In the book A.D New Orleans After The Deluge, By Josh Neufeld is about Hurricane Katrina and how it affected the people of New Orleans. This book was about real people that escaped and lived through the storm. Most people lost everything including their houses, all personal belongings, and jobs. As I was reading the book was shocked that in the beginning most of the characters were not worried about the storm they just wanted to wait it out. No one was expecting such a big storm and thought it would turn east like they normally did.

Hurricane Hazel was the deadliest and costliest hurricane of the 1954 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm killed at least 400 people in Haiti before striking the United States near the border between North and South Carolina, as a Category 4 hurricane. After causing 95 fatalities in the US, Hazel struck Canada as an extratropical storm, raising the death toll by 81 people, mostly in Toronto. As a result of the high death toll and the damage caused by Hazel, its name was retired from use for North Atlantic hurricanes.

History surrounds us every day as the nature surrounding us as well as the people living on this land show us the power of knowledge. Epistemological studies are important to understanding the culture and land. Knowing the history of the land allows you to understand how previous generations had lived. Natasha Trethewey in her novel Beyond Katrina, uses poetry and prose to help us better understand what the Gulf Coast Communities were like. This is extremely important from a cultural perspective, but from an epistemological side it holds great value as well.

During that year, New Orleans and other areas in the gulf coast were struck by Hurricane Katrina; one of the biggest and most catastrophic hurricanes that impacted America. Many lives were lost and several were considered missing. As a result, the hurricane left numerous survivors stranded without any food, water, and shelter to resort to. Meanwhile other regions in west and south-south eastern nations were hit by massive earthquakes that left a high mass number of injured victims and numerous casualties.

It is about Ichabod Crane and how he loves Katrina Van Tassel and tries to win her love and how she has other suiters that want her. Sleepy hollow talks about how the town is different from most towns and about the Horseman. It talks about how Ichabod is a schoolteacher and how he is with his students.

Danny Glover once stated, “When Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf and the floodwaters rose and tore through New Orleans, it did not turn the region into a Third World country…it revealed one” (Glover). As the winds reached speeds of 100 to 140 miles per hour, water crashed against the levees, which in turn broke them, and flooded 80% of Louisiana. Hurricane Katrina’s peak was a category five, but disintegrated into a category three just before landfall. The third deadliest hurricane is what Hurricane Katrina achieved.

No one's imagination is more noticeable than that of Ichabod Crane. Ichabod Crane is tall, thin, awkward, and is characterized by his wild imagination. When he walked into Sleepy Hollow, was there a real Headless Horseman, did he imagine the whole thing, or did Brom Bones tricked him? We may not know, but Ichabod’s imagination renders him impotent and is extremely powerful. Ichabod’s imagination leads to his downfall in two ways.

Natural disasters, especially hurricanes, can have huge effects on cities and their citizens. On September 8, 1900, a horrible disaster struck Galveston, Texas. This was very unexpected for them and caused great damage. The Great Hurricane of the 1900s affected the area it hit socially, politically, and economically.

Dr.Cline began to become terrified of what the storm was becoming capable of and began warning Galveston residence. But it was too late, very few got out of the city in time. The wind blew the water out of Galveston bay and into the city itself. In effect, the storm 's trajectory made galveston the victim of two storm surges , the first in the bay, and the second from the Gulf. Many men and women began furiously chopping holes in their parlor floors to hopefully admit water and to anchor their homes in place.
