Matched takes place in the future where the modern day the United States used to be. In this society, people are matched with another person at the age of seventeen. Cassia thinks she is matched with her best friend, Xander, but she later finds out she might have a different match. This freaks Cassia out, considering the Society rarely makes mistakes, but even more weird she knows who the other guy is. Ky. Now Cassia is forced to choose between Xander and Ky. Futuristic setting is shown in two main quotes. “As the society reminds us, there 's a difference between knowledge and technology. Knowledge doesn’t fail us.”(Condie 31). This quote shows us they have a lot more knowledge than we do right now. In modern day we rely heavily on technology, and the society is saying they have learned from our mistakes and learned knowledge is more powerful and useful than technology.
One more quote that shows futuristic setting and proves the theme is on page 90. “At the end, the showing takes us back to how things were before the society. How things would be again if the society fell.”(Condie 90). This quote helps us to understand that it’s in the future, by saying there were many societies before theirs. Both of these examples of futuristic setting add to the theme by saying the society made everyone believe the past societies were failures, and the society has everybody
When Cassia sees a different face on her microcard she starts to question if her match is the right one. Although Cassia loves Xander she has been reunited with Ky Markham and is starting to fall in love with him instead of Xander, and now she is not sure what she is going to do. In this journal I will be predicting what happens to Cassia, connecting with her, and visualizing what happens in this book. I predict that Cassia will fall in love with Ky and choose him over Xander. One reason I think this is because she is spending so much time with Ky.
Whether it be reading, becoming involved in a hobby, taking a road trip or even riding a bike, he believes that our lives will become more interesting and distinctive. It doesn’t only affect us as individuals, but as a culture. For instance, “The old technologies lose their economic and cultural force. They become progress’s dead ends. It’s the new technologies that govern production and consumption, that guide people’s behavior and shape their perceptions.
The misuse of technology lead to a distinct society. As a result, the community became anti-social and judged Mr. Mead’s individualism and beliefs. Technology affected the people in the future so badly that they wouldn’t even go for a walk, they always drove. Furthermore, no one went outside at night.
This overarching theme of technology is seen in Fahrenheit 451, “The Pedestrian”, and “Harrison Bergeron”. Throughout these readings, Bradbury and Vonnegut convey that the dangers of technology are far greater than many people choose to accept; leading to a series of consequences that may not be reversible. Bradbury and Vonnegut warn about the dangers of no community and lack of emotion; leading society to eventually be pushed so far over the edge that there is no way to regain
From this we are able to understand that advanced technology is also able to twist people’s minds slowly as people relies more and more on technology and science to support their lives. In conclusion, people may have been using sciences and technologies to make our lives better. But as more and more of these technologies soak into our lives, we may not be aware of the changes happening around us. There Will Come Soft Rains also describe a world where humanity is destroyed by ourselves. If one day science could do so much for us and when
Technology is becoming a more significant influence in today's society as each day passes. People become more reliant on technology which can end up being bad. As technology advances, people make more advancements to make everyday tasks easier for people, which can lead to everyone being dependent on technology. In the texts “The Veldt” and “Cooking Time” the two authors Ray Bradbury and Anita Roy talk about technology advancements and the society it creates. Bradbury and Roy use the conventions of science fiction to critique society on how scientific advancements can be bad.
"I was not predicting the future, I was trying to prevent it" (Bradbury). The world illustrated in Fahrenheit 451 isn 't that far off from our own. Technology has become a very influential part of everyone 's lives, and has control over people’s actions and thoughts. Ray Bradbury uses the themes mass media, conformity vs. individuality, and censorship in his dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451, to capture a futuristic world in which books are illegal and technology is consuming society. Mass media is a significant theme throughout the book, Fahrenheit 451.
The theme off the story is successes of doing right and tragedy of doing wrong. The theme is oblivious after reading through the book. Wes Moore wrote in the introduction “our destinies can be determined by a single stumble down the wrong path, or a tentative step down the right one.” I believe this is what he is trying to teach us about humanity through his work. The book show both sides of humanity the dark side and when its at it best.
In this novel, Aldous Huxley wants to point out the danger that the development of the technology will bring. When I first read the novel, I was skeptical about the setting he made because I believe that there is no reason to vilify the science and technology since our current society benefits a lot from them. However, as I go through the novel, I realize that the science is not the point only. Through the advent of John, Huxley stresses importance of the literature. It is an important moment for me, as I understand why lots of people praise for this novel.
The novel has two themes displayed through the novel. One theme is to never give up. Another theme is when an individual is scared to do something they can overcome
The Crucible Literary Analysis The theme in a story is the concealed message that the author is trying to portray. The theme can be compared to a baby crying. Sometimes it is obvious as to why the baby is crying, but often times it is a mere thinking situation. The baby cannot tell you why it is crying or what he/she wants.

Science and technology are responsible for where the human race is today. Science is responsible for mankind’s creations like modern medicine and the ability to travel to space. Just as technology is responsible for the human race’s ability to have computers in the hands of mankind and to communicate with another person that is on the other side of the globe. Science and technology have become so intertwined with life that it seems impossible to live without it; though, the citizens of the City in Ayn Rand 's Anthem know how to do just that.
The message that too much technology is not good for people is the main theme of the story. Both the children and the parents experience effects from using the machines to do everything for them. Also, the children are so spoiled from unlimited technology that they can’t live without
The future is based on the present and the ideas, concepts, and reforms people decide to execute every day. Everything that is going to happen can be changed by things that happen now in other words nothing happens without a cause and an effect. These are concepts expressed in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and he refers to them multiple times throughout the story.
