Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Adult
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is not one specific disease. It is a group of symptoms that occur together. IBS affects the organs responsible for digestion (gastrointestinal or GI tract).
To regulate how your GI tract works, your body sends signals back and forth between your intestines and your brain. If you have IBS, there may be a problem with these signals. As a result, your GI tract does not work the way it should. The intestines may become more sensitive and overreact. This is especially true when you eat certain foods or are under stress.
There are four types of IBS. These may be determined based on the consistency of your stool:
• IBS with diarrhea.
• IBS with constipation.
• Mixed IBS.
• Unsubtyped

The main symptom is abdominal pain or discomfort. Additional symptoms usually include one or more of the following:
• Diarrhea, constipation, or both.
• Abdominal swelling or bloating.
• Feeling full or sick after eating a small or regular-size meal.
• Frequent gas.
• Mucus in the stool.
• A feeling of having more stool left after a bowel movement.
Symptoms tend to come and go.
DIAGNOSIS
There is no specific test to diagnose IBS. Your health care provider will make a diagnosis based on a physical exam, medical history, and your symptoms. You may have other tests to rule out other conditions that may be causing your symptoms. These may include:
• Blood tests.
• X-rays.
• Endoscopy. This looks at your GI tract with a long, thin, flexible tube (endoscope).
TREATMENT
There is no cure for IBS, but treatment can help relieve symptoms. IBS treatment often includes:
• Changes to your diet, such as:
○ Eating more fiber. This may help with IBS.
○ Avoiding foods that cause symptoms.
○ Drinking more water.
○ Eating regular, medium-sized portioned meals.
• Medicines. These may

○ Medicine to help control muscle spasms in your GI tract (antispasmodic medicines).
○ Medicines to help with any mental health issues, such as anti-depressants or tranquilizers.
• Therapy.
○ Talk therapy may help with anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues that can make IBS symptoms worse.
• Stress reduction.
○ Managing your stress can help keep symptoms under control.
HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS
• Take medicines only as directed by your health care provider.
• Eat a healthy diet.
○ Avoid foods and drinks with added sugar.

○ Avoid any foods and drinks that make your symptoms worse. These may include dairy products and caffeinated or carbonated drinks.
○ Do not eat large meals.
○ Drink enough fluid to keep your urine clear or pale yellow.
• Exercise regularly. Ask your health care provider for recommendations of good activities for you.
• Keep all follow-up visits as directed by your health care provider. This is
Crohn 's is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease that belongs to a larger group of illnesses called inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is associated with inflammation of the digestive tract, or gastrointestinal (GI) tract, which runs from the mouth to the anus, and includes the stomach and intestines. It more commonly affects the end of the small intestine and the large intestine. Crohn 's disease symptoms and complications are unpredictable , you may experience almost no symptoms, then have a sudden flare-up. Or you could experience symptoms every day Crohn 's disease is difficult to diagnose, because symptoms vary and because it can be similar to other conditions.
Crohn's Disease Crohn’s Disease is a disease that causes inflammation in the small intestine. Millions of people all over the worldwide are suffering from Crohn’s Diseases. In 1932, Crohn’s Diseases was referred to as a medical illness and it was described by Dr. Crohn, Dr. Leon Ginzburg, and Dr. Gordon Oppenheimer. But it all started in 1913 by a physician named Kennedy Dalziel who had a meeting with the British Medical Association, and described his nine cases with patients who suffered from intestinal obstruction. One day with a close examination of the inflamed bowel of a patient, the transmural inflammation that is characteristic of the disease was clearly evident.
:- Distribution- Crohn’s disease affects the smaller as well as larger bowel whereas ulcerative affects only
This article was about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. This is relevant to our course because in order to treat diseases like this we need to know how the body works in order to create treatment plans such as the ones in this article. I know of a few different people who suffer from inflammatory bowel disease. It really is not as uncommon as I thought. Reading this article kept me interested since I know people who have it.
It eventually eats away at my intestine until it deteriorates. Sadly, when I first noticed I had Crohn's, it was too late for a portion of my intestine. When I entered the hospital I thought i just had severe stomach cramps, when I left I had about a foot less intestine. From that moment on, my future was all I could think of. I was honestly terrified for what was to come as an adult.
According to the Mayo Clinic staff (2014), chronic inflammation can create ulcers in the digestive system, located anywhere from the mouth to the anus, and also the genital area. Inflammation to the lining of the stomach, can lead to scars that can spread throughout the bowel wall completely. Mayo Clinic Staff (2014) state that Crohn’s causes the intestinal wall to become thickened as time goes by, which prevents food from digesting properly due to blockage making it hard for stools to pass by. Mucosa is what protects the stomach, by having Crohn’s, excess mucous is being produced which can make an individual feel as if they are always needing to go to the bathroom.
Intro: A boxers diet should consist of carbohydrates, protein, fats, and lots of water. Boxing is a high intensity sport which needs a large amount of energy. If these needs are not met, your body can very easily disperse all energy within minutes. With the act of holding your arms up, blocking heavy hits, and giving them but also giving 110% concentration, the 12 rounds of 3 minute bursts will easily allow most, if not all, of a person 's energy.
When I was first diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a common colon disease, I had no idea what it was. It wasn’t until several tests and explanations from multiple doctors that my parents and I started to understand the extent of the problem. Although it didn’t seem like it would be a big deal, it quickly took over my entire life. Dealing with the condition meant chronic pain, medication, and many more doctors’ visits. Fortunately, my case wasn’t too severe.
Depending on where the inflammation occurs within the large intestine UC is classified by how far the disease extends up the colon. Research has shown that genes, the environment, and an overactive immune response could play a role in causing UC unfortunately, the exact cause of the disease is not known. “Research sponsored by CCFA has led many scientists to believe that ulcerative colitis may be the result of an interaction of a virus or bacterial infection of the colon and your body’s natural immune system response”(Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, 2015). Although research has not be able to pinpoint the exact cause of Ulcerative Colitis it can actually occur in people of any age. Nonetheless, research has shown that it hoes have a higher occurrence rate in people between the ages of 15 and 30, who have family members with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and who are of Jewish

The Digestive System The digestive system is a system consisting of the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, the rectum and the anus. The functions of the digestive system are: • To break down food particles into molecules for digestion • To absorb into the bloodstream the small molecules produced by digestion • To eliminate un digested and unabsorbed foodstuffs and other waste products from the body The full digestive process begins at the mouth. The food enters the mouth and is chewed.
infections from H. pylori and E. coli), which can compromise gut health for up to three years; parasites, yeast, stress (acute & chronic); and environmental contaminants. Gut feelings Our gut communicates with all cells in the body, which means that disturbances in the gut can show up as disturbances in the brain (and vice versa). As a matter of fact, the brain actually kicks off digestion before the gut — we secrete acids and digestive enzymes before even swallowing the first bite of a meal!

DIARRHEA Definition and Overview Diarrhea is a medical condition where the patient has at least three loose or liquid bowel movements a day. It is one of the most common diseases experienced by any age group, and is especially common in children. The most significant complication of diarrhea is dehydration. Dehydration is a condition resulting from massive loss of body water and electrolytes. When diarrhea ensues, body fluid and electrolytes are eliminated by the body before they are adequately absorbed.
