Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer was an American serial killer who murdered 17 men and boys with the majority of the murders occurring in Milwaukee Wisconsin. His murders were acts of necrophilia, dismemberment and cannibalism. In 1991 Dahmer’s had started killing one victim a week. It was not until Dahmer was unable master his 18th victim, Tracy Edwards, that he was caught It was then that Dahmer’s deadly secrets were found and led police to uncover the murders through pictures and trophies kept by Dahmer.
After picking up hitchhiker Steven Hicks, Dahmer lured the youth into his home and bludgeoned him with a dumbell (Mendoza 1). Unfortunately, this killing was the first of many. After a brief stint moving to San Antonio, Jeff was forced to move in to his grandmother’s house back in Milwaukee where the murders continued. Dahmer had developed a masterful technique for murder, where he would pick up a partner at local gay bars, bring them back to his grandmother’s apartment, and then proceed to assault and murder his victims, often in sexually perverse ways. One of the survivors of these attacks, recalls that he saw a mattress stained with dried blood and a knife with a blue plastic handle, which immediately let him know that something was wrong (Mathews and Stevens, 44).
In the following morning Dahmer woke up next to the dead corpse of Steven in bed. Dahmer packed him up in a suitcase and took him to his grandmother’s basement where he would have sexual relations with the corpse before dismembering it. He would dispose of the remains in the trash. After Dahmer’s second kill he would run into a killing spree that lasted 13 years. While in the killing spree it seemed as if he was targeting African American men that he would meet at gay meeting places.

He was known as the Milwaukee Cannibal for he committed rape, murder, and dismemberment of his victims. It’s seemed to believed he was antisocial and had many other mental illnesses. He also had a troubled youth with a bad home life. Dahmer was arrested and convicted for the violent crimes he commited.
On January 30, 1992, Jeffrey Dahmer was indicted on fifteen murder charges and his trial began. Even though the evidence against him was overwhelming, Jeffrey pleaded insanity as his defense due to the nature of his incredibly disturbing and uncontrollable impulses. Two weeks later, the court declared him sane and guilty on fifteen counts of murder. He was sentenced to fifteen life terms, for a total of nine hundred fifty-seven years in prison. In May of 1992, he entered a guilty plea for the murder of Steven Hicks, and received an additional life sentence.
After the second murder he began to kill sporadically, until he began killing one person every week until the summer of 1991. Reports showed that he began to developed rituals as he progressed, experimenting with chemical means of disposal and often consuming the flesh of his victims. Dahmer also attempted crude lobotomies, drilling into victims' skulls while they were still alive and injecting them with muriatic acid (biography.com). On July 22, 1991 Dahmer was finally arrested. During interrogation he admitted to murdering the 17 men, but plead not guilty and then eventually changed his plea to guilty by virtue of insanity.
The Jeffrey Dahmer Case Tried and convicted of murdering 16 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer was one of the most notorious serial killers of the 20th century. On July 22nd, 1991, a man by the name of Tracy Edwards led police to the apartment of Dahmer, which resulted in his arrest and later conviction. Jeffrey Dahmer was a 31 year old gay man who brutally murdered and dismembered 16 men and boys for his own sadistic pleasure. Once he was arrested, Jeffrey Dahmer was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder as well as psychotic disorder. When Dahmer was a young child he had what was called a “normal childhood”, however, as he got older he became very withdrawn and uncommunicative with society.
Jeffrey Dahmer’s behaviors were “primary unconscious feelings of hate that he had channeled into a sadistic programmed destruction of 17 young men” (Jentzen et al. 2). Jeffrey Dahmer's neglected childhood featuring abuse, loneliness and lack of quality interactions with his parents led him to becoming a murderer/sociopath which is shown thorough the social learning theory and social control theory. Dahmer’s story is interesting because once he was arrested, he explained how he was glad to finally be caught. Dahmer’s murders were out of compulsion, as a young boy he used to walk around the woods looking for dead animals that he would dissect, he was really interested in seeing what was inside of them. “Although he was rarely interested in anything,
Dahmer then drop out of Ohio State because of his drinking. His father made him enlist in the army, but he was kicked out due to alcoholism (“National Museum of Crime and Punishment”). After getting kicked out of the army, Dahmer went to a mental hospital in Florida to help him with his drinking problem. The help didn’t last for long, due to the fact that he couldn’t stop drinking and got kicked out. Dahmer was then sent home to live with his father.

As a child, Jeffrey was a pretty decent kid. One of the main sparks in his morbid acts were the blooming of his violent thoughts.
