Joseph Stalin's Animal Farm

One of Orwell 's goals in writing Animal Farm was to portray the Russian (or Bolshevik) Revolution of 1917 as one that resulted in a government more oppressive, totalitarian, and deadly than the one it overthrew. Many of the characters and events of Orwell 's novel parallel those of the Russian Revolution: In short, Manor Farm is a model of Russia, and old Major, Snowball, and Napoleon represent the dominant figures of the Russian Revolution. Mr. Jones is modeled on Tsar Nicholas II (1868-1918), the last Russian emperor. His rule (1894-1917) was marked by his insistence that he was the uncontestable ruler of the nation. During his reign, the Russian people experienced terrible poverty and upheaval, marked by the Bloody Sunday massacre in 1905 when unarmed protesters demanding social reforms were shot down by the army near Nicholas ' palace.

The pigs took away rights and lives of their own citizens as did the Soviet’s, which helps teach what the book was trying to show that when these political figures gain such power, that they should not use it to only their advantage but to everyone’s. This can be represented at the end of the book when Napoleon has a meeting with humans and starts to resemble the humans exactly. This is because Napoleon used his power for his own well-being like the humans and eventually resembled one. “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.” pg.124 The image of the pigs appearance is tarnished by the way the pig treated his citizen as did Stalin.

The book Animal Farm is an allegory which corresponds to the Russian Revolution. In the book, the animals take over the farm and run the humans off of the property. They are tired of being treated cruelly and decide to take things into their own matters. This is where “war” between animal and man start. The Russian Revolution had much in common with this but also has its differences.

In our class activity taking over our teacher, I saw unlikely leaders step up, followers who accepted the class ranks but were still hesitant rather than blindly accepting, and acknowledgment for our purge against communism. Unlike George Orwell's novel, Animal Farm, I feel our class worked extremely well together once we recognized as a group what we had to accomplish. Orwell made a resemblance of this book to the notorious communist Soviet Union. In the book, Napoleon and Snowball, the two dictators over the helpless farm, resembled Stalin and Trotsky from the Soviet Union’s dominant history. A difference in our functioning class and Stalin's regime was understanding.

The pigs became selfish and violent, changing the animal 's view until it was almost completely different from the original. A very similar thing happened with communism, during Joseph Stalin 's rule he left a majority of the country helpless and to fend for themselves. He would sentence people to death for showing the smallest bit of resistance against his newly formed

A book that I have read that I feel should be required for everyone on the planet to read would be Animal Farm. This book should be read by everyone because not only does it contain an interesting storyline, the meaning behind the book also provides information that correlates with problems going on in our world today. Animal Farm discusses governmental topics throughout most of the book. As a result of reading this, you can obtain a better understanding of what is occurring in countries with communist and totalitarian governments. Animal Farm incorporates both communist and totalitarian governments into the plot.

The book Animal Farm, by George Orwell is an allegory to the Russian Revolution. There are direct correspondence within the characters and the situations. The animals in Animal Farm are contrasted to the people in the Russian Revolution. As well as the people, almost all of the events in the Russian Revolution were related to the events that happened in the book.

One dominant theme in animal farm is totalitarianism and abuse of power. Totalitarianism is defined as a political system in which the state possesses complete authority over the society and controls all aspects of public and private life whenever necessary. The author criticized totalitarianism and believed that it was inevitable in a communist system, as those put in charge will result in the abuse of their power. The theme Orwell intended to get across was that all totalitarian regimes are the same and those who hold power will do anything to maintain it. The conference marked the first meeting of the Big Three, Stalin, Churchill, and Roosevelt, who assembled to discuss allied strategy for the remainder of the war, which by that time pointed to victory in Europe within the next years. The Russian Revolution of 1905 was was a wave of difficulties that citizens were leaving under the leadership of Tsar Nicholas II. In Animal Farm Napoleon became totalitarian dictator of the farm with the idea that every animal was equal. Orwell states, “Somehow it seemed that the farm had grown richer without making the animals themselves any reacher except, of course, for the pigs and the dogs” (.....). This demonstrates that animals wanted a revolution where there was equal rights but Napoleon crowned himself emperor.

About a month later, 90,000 women and men supported and gathered with each other, which led with them swarming the Russian Capitol. In Animal Farm, the pigs overrule everyone and eat all the food they want while the other animals are struggling day by day which led to the animals fighting and rioting with each other.
