Internal And External Conflict In Eragon

In “Seventh Grade” and “Melting Pot” these short stories, both have some time of internal and external conflict. Internal Conflict is when the conflict is happening inside of the main character’s head. External Conflict is when the problem happens between the main character and some force of nature. In both stories, there is a form of conflict or a problem.

As humans, we each face conflict in our everyday lives. Conflict is basically anything that happens that a person may disagree with, or not be happy with. Conflict could be something as little as losing your pencil, or something as horrible as the holocaust. For example, Anne Frank was forced into hiding at the age of 13. There was nothing that she could do about it, so she kept her thoughts on the positive side by writing in her diary once or twice a month, and hoping for the best.

In my story, “All The Stars Denied,” the first way my character’s traits cause conflicts is her stubbornness caused the texas ranger incident. For example, “ A ranger grabbed at me, and I punched him instinctively. Then I kicked him in the shin for good measure.” This shows her stubbornness caused the Texas ranger to grab at her. This conflict helps enhance the theme because some people don't have to go through this but some do.

However a few people around the world still realize the importance of choices. The list starts from Eleanor roosevelt all the way back to one of the three Greek tragedians, Sophocles. His play “Antigone” focuses on the consequences of a brave choice that the main character, Antigone, had made. This writer, who had lived in the earlier ages, is a great symbol of wisdom that people might have lost nowadays. Antigone’s choice itself had changed her whole life.

Internal and External Character Conflicts In Walk Two Moons “ I am not brave, I am not good “( 103 ). Throughout the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech , Sal faces conflicts that will allow her to grow as a person. Sal was in the middle of all the conflict. Sal, through meeting new characters mostly experienced internal conflict, but also saw some external when going on the adventure road trip with Gram and Gramps.

Conflict happens when a character experiences some type of fight or dispute. Conflict can be internal or external, and generally makes for a more interesting story and a much more enjoyable experience for the reader. It makes the reader want to figure out the way that things are solved. One example of conflict in the story is man versus fate. The man would be Mr. White and fate would be the consequences of the paw. This was a very big conflict because it lasted throughout the whole story. Man versus Machine is another way of conflict in the story.

In life, conflict is a natural sense of relations between two people. Conflict is always going to occur in life from seeing someone to meeting them. However, with conflict comes theme as they are interconnected. Among the conflicts is between two characters named Duncan and Roach in the novel Acceleration by Graham Mcnamee. The conflict Duncan has with himself also leads to a conflict with Roach.

“All conflict in literature is, in its simplest form, a struggle between good and evil.” - Anon. You may not realize this, however this quote is surprisingly true. An example of this can be found in the novel, “Before We Were Free” by Julia Alvarez, where the protagonist Anita, is living with her family in the Dominican Republic lead by El Jefe, the antagonist. Throughout the novel, several conflicts occur between Anita (and her family) and El Jefe.

Another moment in the book between Eragon and Saphira that shows how strong the power of friendship is after Eragon, Brom and Saphira escaped from Ra’Zac’s grasps. After being saved by a mysterious young man by the name of Murtaugh, Brom who was injured the most would most likely bleed to death but Eragon put a spell on him with the help of Saphira to heal him but only the surface, As her mind joined his, new strength infused his body. Eragon drew upon their combined power… Saphira nodded. Together we can cast spells that are beyond either of us.

The novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a story about romance, conflict, partying, and death. Fitzgerald gives a very good perspective of what it was actually like during this time period. The conflicts portrayed in this story have an abundance to do with love and distrust. For two characters, named Tom Buchanan and George Wilson, most of their life consists of lies. Whether it is them committing the lie, or them being lied to.

Conflict can be described as the struggle between two opposing forces, whether the forces being person vs person, person vs self or person vs society. Good examples of conflict can be found in almost any book. Margaret Atwood’s novel, the Handmaid’s Tale is a source of all three types of conflicts. The Handmaid’s Tale is about a society where females are given specific duties and are restricted from reading, writing, talking to others and looking at themselves in mirrors. The protagonist, Offred whom is also the narrator in the novel faces conflicts with herself, with other people, and the society that she lives in.

Conflict is the essence of any literary fiction. The main goal of an author is to tell a story that keeps the reader interested. At the story’s core, conflict is the momentum of happening and change and is crucial on all levels for delivering information and building characterization as well as building the story itself.   Conflict is the source of change that engages a reader and keeps them interested. In a story, conflict and action does what description and telling of feelings and situations do not.

At the same time, nature as a teacher teaches man to accept all the changes in life. It also motivates man. In the world of literature nature plays a very role to set the mood of the text. The creative artist uses nature to reveal both comic and tragic aspects of human life. Nature itself acts as one the most dominating characters in text which exercises its powerful impression upon the character.
