A plethora of children in the United States is being tried as an adult consequently, 3000 children nationwide are sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Children under the age of eighteen should not be tried as an adult in the interest of the physical and mental well-being of the child. Many questions should be asked by the court before considering trying a child as an adult. What was the nature and nurture of the accused child? Was the child being abused?

Every year in the United States, an estimated 250,000 children under the age of 18 are tried and imprisoned as adults. In fact, about 100,000 of these children end up in adult jails and prisons. Fourteen states in the U.S don’t even have a minimum age for trying children as adults. This topic has caused great debate all across the nation. While many people are in favor of trying children as adults, others are not very fond of the idea and strongly disagree.

Hence, when recently convicted minors leave jail or prison, they perpetrate more felonies along with misdemeanors. This is a substantial reason for augmenting rates of juvenile convictions. With recent studies taken in 2014 and also 2015 showing that children who are sentenced as adults are up three times more likely to perpetrate a violent crime after setting off from a penal institution. The idea is to cut the cost of incarcerate young offender in adult prison and ensure offenders to receive proper education and specialized care to change their behavior. Putting children in adult prison does not deter crime.

Sentencing juveniles to prison happens to be a very controversial topic today. Many people believe that juveniles should receive the same consequences as an adult criminal and a vast amount of people believe that juveniles should be given a second chance. I personally believe that a child should not be given the same consequences as an adult so the question I would like to pose to my audience is should juvenile offenders be offered the same consequences as adult offenders? Statistics show that across the nation at least 1,200 people are sentenced to life without parole for a crime they committed when they were under the age of 18. Majority of people will argue that this justified because if a child is given a second chance they will continue to commit crimes in the future.

When should juvenile offenders be tried as an adult This is important topic because juvenile that commit bad crimes such as rape, murders and robbery should be tried Juvenile offenders should be tried as an adult at the age of 14 teen years old. A child at 14 is old enough to know right from wrong, and if they commit a crime at the age of 14 then they should go thought a adult court and be tried as an adult .If you're a juvenile and you committed a serious enough crime you can be can be tried charged as an adult ."if

In our society, crimes are being committed not only by adults but by juveniles as well. By law as soon as a person turns 18 they are considered to be an adult. So what if an adult and a juvenile were to commit the same crime yet were sentenced differently simply based on the fact that one is a child and one is an adult? Juveniles are committing violent crimes just as adults and should be given the equal treatment and sentencing as adults receive. Juveniles aren’t completely ignorant as everyone seems to think.

Everything has its cost. It all boils down to how much one is willing to pay. From the 1980’s to the 1990’s juvenile offenses prompted state policymakers to expand laws to put juveniles in adult court. For obvious reasons, this is not sound. States are on average spending millions to incarcerate youth in adult prisons.

Juveniles should not be sentenced as adults because the brains of adolescents are not fully developed, they have not reached legal age to adult standards, and they are more willing to change their ways. Research has proven that the brain of an adolescent has not fully developed. Yes, children should be held accountable for their actions however, a teenagers brain can play

It has been found that three out of four juveniles who are detained by the courts, have a mental health issue, and of those 20 percent suffer from severe mental disorders that can impact their day to day lives. (The Mental Health) For any jail, prison, or detention center one of the major issues that needs to be addressed is mental and physical health issues and having the juvenile population within detention center have some form of these is a major issue. As a society it falls upon the community to protect and deal with these individuals in a manner that won’t restrict them from developing as individuals. By having them in these facilities it is having the opposite affect that is desired by this system.

Juvenile Justice Should juveniles get treated as adults that’s one of the biggest controversy in our nation now days, with many juveniles committing crimes that are inconceivable according to their age. Judges have the last word on how to treat this young people. Many people argue that “the teens that are under eighteen are only kids, they won’t count them as young adults, not until they commit crimes. And the bigger the crime, the more eager this people are to call them adults” (Lundstrom 87). This is why people can’t come to a decision as how these young people should be treated like.

“ A child’s mental abilities are not fully developed. He should not be punished in the same way as an adult.” Do you support juveniles getting convicted as an adult ? They are just kids and shouldn’t be in a place where it is dangerous and can scare a child life up for good. Kids mimick off of things they see in their life and the parents should be responsible for their behavior.

Most people tend to critique adults and Juveniles differently and similar depending on the subject that is being discussed. What happens when they commit a crime should they be treated equally or should one be given a break because they are less experienced. In a case on June 25, 2012 the subject, whether a juvenile should receive a life sentence arose in the Supreme court. This Conflict leads me to believe that Juveniles should receive the life sentence they truly deserve not based on their age or their status of their mentality, but it should be based on the damage that they caused. Some people give sympathy to the juveniles who were raised in tough neighborhoods and argue that some teenagers grew up with crime around them,

As there is no action without reaction, there shouldn’t be a crime without punishment afterwards. Even juveniles are subject to laws and are supposed to behave accordingly.
