Serial killers lack empathy, self-control, and ethics. This means that the person is aggressive, but controllable. Some develop fetishes and fantasies that have gotten so strong, that eventually they are acted on. They were taught to have no remorse. Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the most notorious serial killers in the United States. He was convicted of murdering seventeen men between 1978 and 1991. He was also known for sexual assault, dismemberment, necrophilia, and cannibalism. The main victims he targeted were men. He would go to gay bars, malls, and bus stops. He “lured them home with promises of money or sex, and gave them alcohol laced with drugs before strangling them to death. He would then engage in sex acts with the corpses before dismembering them and disposing of them, often keeping their skulls or genitals as souvenirs” (A&E Networks Television). He took photos of his victims at different stages of his murder process, so he could relive the experience. He was captured in 1991 and sentenced to 16 life terms. He was fascinated with the idea that he could turn his victims into “zombies.” He used the technique of drilling holes into their skulls and then injecting hydrochloric acid or boiling water into their brains. Neighbors later began to complain about strange noises and awful smells coming from his apartment. There was an incident where one of his victims was left unattended and even made it out onto the street, asking for help. However, Jeffrey returned and found him on the streets. When, the police were notified and went to area where the victim and Jeffrey were located, Jeffrey was successfully able to convince the police that the victim was his extremely intoxicated boyfriend.
