The 7th grade Lady Hornets took a quick early lead, jumping out 11 - 2 in the first quarter. They continued their lead through the 2nd quarter outscoring Green 8 to 6, giving them a strong half-time lead at 19 - 8. Green won the battle to the boards pulling down 29 to Metcalfe’s 20. Metcalfe was led by Kassady London with 8. Braelyn Johnson and London led steals with 5 each to get 10 of the team’s 13. Scoring was led by Anna Blythe and Braelyn Johnson with 12 and 10 respectively. Metcalfe continued to control the game tempo in the second half outscoring them in the final minutes 10 - 6. Metcalfe hit 45% from the free throw line (5 of 11), compared to Green’s 0%, (0 of 7). When the final buzzer blew, Metcalfe was ahead 32 - 22.

The 8th graders knew the game would be close after a narrow win previously at Green Co. Metcalfe started out hot outscoring Green 12-2 in the 1st quarter and powering the ball to the hole. However, the 2nd quarter was all Green Co. outscoring Metcalfe 16 - 2. The half-time score showed Metcalfe down 14 - 23. Rebounding was in favor of Green Co. with them pulling down 36 to Metcalfe’s 25. Metcalfe gave up 15 points off second shots. Rebounding was led by Kailee White and Jaycie Harper with 7 each. Jaycie also led deflections with 11 and steals with 8. The second half was a defensive game with neither team putting many points on the board. Metcalfe edged Green by 1 point, but couldn’t get free throws to fall down the stretch. They hit 47%, only hitting 8 of 17 shot, while Green hit 43%, hitting 3 of 7. Without shots falling at the end, Metcalfe lost the game 29 - 39.

6th Grade Team Shows

A possible game-winning drive ended at the 17-yard line for host Pacific in a 28-24 loss to the University of Dubuque on Saturday at Hanson Field. The Spartans (2-0), who traveled 1,965 miles for the contest, rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit to come away with the win over the host Boxers. Facing a three-point deficit, 24-21, Dubuque quarterback Conor Feckly completed a 43-yard touchdown pass to Najee Toomer on a 4th and 12 play for the eventual game-winning touchdown. Twice, on the drive, the Boxers defense forced a fumble by Feckly but the Spartans came away with the loose ball to continue the drive. Pacific (0-2) scored 24 unanswered points in the second quarter to overcome an early 14-point deficit to the visitors from the Hawkeye state.

On February 25 the Titans and Wolfpack played a game of coed softball at the United High School baseball field. Both the Titans and Wolfpack ended the game with a tie going into three innings. Final score for both teams was 2-2. The Titans started the game by batting first.

Now, they were going to play University of Illinois, the school her sister Tauja was pursuing her basketball career at. Tamika never wanted to play against each other, her dream was to play with her sister in college.
