Last semester was composed of a critical care lecture class and two clinical courses, which were mental health and community. I try my best to be open-minded and willing to make every new experience a learning opportunity. For my community clinical we were placed at an assisted living center. For our first few meetings I could tell that the group’s overall impression of our placement was not favorable. At first the feelings about our clinical were not spoken outright and could be seen as withdrawal. As we became more comfortable with our clinical instructor and each other, the group became more open with their feelings about the clinical experience. The overall consensus was that we felt like we could be of more use and in turn learn more in a different clinical setting. In short, we didn't like our placement and what opportunities it afforded us. When I took a step back to assess the situation, I understood that our negative feelings were stemming from our unfulfilled expectations. After reflecting on the cause of our feelings, I made the decision to try to turn it around. I realized that this situation really warranted the mindset that any experience could be one for learning. From then on out, I made an effort to seek out the positives and help others to see them too. My idea was that if I radiated optimism and positivity, my classmates …show more content…
According to Laschinger, Wong, Cummings & Grau (2014), resonant leaders are defined as leaders who are not only able to identify and control their own thought and feelings, but are able to influence the thoughts and feelings of others. Furthermore, the results from their study found that working with resonant leaders resulted in positive work environments and empowered followers. The goal that I had envisioned closely corresponded the outcomes that take place when there is resonant
Before conducting this research I hypothesized that physicians’ experiences could help improve health policy and health law. My hypothesis was based on the fact that physicians have first-hand experience with what is going on in the healthcare system and are the ones that have to carry out health laws and policies. So, by listening to the experiences of physicians, policymakers could gain insight on what is working, not working and what needs to be improved within the healthcare system. The question that this study focused on was what is the hospitalist experience with New York’s Family Health Care Decisions Act (2010) at the University of Rochester Medical Center? In regard to this Act I wanted to see how using hospitalists’ experiences could be used to improve the Act.
One of the most important actions that a student can take, is to be honest, and self-reflective, about the level of understanding achieved after completing any course within his/her education career. From my personal view, I feel that this class provided me with a great introduction to the MHA program, and is setting me up for successful in this educational program; but with that being said I would not pretend that I was able to assimilate every concept that was presented in this course, I would definitely need to continue to review the material in this course and on the MHA program overall, so that I could be a knowledgeable, and effective Health Care Manager. When it comes to my ability to discuss the different learning outcomes, I have to say that I definitely acquired a much deeper understanding of the material presented in this course. The materials were not difficult concepts to understand, but sometimes the way the material was delivered made it a difficult task just to read through the information, but as I would imagine, we are trying to achieve an education at a much higher level, which requires the processing and understanding of much more complex information, that sometimes will be
I believe my relationship with the agencies I have worked with has remained positive, and I believe my relationship with my practicum instructors has been satisfactory. Overall, I rate my practicum experience as exceeding my expectations. When entering my field work placement this year, I was hoping to receive the experience of working in an inpatient setting that would prepare me for my future as a social worker. I was expecting to learn more about the resources available in the Sacramento area in order to provide them to my clients in the
Background: Describe a nursing situation you encountered this week. Today we attended clinical for second time. Our main focus was patient with COPD or any gas exchange difficulty. We assessed the patients with gas exchange problems.
On this day October 24th, 2016 many events happened at Jessie Trice Community Health Center (JTCHC). As usual, I was exactly on time to start my clinical rotation at 8 am. My rounds were made in the clinic looking for something out of place and improvise with my assistance. A morning huddle was hold at the nursing station. Everyone met to listen to the points Joel Polanco, RN would present.
Fortunately, together we decided to alternate our responsibilities in the outreaches so I was able to be more comfortable in the future outreaches. I grew as a leader and I stop fearing and feeling anxious. As mentioned before our different personalities and the Peer Leader program helped me be more courageous and open to
The professional nursing values I believe are things you can be taught and some you cannot. Nurses are special individuals who ultimately want to care for and help others as much as they can. I agree with all of these values and believe some I will need to work on myself such as competence, illness prevention and patient education. Others I believe I have based on my experience I have already had while caring for others. Some of the qualities I believe I have include: caring, compassion, dependability, empathy, focusing on the patient- defining quality of life, having a holistic patient centered care, kindness, openness to learning, respect for others their dignity and worth and sensitivity.
During my course with NSCC, where I am studying to become a Continuing Care Assistant. Each student is required to work in a continuing care facility alongside other health care providers for a month. I attended skills development placement at Harbour View Lodge located in Sheet Harbour. This placement has given me the opportunity to apply my knowledge, and skills that I have studied and practiced in the classroom. When entering the facility the first week I felt nervous and excited at the same time.
The thing I did best today, was, communicating with my patient, and doing his physical assessment. My clinical rotation this quarter for Galen College of Nursing ,is at the VA medical center, in Louisville Ky. The VA medical center is a govt hospital for the veterans.
This week I had the opportunity to spend some time in both the OR and Endoscopy unit. Going into the practice days I was excited and optimistic about what I was going to take away from the experience, as I considered my possible future in working in the operative setting. However, by the second day of practice, I realized that I wasn’t overly excited about either of the units and that the expectations I had set out, didn’t quite match up like I had hoped. Even though I don’t feel as though nursing in either of the units is for me, I was able to take away new knowledge that I believe has enhanced my overall nursing practice.
PATIENT CARE EXPERIENCE AND PARTNERING IN CARE Name of Student Institution Affiliation Patient care experience and Partnering in care Health care is continuously evolving with improvements in cures and medical equipments. Nevertheless, this does not transform into better health care delivery. To ensure proper and satisfactory services in the health care industry, it is important to focus on patient care experience and partner in care along with the families. We discuss this approach and its benefits, especially for the elderly like Mr. Taylor and how it helps them overcome the barriers they face for healthcare delivery.
I would like to address the barriers and situation that occurred during the first week of my clinical rotation at Allina United. I understand that my lack of professionalism during the first few days have put my successful completion and graduation of the post baccalaureate nursing program in jeopardy. I would like to make a formal apology to the College of St. Scholastica faculty, my peers and the staff at United Hospital. I recognize and understand that all students face difficult life situations during their academic career but all situations are different and mine is both uncommon and has proven to be a significant barrier to my success.
This clinical experience has really helped me to sharpen my communication skills and realize just how important it is to understand mental health. We are told multiple times in class that mental health issues can be seen on any floor and that is the truth. I’ve seen patients in my older adult clinical on the pulmonary floor suffer from issues that range from anxiety to bipolar disorder and depression. Being able to understand how to approach people that suffer from these types of illnesses, allows us, the nurses, to give the patient the best care that we can. It helps to build a trusting relationship and get to know them on a personal level.
Clinical Nursing I Orientation. Today since I woke up I was nervous, anxious and you could say that even scared, but as I learn from my last experience with Fundamental class this kind of emotion of being little scary is normal because nobody knows what the day can bring to us. Also I felt pride and joy because I am proud of where I’ve come so far as being an immigrant who came to this country as many others looking for their dream without knowing the language or even the culture. All my classmates and I were looking forward to meet our instructor because since we started the classes we felt somewhat lost by not having clearly defined our situation with classes and teachers.
I can consider my professional development experience in two parts: Before I became a teacher and after I became a teacher. During my teacher education at university I used to imagine myself as the teacher of that lesson and I used to try to draw some tips for my future job. I observed my teachers’ way of teaching, their rapport with students and their reactions. I always commented on why or why not they behave in that specific way and search for examples to be applied in my future job as a teacher. I believe that these observations provided me with some valuable and conclusive clues for my job.
