The late 19th century and early 20th century brought significant effects on U.S. society. Generally technological advancements were developing, and corporations were being established. At the beginning of this movement, America was benefitting well until these situations developed further. Overtime, Americans gave their opinions and formed unions, organizations, and even a party in these times. As a result, the Industrialization on America impacted The United States significantly.
With these new corporations, the prices reduced in the years of 1870-1899. These prices refer to the average price for goods and services during a given time. Fuel and light prices as shown in Document A, decreased. Most significantly, by 1899, fuel, lighting and

Document B explains the situations of these workplaces. David Wells explains the process of an assembly line and its negative impact. He supports his theory because he stated that the factory place began to lose individuality among the workers. For instance, these workers are only skilled on one task and are very limited. Also, Document F is an address given by Samuel Gompers. He mainly described the need for labor reforms. Workplaces were overcrowded and were in horrible conditions. As a result, many labor unions formed in support of the workers. They organized strikes and protest to ensure more benefits for the average worker. They were also against child labor. Gompers states that “men and women should have a better consideration than inanimate and dormant things.” He’s basically saying that these workers should be cared for as humans. During this time, the Triangle Shirtwaist factory occurred where hundreds of workers were trapped and locked into a room, which resulted in many deaths. Also he calls for reduction of hours of labor to eliminate potential dangers. Lastly, because they’re such hard workers he demands more recognition and a better wage to support their …show more content…
As a result, many people decided the Populist Party to advocate for the people’s needs. Document E describes this parties platform about what the government refers as the “the plain people.” They advocated for higher wages, a reduction of working hours, and a great expansion of the government in policies regarding railroads. This excerpt states “to correct these evils” to imply that the party will meet the needs of the citizens to fix all corruption, especially in corporations. It also states that their goals include an end to injustice, and
With Industrialization, our civilization improved agriculture techniques, medical procedures, and the steam engine which enhanced lives. People had more food to eat and we're living longer. The steam engine brought faster travel and machines to take over manual labor. But these advances came with a price. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because there were more comforts and conveniences as well as a greater output of goods, it was actually a negative thing for society.
He made their lives better than they were by providing them education, feeding them a sufficient amount food, and kept clothes on their back. Out of the nearly 3,000 children employed in the mills from 1785 to 1797 there were only 14 deaths.. Unfortunately most factory owners were not that kind back then and were extremely abusive and when the Industrial Revolution came around the
One positive attribute that came from Industrialization was that it provided better financial opportunities. Masses of different types of mills and factories started to show up like Flax Mills and Cotton Factories. These factories had many demands such as workers. Most of them had bad effects such as health conditions, but there were many other factories, such as the textile factory in Document 3 where it was stated that “Soon the production of exports outpaced the import of goods” (Document 3). This made most companies in England very wealthy compared to other countries like France because they could sell more than they bought.
With the rise of industrialization occurring during the late 19th century the conditions for laborers in any industry affected by this revolution worsened due to the demand for ever increasing efficiency. Industrialization occurring at the end of the 19th century created a degrading work environment that led laborers to unionize and demand the opposite. Along with better machinery that came with the industrial revolution, management practices also became more efficient. Due to the introduction of better machinery, the need for craft workers decreased by a margin and the need for workers without such skills increased by a larger margin (MindTap, 3.3). With the mixture of an echelon system of management and unskilled labor conflict arose and
What would the world be like if it was not industrialized? Between 1700-1900 industrialization had propelled Europe and the United States forward. Economic systems changed governments and helped societies succeed. Utopian ideas and industrialization led to progress in social life and influenced governments from the late 1700s early 1900s through progressive capitalism, new socialist ideas, and unproductive communism. Progressive capitalism changed the world.
The Grange, for instance, successfully convinced some state legislatures to pass laws that set maximum rates for freight shipment. The Populist Party, which evolved from the Farmers’ Alliance, was more politically involved. It requested an expansion of the power of government so as to allow subtreasury, direct election of senators, a graduated income tax, etc. (Doc F) Some radicals even started to adopt Marxism as an alternative to the
Between 1800 and 1890 we will see a massive explosion of industrial expansion in Europe and especially in Britain. This explosion is called the industrial revolution and would have massive implications on the rest of history that reverberates today. This industrial revolution would be fueled by the competitiveness between nations and one of the biggest driving forces was Britain. Britain would have a monopoly over the industrialized market of the world for many decades. This is because of Britain’s head start on industrializing with the first steam Engine being invented in England in the early 18th century.
In the late 1800’s to the 1920’s the United States made a positive impact by improving the country by creating jobs and better products to live easier. Industrialization had a positive impact on the United States society because without it today we wouldn't have the things we use each day to have an interesting life. The Industrial Revolution created jobs for many American citizens. Over the next couple years the United States grew its population by offering this opportunity to all kinds of immigrants that came here to the United States with their families. For example one reason why the Industrial Revolution had a positive impact on the U.S society was steel (entry 3).
Before the late 1700s, Europe and America were chiefly agrarian rural societies. Most people had small workshops or worked out of their homes in what was called a cottage industry. Innovations such as the Water Frame, Spinning Jenny, and Steam Engine revolutionized the textile industry and culminated in a boost to the economy. These inventions sparked the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in England, and the new technology propelled the country's shift to a manufacturing and urban society. Eventually, the revolution spread to other countries.
Populism was just really a rural movement. On the other hand, progressivism focused on urban problems for example poor
Throughout the novel, the audience learns how often socially unjust acts are committed in this industry. For instance, the government inspector who checks slaughtered pigs for signs of tuberculosis often does not check several carcasses. These are extremely disturbing facts that the public is just now hearing of. The novel also shows how the lack of sanitation in factories lead to diseases in the product as well as its workers. These truly shows how corrupt the factory owners are.
During the age of Industrial, many immigrants were used to maintain the balance of the world. Because many immigrants didn’t know English, the life of America was hard for them. Many of the immigrants were able to get jobs, but work was everything for them. Many of the immigrants were put in tenement housing, used to mass produce, and helped one person monopoly the country. Because of these things, the success of the Industrial Revolution was not worth the cost.
There have been countless amounts of arguments about whether the Industrial Revolution had a negative or positive effect on society. I believe there isn’t a correct answer for this topic because they both equally maintain a suitable amount of evidence to support their differences. There have been numerous conversations about this subject. Most of the main concerns argued negatively, that child labor, unsafe work/ living conditions, and separation of families damaged the society of The Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution had a positive and negative effect on society.
About one hundred thousand workers from six hundred different mills were on strike there. The strikers wanted their work cut from sixty to fifty-five hours. About a sixth of the strikers were children under sixteen.” ( 5, Josephson). As a result, she gathered a large group of mill children and their parents, shaming the mill owners of their actions.
In the nineteenth century there were plenty of factors and challenges the populist had to face. The Populist Party was also known as the People’s Party. Ignatius Donnelly played a major role in populism and was the one who made the party aware that the nation was in the verge of ruin. As the Populist tried to organize their party to become better and more aware there was many obstacles that faced citizens. There was that of the restoration of power and also the end of Reconstruction.
