These words were said by another inmate working in slave labor to Elie Wiesel. In his memoir Night Wiesel discloses his account on the experience of Auschwitz and the Buchenwald concentration camps. Throughout the book, prisoners have to endure is this is from dehumanization separation from loved ones in famine the Holocaust and for their develop the meaning of survival for many victims like Ellie why so however with such tried to be positive lessons can we learn to educate to advocate for human rights.
In concentration camps survival meant thinking of only oneself and surrendering any family values or attachments. Unlike other prisoners, Wisel so kept caring about his father to the point of other inmates teasing him for giving his father some bread. “Listen to me kid don’t forget that you are in the concentration camp let me give you good advice stop giving your ration of bread and soup to your father” (110). In the article “Meet Elie Wiesel” includes his quote, “look, it’s important to bear witness. Important to tell your story... you cannot imagine what it meant spending a night of death among death”. The quote shows Wiesel’s acknowledgement of others around the world not experiencing what he has and making sure to speak out for one’s self. In addition in Wiesel’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, he states, “When human lives are endangered , when human dignity is in jeopardy national borders, and sensitivities become irrelevant”(118).The speech makes the point of citizens throughout the world caring for everyone else even if it does not directly impact tem or their daily life.
