Fear causes people to do irrational things as proved in history. In the era of american immigration the nativist politicians were scared. In the era of progressivism the textile factory owners were scared. During the industrialization period it was the average worker who was scared, rather than the factory owner like in the immigration period. When americans forced the japanese-americans into internment camps, it was the american people that were scared. Fear affects everyone, and it leads people to do things that affect them and others as well, as shown with the nativist politicians, textile factory, average worker, and the american people. The american government did horrible things to the japanese-americans, such as locking them in internment camps, and forcing them out of their
government implemented a system of outsider confinement offices. They were desensitizing codes word for detainment facilities and filled them with around 120,000 Japanese-Americans, 66% of whom were American residents and about every one of whom wee never charged, attempted or sentenced any wrongdoing. At the time these facilities were considered a “security” measure, but looking back now we can see they were nothing but unjustified judgement caused by the fear of American people and military. “Even in the aftermath of a disaster as largest Pearl Harbor, Eleanor felt the guarantees of the Bill of Rights must be protected. Roosevelt did not agree.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor the United States was in an uproar. Americans were now in fear of Japanese spies and they placed their suspicions on ordinary Japanese American citizens. President Roosevelt was swayed into ordering Executive Order 9066. President Roosevelt was not justified in ordering Executive Order 9066 due to violation of constitutional rights, blatant racism, and long term negative consequences caused by the internment of Japanese American citizens in 1942. Franklin Roosevelt used poor judgement when he ordered Executive Order 9066 because of the racism behind this executive order.
The relocation of Japanese Americans was caused by the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was considered one of the most brutal violations of the American civil rights because many citizens were forced to relocate to a new place. Although President Roosevelt was a great President, there were some things that he needed to act on that caused him to overstep the bounds of his power as
Fear is an embedded gene that all living things possess. Fear, for many societal, has becomes the stepping stone to lay the pathway for each generation. Both attacks on Americans were unexpected and uncalled for. A collection of a few men took control of an entire country and everything that it was found on. Fear and hatred by a few of a multitude drove mass suspicion and paranoia across a nation.
Fear can lead to many things. It may lead to you making harsh decision and be very closed minded. But overall, our fear can blind society from the truth and keep them from getting justice. We see most of this in many cases. We mostly saw this occur in the book The crucible by Arthur Miller, the Central Park five and as well with McCarthyism.
The following events caused the tensions to raise between Japan and The United States of America which led up to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Internment of Japanese Americans. They are the Rape of Nanking and the sudden stop of U.S exports to Japan. In the 1930s Japan, had become very nationalistic, militaristic, and desired for more land to expand the population. So, Japan went to China and conquered Manchuria, Northern China, then most of China, and eventually Southeast Asia. This help Japan get out of its economic crisis but soon a very tragic and horrendous even took place.
Fear impacts people to take extreme measures and to act ludicrous. Fear is evident of townspeople accusing each other of witchcraft in Arthur Miller’s, The Crucible. It is evident John Proctor is fearing blackening his name for an act he did not commit. It also demonstrates Abigail Williams of fearing having a bad status in the
Fear is welcomed by experiences from an ugly confrontation or from trying to avoid a threat. It is usually considered as a response pertaining to something that terrorizes your security and safe being. Politically speaking when there is an dispute between America and some parts of the Middle Eastern countries the views Anti-Muslim rhetoric are opened. The information that politics use “may not only to identify the relevant group” (Sides p 589), but it is helpful to categorize and explain that particular group in terms of whether they are good or bad. This may push further on the public view of a group and attribute their attitudes of the issue.
The internment of Japanese Americans during WWII was not justified. After Pearl Harbor, many Americans were scared of the Japanese Americans because they could sabotage the U.S. military. To try and solve the fear President Franklin D Roosevelt told the army in Executive order 9066 to relocate all Japanese Americans living on the West Coast. They were relocated to detention centers in the desert. Many of them were in the detention centers for three years.
December 7th of 1941 America would face a horrific scene in their own homeland, the Japanese would attack Pearl Harbor with their Air Force not once but twice. That same day President John F. Kennedy would decide to place the Japanese Americans, living in the country at the time, in internment camps. The civilians would not have a clue what they would be put up against, now they would have to encounter various obstacles to make sure they would be able to survive. “The camps were prisons, with armed soldiers around the perimeters, barbed wire. and controls over every aspect of life”(Chang).
Japanese Internment (Executive Order 9066) Have you ever thought what happened back then, why war happened so much? Well there is one war there is one war I learned about, it’s the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This was mostly a between Japan and America. Also the united States not trusting the Japanese Americans and putting them into 10 different internment camps because of the bombing. Although Japanese Internment camps were caused by political, cultural, and economic factors, the most important causal factor was political.
Americans had rarely accepted outsiders as equals, and that was the case with immigrants coming to the U.S in the 1840s to the 1920s. A time in America where immigrants were not considered inferior to native white Americans did not exist. The hatred of anything non-American, especially with the coming of World War I in 1914, would only cause more Americans to despise immigrants. Part of this was rooted simply in racism, which existed towards groups other than African Americans, but much of it was simply that Americans considered themselves the chosen people while everyone else was below them. Thus, despite immigrants being accepted into America, those immigrants were still treated far worse than white citizens between the 1840s and 1920s, for the prejudice against them was obvious even in the laws created.
“Mary Tsukamoto once said ‘I knew it would leave a scar that would stay with me forever. At that moment my precious freedom was taken from me’” (Martin 54). The Betrayal. The attack on Pearl Harbor.
The fear caused by prejudice can turn some interactions into violent ones. By assuming the worst in people it can cause a person
People allow their prejudices to direct their decisions. We do it often nowadays. Immigrants, animals and also music .We have a prejudice man running for president who believes that Mexicans are here to cause trouble once they cross the border.this world is filled with prejudice. Immigration police often become police because of their hatred and prejudice against Immigrants .They have a strong drive ( desire) for it . After 9/11 Americans have looked to any human with middle eastern clothing or brown skin as a terrorist.
