The quote "A little water washes away this deed" is spoken by Lady Macbeth in Act II, Scene 2 of Shakespeare's play Macbeth. In this scene, Lady Macbeth and her husband have just committed regicide ( the act of killing a king or queen) by killing King Duncan while he slept in their castle. Lady Macbeth tries to comfort her husband, who is wracked with guilt and despair, by telling him that a little water will wash away the evidence of their crime. The quote is important because it highlights the wickedness of Lady Macbeth and her willingness to commit evil acts without remorse. She seems to believe that the act of washing their hands with water will absolve them of their crime, suggesting that she is either deluded or completely
Macbeth's greed can be seen when he kills King Duncan “though I heard a voice cry, sleep no more!”(Shakspeare 2.2.47) This shows Macbeth's greed for more power and his desire to do anything to become more powerful and benefit his own best interest. He is willing to Kill people who have done nothing to him and have been nothing but the kindest to him in order to better his position in power. This proves that all Macbeth cares about is himself. This connects to the claim that Macbeth is a greedy murderer.
Macbeth was skeptical about getting caught and was the consequences of potentially failing. Lady Macbeth told him to not worry and to stay true to their commitment to murdering King Duncan. After murdering King Duncan, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth both smeared the blood of King Duncan on his chamberlains,

After hearing and believing what the witches had to say, Lady Macbeth tries to convince Macbeth to kill king Duncan. However at first, Lady Macbeth tries to make Macbeth the king by handling the situation herself. She says to her husband,”This night’s great business into my dispatch, Which shall to all our nights and days to come Give solely sovereign sway and masterdom” (1.5.. What Lady Macbeth is saying to her husband is that she will take of the plans regarding Duncan, and then says that after that night, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth will be as happy as
This demonstrates that when Macbeth began to turn his back in order to cancel the plans to kill King Duncan, Lady Macbeth objected because she knew her husband was a kind person and she didn't like the idea that Macbeth wanted to cancel the plans and not be crowned King. In order for Macbeth to continue the plan, she stated that if Macbeth wants to live in this world as a coward and leave this wonderful opportunity, Of course, the manipulation forced Macbeth to reconsider whether he was a coward or not. Another example is the use of figurative language by Lady Macbeth in order for Macbeth to make the decision to kill King Duncan. Memory, the brain's warder, "shall be fume," and reason "A limbeck only," when in swinish sleep, "their drenched natures
First, we see her being controlled by her greed as the visions from the witches come through in scenes one and two. As this happens, we see her greed, as she mentions through the play over and over what the witches promise Macbeth, and how they need to make the visions come true. We also know this because when Macbeth is debating the murder of Duncan, Lady Macbeth forces him into it by telling him about how she is more masculine than him. We see this not only in her dialogue throughout the play, but also her actions. A good example of this is in scene two where she says “Give me the daggers.
She drugged their drinks so that they would fall asleep sooner. After they were asleep, Macbeth used their daggers to stab King Duncan, then placed the bloody daggers back with the grooms so that they would awake in the horror that they had killed their king. “The doors are open, and the surfeited grooms do mock their charge with snores. I have drugged their possets, that death and nature do not contend about them, whether they live or die.” (Shakespeare Act 2, Scene 2).
Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a rather bloody and demiseful tale. Although the characters of the play all have different emotions the main theme is based on greed and suffrage of one’s actions. The main character, Macbeth, is ridden with guilt and greed, while Lady MacBeth is very controlling and demanding. Macbeth's curiosity led to a great demise for both him and Lady Macbeth. Throughout the play, Macbeth’s actions are being controlled by the emotions of curiosity, guilt, and fear.
Her ambition pushed Macbeth to gain more power in life and over his wife. At the beginning of the story, Lady Macbeth talks down constantly towards Macbeth; she calls him “a coward” and continuously spews hatred towards Macbeth’s masculinity. This sparks Macbeth’s killing spree, as Lady Macbeth’s final question clung to him: “Who dares receive it other, / as we shall make our griefs and clamor roar / upon his death”(I.vii. 89-91)? After feeling empowered and supported in killing Duncan, Macbeth’s personal and selfish need for power grows enormously, which in turn means taking Lady Macbeth’s power away in their relationship.
but she planned to murder him, she says “When in swinish sleep Their drenched natures lies as in a death” (1.7.77-78). Her plan was to drug the guard’s with wine so they will pass out and then Macbeth could walk right passed them to king Duncan’s room to kill him. She also admits to the crime when she says “That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold” (2.2.1-2).
Greed is a very powerful emotion throughout the play. At first, Lady Macbeth is controlled by the emotion of greed. A quote that shows greed from Lady Macbeth is “Come, you spirits That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe, top-full Of direst cruelty” (Shakespeare
She progresses throughout the play from a seemingly atrocious and inconsiderate creature to a very fragile woman. In the beginning of the play, she is very assertive and athirst for power. For example, she pushes Macbeth to kill Duncan in order to fulfill the witches’ prophecies. Towards the end of the play, she seems to be a scared, and regretful woman that questions her and her husband’s quest for power. Overall, Lady Macbeth is a self-driven, ruthless, and resilient woman in Shakespeare’s play.
