The murders of more than 7 backpackers in New South Wales (NSW, Australia during the 1990s, were committed by one of Australia's notorious serial killers, Ivan Milat. Ivan was born on the 27th December 1944 at Guildford, NSW, Australia into a large family. The bodied of seven missing young missing backpackers from different parts of the world were discovered in a shallow grave in the Belanglo State Forest. Five of the bodies that were found were foreign backpackers visiting Australia from Germany,3, and Britain,2. The other two victims were Australian travelers from Melbourne. Schmidl had vanished in January 1991. More than 300 police officers were involved in a search of the area where these five bodies were located took place on November 4. It soon became obvious to police that these killings were being done by a serial killer. While searching the area the police discovered another two skeletons and were able to identify the remains, a 21 year- old Gabor Kurt Neugebaurer and his 20 year - old girlfriend, Anja Susanne Habschied, were German tourists who had vanished two years prior to their discovery. It was clear that Habschied had been decapitated, the Police later revealed that all of Milat's victims had been killed by multiple stab wounds to various body parts. Between 1992-1993 Ivan managed to kill 7 people of which the police have convicted him of, but there has been said there was another possible 5 victims that he has supposedly murdered but he has not been convicted of. Ivan Milat was known as the “backpacker” murderer as he would pick up back packers from the sydney area Kings Cross and around that area. He would pick up hitchhikers that wanted to travel down south and he took advantage having them in the car alone with him.

The disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain has captured the Australian public on 17 August 1980 between eight and nine o’clock. It was claimed by her mother, Lindy Chamberlain, that during the family camping trip to Uluru, the nine weeks old Australian girl was attacked by a dingo in the Chamberlain’s tent and her body was never found. The evidence used in the first few inquests and trials included the bloodstains on Azaria’s jumpsuit, which was found near the camping ground and the supposed blood in the Chamberlain’s car. These evidence insinuated that Azaria’s death was a homicide and that Lindy Chamberlain was guilty of her daughter’s murder. She was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment.

His plan of murdering the victims differed from shooting, stabbing, strangling, and beating his victims.
