Jackie Robinson's Accomplishments

Jackie was born January 31 1919 in Cario Georgia. Jackie Robinson 2 names Robison and jack Roosevelt Jackie Robinson was an all American baseball player. When Jackie Robinson was 1 his dad left and Jackie and his family moved to Pasadena California. ‘’Jackie Robinson, was an outstanding athlete he also attended muir technical high school he was starred in basketball, football and track. After graduating high school jack than joined the u.s. army and served 31 months.

"Clonk" went the baseball bat on April 15, 1947. Jackie Robinson was a famous baseball player. Robinson was the first African-American to play Major League baseball. He died on October 24, 1972 at the age of 53 of a heart-attack. It is about early life, beginning of care after death.

When we look back at Robinson's career, it was filled with several accolades, but the one that started it all of was the NL Rookie of the Year Award. This award is not only given to the best rookie in the League, but to the upcoming stars, who will be the faces of the majors for years to come. Various greats bagged the award such as Cal Ripken Jr, Derek Jeter, but Jackie’s was the most impressive because his award was the first rookie honor to be given out. Robinson knew all to well what it is like the one excluded from staying with his teammates on road trips and not being able to eat with them. Due to his personal experience he made a goal to try and speed up the integration process of expanding equality not only on the field but also with all aspects of life. After retiring Robinson continued to help with the Civil Rights by joining the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). In a speech to NAACP members, Robinson said, "Certainly if such revolutionary change can be brought about in baseball, it can also be brought about in education, in transportation, and any other area of our American life” (Jackie Robinson-Civil Rights Activist). Robinson has a valid point that it is silly to see that sports have easier times integrating race than everyday citizens do.

I chose to do my report on Jackie Robinson because I thought that he was very interesting and different. He was a baseball legend in my book. Jackie Robinson is important during this time because he inspired a generation of African Americans to question the doctrine and helped pave a way for the civil rights movement, made history in 1947 when he broke baseball’s color barrier to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers, and is a chronological order argument. Jackie Robinson overcame his struggles that he experienced in his life and still became one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Jackie Robinson was born in Cairo, Georgia on January 31, 1919. He was the youngest of five children. His mother’s name was Mollie and his father’s name was Jessie. His parents worked on a plantation in the fields.

An icon is a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something. This man was not only an Icon in baseball, but a civil rights leader, a father of three, and a role model for all young adults. Jackie Robinson was a small town boy who had big-time dreams. He was from a small city in Georgia and always had outstanding athletic abilities. Not only was Jackie a baseball player, but he also played a major role in breaking the color barrier.

The people who were against segregation and promoted civil rights helped to accomplish what we call today, an integrated society. During the Civil Rights Revolution, there were many prominent figures such as Jackie Robinson, the first major league baseball player who influenced the court’s decision to integrate society. Not only did Jackie Robinson play major league baseball, but he also ran track, played basketball and football. He played these college sports at UCLA, USC and Pasadena Junior College, which are predominately white colleges. Even though Robinson was black he was still desired on college teams because he possessed amazing talent.

Jackie Robinson is known to be one of the most influential people in baseball and in society. He eternally changed the aspect of American history. It was unusual to have a colored person be treated equally as a white person during the time of the 1900s. He was born in Cairo, Georgia in 1919 and later moved to Pasadena, California to pursue a better life. He came from a poor family of sharecroppers in the South and was the youngest of five.

October 23, 1945, Jackie Robinson shook hands with Branch Rickey, officially changing baseball and society, signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Robinson grew up in a poor household in Pasadena, California. He attended UCLA, making himself a four sport star athlete . Major league baseball had been segregated at the time, with the only black men playing in separate Negro Leagues. Branch Rickey, the owner of the Dodgers, wanted to break the color barrier.

Jackie Robinson was a game changer for all sports. He broke barriers in baseball allowing African Americans to play baseball. Jackie was hated at first but he didn't say anything and let his playing do the talking. Jackie didn't only change baseball he helped his community and the Civil Rights movement.

Jackie started a foundation called “The Jackie Robinson Foundation” to help members, “JRF is providing more than $1.4 million in scholarship support to 251 Jackie Robinson scholars”(Business Wire 2). Jackie wanted to give kids great educational opportunities so that they can go out and be successful. Jackie really wanted these kids to have the top of the line educations, “... Jackie Robinson scholars attend some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the United states”(Business Wire 2). Jackie gave these kids such good opportunities because he believed that these kids could make a difference in the world when they would grow up.

Jackie Robinson challenged white America’s societal perception of African American at the time. “Robinson won Rookie of the Year in 1947. In later seasons, more African-Americans joined other teams in the Major Leagues, as Robinson continued to excel. His success gained him fans from all over the country.” (Mcbirney 14).
