The murders of more than 7 backpackers in New South Wales (NSW, Australia during the 1990s, were committed by one of Australia's notorious serial killers, Ivan Milat. Ivan was born on the 27th December 1944 at Guildford, NSW, Australia into a large family. The bodied of seven missing young missing backpackers from different parts of the world were discovered in a shallow grave in the Belanglo State Forest. Five of the bodies that were found were foreign backpackers visiting Australia from Germany,3, and Britain,2. The other two victims were Australian travelers from Melbourne. Schmidl had vanished in January 1991. More than 300 police officers were involved in a search of the area where these five bodies were located took place on November 4. It soon became obvious to police that these killings were being done by a serial killer. While searching the area the police discovered another two skeletons and were able to identify the remains, a 21 year- old Gabor Kurt Neugebaurer and his 20 year - old girlfriend, Anja Susanne Habschied, were German tourists who had vanished two years prior to their discovery. It was clear that Habschied had been decapitated, the Police later revealed that all of Milat's victims had been killed by multiple stab wounds to various body parts.
