Julius Caesar Villain Essay

Does his sense of patriotism really justify killing a friend and a major political leader? You may notice that Brutus isn't very sympathetic as he is defending what he did.     The dramatic character has a flaw. That flaw maybe one single word, but there can be many parts to that word. For Brutus there are many parts of his flaw that make him the dramatic character.

Brutus cares more about his country than he does his best friends life. Caesar was Brutus’s best friend and he recognized that his best friend was becoming power hungry and was too ambitious. Only a true tragic hero of Shakespearian era play could be able to recognize the fact that one of the people they love the most has become too ambitious and the only way to stop him is by putting him to death for the good of his country. Brutus is an honorable man.

Every Tragedy Has Its Hero Brutus was a man that possessed many positive qualities but also possessed many negatives traits too. He was a kind, intelligent, and noble person, but he was also overly trusting, easily manipulated, and not very good at getting people to follow his lead. These qualities are what makes Brutus a tragic hero. Everyone has flaws, and because of that everyone knows those flaws can lead to bad things. Brutus was a person with good intentions but also weaknesses, and these weaknesses led to his downfall.

In the greatness of ancient Rome, an evil act took place that destroyed the balance of power and changed the course of history. Even though some have praised Julius Caesar's assassination as a courageous attempt to protect the Republic, it is clear that it was a planned murderous act that called for legal consequences. Senators became irritated with Julius Caesar as he made changes and grew in power. On March 44 BCE, a group of conspirators assassinated Caesar within the Senate walls. The assassination of Julius Caesar was a determined act of violence that should be punished under the law, despite political motives and noble intentions.

In “The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar”, by William Shakespeare, Brutus stands as the hero. It is evident that Brutus is a hero because he did what was right for Rome and would do everything and anything for his city and the people. Brutus is considered a hero because he killed Caesar knowing it was ultimately the best action for Rome.

The Veiled Betrayal Although Julius Caesar is probably the Shakespearean play with the most obvious betrayal in the form of backstabbing, many of his other plays deal with that same theme. Most notably, a tale that epitomizes the treachery of a so-called friend is Othello. As with any tragedy, one character's double-crossing actions can destroy everything for those around them. In the case of Shakespeare’s Othello (1604), Iago, the supposed friend and trustworthy ensign to the eponymous character, betrayed everyone around him by putting up an honest facade while destroying Othello and Desdemona’s marriage. His deception cements him as one of literature’s most notorious villains.

“I found a city of brick and left it a city of marble”. These were the last words of the Roman Emperor Augustus before his death in 14 AD. More than a thousand years ago, the Roman Empire was a dominant civilization that left its mark in history for its military, political, and social institutions. The thriving empire emerged in 27 BC, while the fall occurred in 476 AD. During its height, Roman general Julius Caesar found another successor who would be even more extraordinary.

One example of why Brutus is not a villain is because he shows compassion towards others. This is portrayed when he spares Mark Antony after Caesar’s death even though the other conspirators wanted him to be killed right along side of Caesar. Julius Caesar was the Dictator of Rome in 42 BC who accomplished many things. Many people believed that he was a hero, but Julius Caesar was a very ambitious dictator and was more of a villain than a hero. Julius Caesar was a villain because he didn’t think first before doing something, he forced the Senate to name him dictator for life and he also was a glory hound and put his needs before the republic. To begin with, Julius Caesar was a was a glory hound and put his needs before the republic. Caesar used his power as dictator more towards his advantage instead of helping the people in Rome.

His catastrophe was killing his friend/Caesar for the right reasons, but the people he sided with to kill Caesar killed him for selfish reasons. Brutus also contains several other characteristics of a tragic hero. For example, Brutus possesses a hamartia. “Th’ abuse of greatness is when it disjoins/ Remorse from power; and, to speak truth of Caesar” (Shakespeare II.1.18-19). In this quote from the story, Brutus is saying that he believes Caesar would abuse the power of being crowned king.

Should we do the right thing even if it brings about our own demise? These are some captivating questions that the Tragedy of Julius Caesar addresses. Brutus was the protagonist and the tragic hero in the play; a noble man that wanted to do the right thing for the greater good of Rome. However he believed everyone was as good-hearted as him and was too trusting of his fellow conspirators who were only acting out of envy and spite. Shakespeare's intentions were to portray Brutus as the hero of the play.

Finally, the third reason that Brutus is a hero is because he process several heroic qualities and attributed unlike the other conspirators and characters in the play. Therefore, it is clear that despite different opinions regarding the character of Brutus he is the hero of Julius Caesar. Brutus believes that Rome should be run by a voting system and of group of senates instead of one man who holds all the power. When Brutus states “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.

People are more swayed by emotion than they are by facts. Marcus Junius Brutus projects the facts in his speech. Brutus keeps his speech short and to the point, while Marcus Antonius elaborates and takes his time creating a more emotional-based approach. Brutus’ speech doesn’t necessarily win over the people but keeps them in touch with the what and why’s of these events. Antony’s speech alters their emotions and perspectives creating a sense of sympathy between Antony and the people of Rome.

In the play “Julius Caesar,” by William Shakespeare there are many great, well structured scenes. My personal favorite scene in the entire play is when Julius Caesar’s life is taken from him. There was an entire plot as to how the conspirators wanted to end Caesar’s life. In the play, the conspirators were the Roman Senators which was led by Cassius, Decimus Brutus, and Marcus Brutus. Julius Caesar was stabbed violently to his death on the Ides of March (March 15) at the Capitol building without him having a clue of what's going on.
