story. Although in Macbeth the Three Sisters and Macbeth exhibit some control over the events, Lady Macbeth has the most responsibility.
As individuals, we have a certain degree of control over our own lives and the decisions we make. While external factors such as social pressure, cultural norms, and personal circumstances can influence us, ultimately, we have agency in choosing how we respond to those factors. Both have their own scenario and we will compare how both protagonists for both novel fight the evil that triumphs in their life’s. for the novel ‘Macbeth’ the protagonist is Macbeth and the protagonist for ‘To kill a mocking bird’ is Atticus both will be compared on how big of an impact was created by their decision and how they face evil.

This is an included facet to Macbeth as well, having sinister themes of greed, manipulation, and brutality. Macbeth, by the infamous playwright, Shakespeare, presents us with multiple aspects factoring into whether the main character controls his actions that lead to the tragic events.
William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, the main character; Macbeth, is seen as an evil character. The play is based off of Macbeth’s decisions and his actions to become King. In the beginning Macbeth starts out as a hero in Scotland’s war with Ireland and towards the end he is transformed into a murderer. Macbeth is not wholly evil because of is heroism in the war, his love for Scotland, and because he didn’t want to kill King Duncan initially. Macbeth was brain washed by his wife and tricked into killing the King.

Lady Macbeth is shown, as a character that schemes into making rebellious plots. She reveals the desire for wanting to lose her feminine qualities in order to be able to gain more masculine ones.
Macbeth and Banquo were seen as relatively similar individuals who acted with nobility. At the beginning, they both were loyal military leaders who fought hard for their king and their country. However, after their encounter with the Three Weird Sisters, they began to show their differences through the actions they make in regards to prophecies they were given. Macbeth and Banquo were both heroic, noble and brave leaders who led their armies to victory numerous of times. They were loyal subjects to the king, and they lived their lives continuously fighting for him as well as the country.
