Lord Of The Flies: Nature Vs. Nurture

At the end of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, the children whose actions were chronicled in the book committed atrocities like murder and torture. Regular children somehow did things worse than anything that they ever could have imagined back at home. This begs the question of what prompted what once were normal children to snap: the circumstances or something that was inside of them all along. The answer in my mind isn’t as simple as one or the other. A winning combination of both spurred average boys into becoming killers, because without something dark being triggered in some of the boys, no one would have even thought about the horrible things that ended up happening.

Lord of the Flies by William Golding is a novel following a group of young schoolboys left to fend for themselves on a deserted island after a plane crash. Without any authorities to guide them, the boys soon learn to depend on one another for survival. The setting serves to develop the theme of pack mentality leading to dangerous situations as the group slowly starts to delve deeper into a twisted sense of unity. The novel begins with a "good" example of a community after Ralph is elected as the leader. While under his leadership, we see the camp flourish with safe housing and warm fires to prioritize safety.

Man Born Evil People argue that some men were born evil while others were born innocent. Society plays a big part on changing people to either be corrupt or civilized. Individuals who are corrupted and need society to keep them civilized is due to them facing a challenge that could have happened when they were born. Man is born evil and needs society to keep him civilized due to survival because they're fearful, mental issues since it changes their behavior and racism which teaches them hate.

nurture argument comes up. I do not think the primary cause of violence is biological or genetic, and I believe the vast majority of males do not commit violent acts because they are capable of controlling their base instincts. Men are not violent beasts, or at the very least, most of them are not. As far as I know, nearly everyone gets violent and intrusive thoughts once in awhile, but most people can control them, they do not act upon those thoughts. This is what separates us from the psychopaths and murderers.

Environmental factors in Lord of the Flies It is commonly questioned if violence is something humans biologically have or if it is due to their living situation and environment. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the boys present erratic and violent behavior because they are directly influenced by their merciless environment and the severe living situation on the island. The boy’s situation would be problematic for anyone to live in for a reasonable amount of time, due to factors like the lack of water, food, and shelter on the island. Towards the end of Lord of the Flies, the boys have become savage, and lost most, if not all, of their morality.

Lord Of The Flies As golding says “I suddenly saw how horrific people could be , as compared to the nice people I had known for the last five years.” Kohlberg is important to lord of the flies because his chart helps us understand what the boys are thinkings and how they morally stand throughout the book. They are far from the society , and they don’t have food and adult with them. With the story develop, some children became savage, evil and disorderly.

“A boy was born in this world with a heart of gold, but the way of the world made his heart turn cold” this is a quote take from the song by the band “Earth Wind and Fire” which is an excellent metaphor for talking about whether humans are born good or evil, to which one might say they are born good or they are born evil others will say they are neither. This brings up an interesting point, some people argue people are usually born neither as when you are born you have no perceived context of good or evil, and the environment on which you are raised will affect your morals and how you live your life, but some people may bring up the argument that out of all the people born in the world at least a small percentage must be born with evil intentions, this brings up an sizable dilemma that the book “Lord of The Fly’s” can answer. The book seems to allure to the answer to that question being evil as evidenced by the way the tribe changes from the beginning to the end, the changes of the two chiefs throughout the novel, and also even the world we live in today. The two tribes in the book lord of the flies is the main conflict of this book.

Lord of The Flies: Human Nature Are humans instinctively evil? Savage? In Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, young boys are left to organize themselves into a society to keep balance and peace on the island. When the society crumbles beneath their feet, one must ask these questions. The downfall and overall plot of the book is largely telling of human nature, and may be a smaller analogy for human nature in itself.

If we look into beginning events that make them into killers mostly only on serial killers and not organized crime. When a child is born it is the responsibility of parent and or guardian to take care of that child. There was a study on crows and professors, the professors wore masks and the masks were called the threatening masks as they had as negative impact towards the crows. then they had another mask that they called a carrying mask which they used to care for them and feed them as the crows would give gifts to the caring mask and attack the negative mask. This could be an example for an psychopathy and their relationship with their family or caretaker if there caretaker beat them then they would be more likely to hurt that individual and other individuals that reminded them of the supposed caretaker it 's a crappy example but it has some truth like the nature vs nurture

In Lord of the Flies, Ralph undergoes major character development. For example, in the beginning of the novel, Ralph innocently believs his father will come and rescue him. This shows how innocent and pure Raplh truly is. As time flies by, Ralph begins to become more serious. For instance, when a ship passes by without seeing them, Ralph becomes agitated that the others would let the fire burn out.

Chapter 2: A Social Psychological Approach to Interpersonal Aggression This chapter begins to describe what aggression is and the motives of aggression. The book opens up with, “a social psychological approach focuses on the situational factors that lead to aggression” (Van Hasselt & Hersen, pg. 9). Those situational factors include the current conditions instead of what happened in the past. There are many ways to understand the concept of aggression and it can be used in various ways.
