These chapters show the drive of what an individual can have. For example, Chapter 11 shows the drive of gay wanting to fix the Model T car to get to Carmel Hill. In chapter 13, Mark, the boys, and Eddie find a carburetor to fix up the Model T car. In the world today, people need to have the drive of what these boys do to get the job done. In chapter 12, I found it interesting that on their way to find a new carburetor they find carrots, chicken, and all the others supplies to cook the chicken all at one place.

In the poem “Fury,” by Lucille Clifton, told a story about Lucille's mother who also wrote poetry even though she was uneducated. Her mother was asked to publish some of her poems in a book, but because of the arrow she live in (men were more dominant in society) Lucille's father would not let her publish her poems. In the poem it state “wife” by being an obedient wife, Lucille’s mother decided to sacrifice and give up the poems that she cherish so much by burning them in the furnace. Her “clutching hands, animal-like eyes, and her crying”, show how against she was to throwing away her work.

As the speaker eventually overcomes these obstacles, he begins to use words like “sprout,” and “bud,” alluding to new begins and bright futures.

A troubling family goes through many setbacks to hopefully unite the once full family the Lyddie once had. Clearly, the characters and plot guides examples to the overall meaning of the title, for these subjects base the conflict, leading the problems to become obvious. Thus, complexity and artistic value are unrelated to length, but rather, they are developed through masterful writing. “Good Times” by Lucille Clifton embodies the double-edged sword of complex storytelling within a short poem, as she identifies the speaker 's occasional good memories to develop an image of the speaker’s typical abject life. The short poem is crafted with patterns of repetition, for there are so few lines to fit meaningful insight into.

Family and Friendship are also main aspects of Taylor’s life, along with other main characters in the story, namely Jonah. As these are big themes of the characters lives, they become themes of the novel. The author of Jellicoe Road uses themes to build her characters. This is shown through not only plot but through language. Marchetta uses simple language techniques in a clever way that allows the most intricate characterisations.
