Ivan Milat: Serial Killers

Ivan Milat is known as the “backpacker” murderer and also Australia’s worst serial killer. Ivan Milat was known to the police prior to the murders he committed. Between 1992-1993 Ivan managed to kill 7 people of which the police have convicted him of, but there has been said there was another possible 5 victims that he has supposedly murdered but he has not been convicted of. Ivan Milat was known as the “backpacker” murderer as he would pick up back packers from the sydney area Kings Cross and around that area. He would pick up hitchhikers that wanted to travel down south and he took advantage having them in the car alone with him.

The defendants stated several days where Surratt was offshore working and only came home a few days in December "Detective Demourelle further testified that Surratt stated that he was home from work for two days at Thanksgiving and at Christmas and was offshore the rest of the time". Allegedly, Daniel Nations is a suspect in the murders of Abigail and Liberty. His resemblance and suspicion could be a big break in the case. The murderer is still out there and it’s very scary. Crime Summary Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, also known as “the Barbie and Ken Killers” were a seemingly normal couple that lived in Southern Ontario who committed a string of violent serial rapes/murders in their time together from December, 1990 - April, 1992. Victims of these crimes include Karla’s sister, Tammy Homolka (age 14), Leslie Mahaffy (age 14), and Kristen French (age 15). Paul Bernardo's crimes did not begin when he met Karla, pervious to their relationship he had committed 16 rapes and sexual assaults between May, 1984 and May, 1990, none of these assaults ended in murder, no victims died until Karla Homolka came into the picture. Paul Bernardo: Early Life Paul Bernardo’s early life likely helped shape who he became, it is said that Paul’s step father Kenneth Bernardo, who he believed to be his biological father until he was sixteen years of age was abusive to his mother and himself. In 1975 Kenneth was charged with child molestation and sexual assault of his daughter, Paul never seemed affected by his parents marriage and the withdrawn depressed state of his mother until he became aware of his mother previous infidelity, after which he referred to her as a “slob” and a “whore”.

Andrei Chikatilo: The Russian Ripper Andrei Chikatilo, also known as the Russian Ripper who went on a twelve year killing spree, was born in the village of Yablochnoye, U.S.S.R on the 16th of October, 1936. During this time in the Soviet Union, life was hard for the citizens who were struggling to acquire the essentials required for survival which led some residents to eventually turn to cannibalism. The compounded struggles of trying to survive with the aftermath of world war two would eventually have an impact on how Chikatilo carried out his brutal attacks (Jenkins, 2015). Although he experienced a rough upbringing, Chikatilo was highly educated, earning degrees in literature and engineering from Rostov University.

Herman Webster Mudgett was a man born in a wealthy family in Gilmanton, New Hampshire U.S.A on May 16 1861 and Died May 7 1896 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He graduated from medical school whereas he took his alias of Dr.Henry Howard Holmes and took a job in chicago as a pharmacist a well known terrible achievement of his is being one of America's first recorded serial murderers. His victims were usually his employees, lovers or even his hotel guests, some were locked in soundproof rooms filled with gas that let him asphyxiate them, Some were taken to the hanging chamber where Holmes would hang them and some were locked in a soundproof bank vault and left to suffocate. He was tried and charged for the murder of his accomplice Benjamin Pitzel and also was said to confess about committing 100+ murders but later changed the number to 27 he was sentenced to

The disappearance of Azaria Chamberlain has captured the Australian public on 17 August 1980 between eight and nine o’clock. It was claimed by her mother, Lindy Chamberlain, that during the family camping trip to Uluru, the nine weeks old Australian girl was attacked by a dingo in the Chamberlain’s tent and her body was never found. The evidence used in the first few inquests and trials included the bloodstains on Azaria’s jumpsuit, which was found near the camping ground and the supposed blood in the Chamberlain’s car. These evidence insinuated that Azaria’s death was a homicide and that Lindy Chamberlain was guilty of her daughter’s murder. She was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment.

Summary of the Crime Ivan Robert Marko Milat, otherwise known as the backpack murderer this was because his serial killings of backpackers. Milat was a serial killer from Australia the series of events spanned from 1989 which made him 45 years of age, until 1992. Milat was found guilty for the murders of seven individuals, robbery of Paul Onions, and false imprisonment. His plan of murdering the victims differed from shooting, stabbing, strangling, and beating his victims. A relative of Milat’s had spoken and reveled his plans to kill teenager David Auchterlonie a day before he allegedly murdered him.
