Louis Zamperini's Legacy

1. Louis Zamperini was born in January 1917, in Olean, New York. Raised in California, Zamperini joined the track team in high school. Excelling at long-distance events, Zamperini competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics and was set to compete again in the 1940 games in Tokyo, which were cancelled when World War II had struck. A bombardier in the Army Air Corps, Zamperini was in a plane that went down, and when he arrived on shore in Japan 47 days later, he was taken as a prisoner of war and tortured for two years.

In 1950, Louie began to visit his tormentors to forgive them in person. , however, when he tried to forgive Watanabe in person, the Bird refused to meet with him. Just four days out from his 81st birthday, Louie ran the Olympic torch in the 1998 winter olympics in Nagano Japan as a way to show that he had forgiven Japan for what they had done to him. On July 2, 2014, Louis Zamperini died of Pneumonia at the age of 97 in his home. There are many memorials and places named for him including the Zamperini Stadium at Torrance High School.

During World War ll, only 27 % of POWs held in the Japanese Camps did not survive incarceration. Louie Zamperini,however, did, but it wasn't easy for him and the POWs at the camps. Louie Zamperini spent most of his time in World War ll as a POW, or Prisoner Of War in the Japanese camps. While being a prisoner he faced many challenges. American POWs that were held captive by the Japanese in the deadliest camps face dehumanization and isolation in many forms and once enough is enough they resist in order to get their dignity back.

What is a hero? A hero is someone who stands up in there rights and beliefs for good. Three heros are Miep Gies,Harriet Tubman,and Jackie Robinson. She doesn't care that theres a chance of her getting caught she does the right thing and helps.

What is a hero? A hero is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. There are many people who meet the characteristics of a hero, but Chris McCandless is not one of them. There are many reasons that prove why McCandless does not meet the characteristics of a hero and there is many other people who do meet the criteria of a hero. My idea of a hero is a someone who takes on large tasks and shows great bravery in his/her character.

From moving 800 miles from her family and everyone she knew to get treated for her disease to her husband dying and leaving her and her two year old son alone.

A famous actor Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Being heroic does not always mean you’re special or well known. Since a hero shows determination, it drives them to help others and go beyond what’s expected of them. Heroes are people who go beyond expectations.

A hero is a person one admires because of the qualities and selfless actions they exemplify to overcome adversity and inspire others. Heroism is apparent in literature, history, and in our own life.

A hero is anyone who makes the right decision to sacrifice for a person in need. For example, without heroes like firemen, wildfires and house fires would spread across the nation, costing lives and loss of worldly possessions. Firemen stand strong, risk themselves, and protect all for the well-being, safety of others, and personal property. In addition,

Zamperini and three other men survived the crash. They got onto rafts and sailed 1,000 miles away from the crash spot into Japanese waters where they got abducted by the Japanese.
