A seemingly uncorrelated death of a child becomes an attack on two businesses that brought forth unwanted attention. It reveals how corporations can truly neglect their surroundings and the safety of citizens without remorse. In the quaint town of Woburn, Massachusetts, the death of Anne Anderson’s son due to leukemia quickly transformed from a personal tragedy to an extensive lawsuit. Anne Anderson approached Jan Schlichtmann, a personal injury lawyer, to tackle the case. From the beginning, Anne makes it clear that she does not want money, she simply wants an apology.

Butterflies Reflection In The Time of the Butterflies I am exposed to many different viewpoints. An important one being Minerva Mirabal. This novel takes me through the crazy lives of the Mirabal’s. This family is in a personal war against El Jefe Trujillo.

Some students tend to forget their teachers when they are done with school. Melissa Hoebee, a teacher who currently teaches in Southern Middle School, shares about her life in teaching and life experiences from her childhood to today. She chose to be a teacher because she wanted to help people learn in school. These life experiences and events before in her childhood helped her become the teacher she is today. Her greatest inspiration was her grandmother.

Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.

The article of Lisa J. McIntyre is about Hernando’s Washington case. Hernando Washington was arrested and charged with robbery, rape, and murder. The main argument of this article is figuring out should we blame Hernando for robbing, kidnapping, raping and murdering another human being? In other words, convincing ourselves about social imagination. From my understanding of social imagination, is what allows us to make connections between individuals and the societies in where we live in, furthermore, that there is an explanation and reasoning for people's actions.

The Mirabal sisters were revolutionaries who opposed the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo. During the revolution, they were given the code name “Las Mariposas”, or “the butterflies”. The term “mariposa” suits each sister in a different way. Patria, Dedé, Minerva, and Mate Mirabal each have their one reason to be compared to a butterfly. The nickname “mariposa” shows who the Mirabal sisters are; they transformed from domestic, innocent mothers and wives into brave, defiant martyrs for national freedom.

Lio is Minerva’s boyfriend, and is involved in the communist movement, and other things that go against the government. Because of this Minerva’s parents do not allow her to see or speak to him, but in spite of their rules, Minerva would secretly see and speak to him. Despite her hurt upon finding out that Lio has been making effort to speak to her and she was unaware this whole time, she tells her father how she feels, “ I don’t owe you a thing, you’ve lost my respect!” (Alvarez, 89) . Minerva is hurt by her father’s actions but refuses to let him talk down on her when he ultimately put this upon himself.

Minerva’s assertiveness affects her livelihood because she is deceived by Trujillo and now cannot practice her law degree. Trujillo’s unfair government forces Minerva to change her life plans, and she now must endure the punishment of finding a brand new way to make a living. Later, María Teresa again voices her very own thoughts in her diary as she describes her experience of living in a prison cell. She explains that “The fear is the worst part.

From the moment that the Dominican republic was free from Trujillo’s dictatorship, contrasting viewpoints have come up regarding the sacrifices of the Mirabal sisters. While some argue that the Mirabal sisters sacrifices were not beneficial and worthwhile to the revolution because it resulted in the orphaning of their children and three young lives were lost. Others argue that the Mirabal sisters sacrifices were effective for the revolution since it changed the future of their country. I deem the sisters sacrifices are justifiable because their sacrifices had an important purpose. Isn’t it true that Trujillo's was absolutely in power for 31 years however, because of the three young sisters his cruel regime ended.

It took just forty five days for United States citizens to acquiesce their rights to freedom and privacy for the sake of safety following the events of September 11, 2001. Forty five days is how long it took the United States Congress to pass a law that gave up the very concept of liberty upon which this country is founded. The morning sky was a brilliant shade of blue with not a cloud in sight in New York on that fateful day of September. That all changed at 8:45 AM when a Boeing 767 jet plane tore into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Eighteen minutes later, a second Boeing 767 bit into the sixtieth floor of the south tower.

The female characters are portrayed as independent, strong willed women that are full of determination to fulfill their dreams, who also defy stereotypes. Minerva is portrayed as a strong woman when she fulfills her dream of getting a form of higher education, which also goes against social norms in the Dominican Republic. She says, “I want to go to the university[...]I’ve always wanted to study law” (Alvarez 98). By attending the university, Minerva is completing her dream and going against female stereotypes. Another example of women being strong willed in the novel is when the Mirabal sisters fight and die for a cause they believed in.

The Cask of Amontillado Argumentative Essay Edgar Allen Poe is a famous writer who is well-known for his short stories. The Cask of Amontillado is one of Poe’s short stories which is about two men, Montresor and Fortunato. Fortunato did something to Montresor, the act is unknown, but it angered Montresor badly enough to make him feel the need to seek revenge. The story portrays Montresor’s long, drawn out plan to kill Fortunato. In the story, it is clear that he was set on killing Fortunato, because of his actions and emotions shown toward Fortunato.

A few days before Socrates’ execution, his friend Crito visits him in an attempt to persuade him to escape prison. He seemed to be plagued by the burden of strangers thinking that he valued his money more than the life of his friend, rather than the fact that Socrates refused his help. Socrates replies to Crito by asking him if they should care about the non-valuable popular opinions of the masses or the valuable opinions of a few good men? The excerpt from “Crito’s Dialogue” demonstrates Socrates telling Crito how he wished his claim that most people could do the greatest evil was true, because that would also mean, they could do the greatest good. He exclaims how much of a miracle this would be.
