Animation refers to the creation of the sequence of images drawn, painted, or produced by other artistic methods that change over time portray the illusion of motion. Animators are artists who specialize in the creation of animation. Animation has 2D and 3D, for 2 dimensional figures are created or edited on the computer using 2D bitmap graphics or created and edited using 2D vector graphics. This includes automated computerized versions of traditional animation techniques, for 3 dimensional is digitally modeled and manipulated by an animator. Throughout my childhood, classical fairytales always had the strangest realities, as the writer’s dreamscape is painted onto the big screen, which fascinated me. These mysterious worlds were created directly from pure imagination and creativity. Jim Henson’s nostalgic 1982 film the “Dark Crystal” contained a world full of magical, surreal vibes which, came to life by the use of animatronics, breaking the standards of film while simultaneously creating new ones. Watching this film as a child none of the themes related more to me than the whimsical beauty and the idea of good and evil of the fairytale. As I got older, I began to gain a deeper understanding of the movie.

As one of four great classical novels in China, Journey to the West has been interpreted and represented in forms of script for story-telling, poetic drama, novel, traditional Chinese opera and film during the long cultural history (CHEN 1). With the carriers of film and television program, doing visualization to classical texts is the most distinctive representing way in modern times. This paper presents how to recompose, represent and interpret classical national texts like Journey to the West in the form of animation from two aspects of the creation and inheritance of original texts. On the one hand, my adaptation interprets and expands the character setting of the protagonist Sun Wukong compared to the traditional image in Journey to the West, remolding an anti-hero image in a “civilian” age.
Main characters that the audience is meant to admire, like Aladdin and Jasmine, have Western features, lighter skin, and American accents, while nefarious or impoverished characters like Jafar and shopkeepers have beards, hooked noses, and thick, Middle Eastern accents.
