Leonardo Da Vinci Research Paper

The Italian Renaissance was called the beginning of the modern age. The Renaissance was extraordinary for artists and scientist. Many artists erupted in the 14th century. Leonardo de Vinci was an artist and mathematics and that was just a few things he did. Michelangelo was an artist and a sculptor.

Artist, inventor, and original Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci, began painting his portrait of an Italian nobleman's wife in 1503 and completed it some years later, probably around 1507. The painting was originally a commissioned work, but da Vinci didn't sell it to the man who requested it (possibly because he hadn't finished it yet!). Instead, he kept it and still had it in his possession when he arrived in France at the court of King Francois I, around 1516. The French monarch eventually purchased "Mona Lisa" from da Vinci.

I was born on April 15th, 1452 near Vinci Italy and raised was raised by my father and my stepmothers. My father is Ser Piero, and my mother is Caterina who was a young peasant women. My father has been married four times and the first three weren't successful and for my mother she was only married once. My parents were never married and between them they had 17 children which were my step-siblings. At age 5 I was sent away by my father after staying with my mum for 5 years.

This is said to be Leonardo Da Vinci’s first major work because it is the first large painting, painted by Leonardo 's hands. The story of this painting is that Mary is being visited by archangel Gabriel, in order to explain to her that she was " destined to be the mother of the son of god"( cite) . Gabriel is kneeling at the garden of Mary. There is a distance between both of them and she ironically receives the news while sitting at a reading desk. " The angel holds a lily in his left hand, a symbol of Mary 's purity, his right hand is raised in greeting.

Born April 15th, 1452, in Vinci, Italy. His “last name” Di Vinci means “from Vinci” in Italian. He was born from Messer Piero and Caterina(Last name not known), Leonardo was born illegitimately, which means his parents were not married. He lived his first five years of life in Anchiano with his mother, then moved to Vinci to live with his Uncle, Francesco. He never lived with his father, for his father was a noble(rich general) , and had a family of his own without Leonardo and his mother.

Leonardo Da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci is one of important artist from the 16th century. He was born in 1452 5th of April in Vinci, north Italy. Leonardo’s dad, his name is Ser piero da Vinci he was a Florentine, and he was born out of wedlock to Caterina in barmaid. Leonardo died in May 2, 1519, place of death in Amboise, France. When Leonardo was five years old, he moved to live with father’s family in nearby vinci.

Leonardo da Vinci asked a question that was important to the art community: “Why shadows cast by bodies on white walls are blue at sunset?” Leonardo later discovered that shadows reflected colors at different angles. Leonardo stated, “‘The surface of any object receives the color of its object. Just because the sun’s light is red it is causing a shadow of the blue sky giving it the color on the white wall.’” Artists today use this important discovery in their paintings to make them as realistic as possible.

Renaissance During the Renaissance there was a quest for l’uomo universal. Michelangelo and/ or Leonardo da Vinci, (it has been argued) got as near to that goal as anyone. Discuss the meaning of this statement and using specific examples from one of these artists (not both) highlight what is meant by this. The context of where and when he was working is important, as are his peers.

Leonardo da Vinci was a man who “could not separate science from art… He did not distinguish between them; they were present simultaneously” (PUCEKOVIĆ 34). Before painting, he would make numerous sketches of perspective and observations in his notebook. He was a polymath who constantly sought to further his knowledge and understanding of the world around him.. ”The scientific achievements of Leonardo da Vinci… were virtually unknown during his lifetime and remained unknown for more than 2 centuries after his death” (Perloff).

The topic I chose to study is the work of da Vinci’s perspective, light, shadows, and color in painting. From my research, I learned how complex art actually is. In fact, Leonardo’s art (and the work of others) relies on geometry, mathematics, and theories of shading and color. There are plenty of theories and mathematical factors that need to be learned for an in-depth understanding. I do not know what motivated Leonardo to spend time as an artist, but I do know of some minor factors that contributed.

Leonardo painted a lot of religious scenes which were all a catholic outlook. Suchs paintings, like the “Baptism of Christ”, show Jesus being baptized. Multiple of his paintings have the lord and savior in them. The Last Supper is one of the most symbolic paintings

Also known as “The Cenacle,” this work measures about 15 by 29 feet and is the artist’s only surviving fresco. It depicts the Passover dinner during which Jesus Christ addresses the Apostles and says, “One of you shall betray me.” One of the painting’s stellar features is each Apostle’s distinct emotive expression and body language. Its composition, in which Jesus is centered among yet isolated from the Apostles, has influenced generations of painters. After leaving Milan in 1499 Da Vinci went to Florence and there he painted a series of portraits that included “La Gioconda,” a 21-by-31-inch work that’s best known today as “Mona Lisa.”

Although he is mostly famous for his artwork, Leonardo was also an architect, sculptor, inventor, engineer, musician and scientist. Da Vinci was born on the 5th of April, 1452, in Vinci, Tuscany. The name ‘da Vinci’ is Italian for ‘from Vinci’, making his name Leonardo from Vinci.
