Ruby Mendoza 11-14-16 So far in the Odyssey Odysseus seems to be the most dangerous character for a couple of reasons. Staying on the island proves to be a mistake for many of his men were eaten by the cyclop. Odysseus sacrificed many of his men just to see this “ caveman”.

From the moment I was born I was special. The first of my father's children to not be devoured at first sight. To hide on far away from my father on the island of Crete, to be raised by Gaia, Adamanthea, and a goat named Amalthea. The first to stand up and defeat my father Cronos and the rest of the titans with my mighty lightning bolt forged by the Cyclops. Although the battle lasted for a long tremendous period of time we won and conquered the Earth and put the menacing titans where they belonged and where they could never escape.

However, the story of Odysseus is mainly interpreted as a tale of bravery and heroic actions. Odysseus is known for his bravery in taking on Troy, and fighting for ten years in the Trojan war, which he led his army to victory in.

The author outlines the developments of Greek literature throughout history, as well as the times and individuals of the era of their creation; she begins with Homer, the epic poem, and the traditional ideal of a hero. “The men who people the epic are heroes, and almost all are kings. Even in the Odyssey, where humbler people appear — the swineherd, the nurse, the beggar — these belong to the entourage of a prince” (17). De Romilly outlines the core belief that honor is achieved by the aristocracy through exploits upon the battlefield. However, The Odyssey does not focus on the heroism of the Trojan war; it deals in the aftermath.
With this being my first semester at Saint Mary’s and coming here as a transfer student I did not know what to make of Seminar at first. I understood seminar’s purpose to be a course that taught students about how to think critically and then how to share those thoughts in a constructive forum. This course challenges students to not only be able to think critically, but to also be able to express their thoughts to one another through both writing and discussion. The specific goal of seminar is to foster within students a “genuine sense of collegiality and intellectual community by providing an authentic forum for students to meet and… engage in collaborative dialogue about texts that shape our world” (Western Tradition, vii). Though I found

Odyssey itself denotes as journey full of adventures or a series of experience that give knowledge or understanding to someone. This denotation proves me, because when I watched the journey of Odysseus, it brings me knowledge and lesson to me. His story is full of adventure and romance that really caught my interest. I salute him because he went to Troy to fight although he needs to left his wife and new born son. He show his braveness and toughness when he won the Trojan war with the help of Gods.
Throughout many generations a book has been past down and read. This book contains the stories that people from ancient times and were past down through word of mouth. But thanks to the labor of many people before our times we can now enjoy these stories for years to come. The story begins with Odysseus who is a well aged man with shoulder length white withered hair and the body build of a person who had spent many years working on his physical appearance by the use of weights, his skin is also very sun worn but well toned from his body build.
The story of Odyssey is one of wonderful movie I’ve ever watched. Because the story is all about god’s and goddesses and about an adventure of Odysseus that not that just an adventure Odysseus made me admire him not only his good looking but also he’s brave, smart, tough and loving husband to his wife even though there’s a fans of women he encountered, Penelope will not be just ordinary girl for him. One thing I admire about him is how he handles the situation. I’m quite disappointed about him because he just knew how smart and good as a warrior he is acts arrogantly to the god of the sea, Poseidon. But then I still admire him even he done wrong doings, of course there’s no perfect creatures in this world.
